The best experience I've ever had at any dentist! From the receptionist, hygienist to the doctor. They were amazing!

The amount of food places I review probably gives an indication why the only non-food place I'd review would be a dentist. My teeth and I have a very close relationship. These folks are great. Everyone's super friendly and super enthusiastic about your teeth. That's a breed of enthusiasm you don't find often. It's definitely not one of my favorite activities to have someone poking my gums with needles, but when they do everything to put you at ease about it, it's not so bad. I find myself sometimes almost falling asleep while they work, which is definitely counter to every animal instinct. The enthusiasm extends to Dr. Hsu, who is just super stoked to talk about care regimes. He takes the time to answer your questions, give you suggestions and explain everything. People who are excited about their work are nice to be around, and so I enjoy talking to him. Just a great place all around. They need to fix their intercom, though. It's been just raw blasts of static for years now. read more

Recently joined this practice as a patient and this is probably the best experience I have had at a dental office. Dr. Hsu and the dental hygienist I worked with were very thorough, gentle, and took the time to discuss my oral health/go through my scans with me. We discussed areas of improvement and I got the overall sense that they do not push/recommend procedures/interventions unless truly necessary. I felt well-informed of my oral health at the end of the visit and equipped with strategies to improve. It was a delightful experience overall. Highly recommend this dental office and doctor Hsu! It has been about two years I go to this office for my dental treatment and I don't regret a second or a penny I have spent there. I've been going to Suffolk for two years and I figured after I almost fell asleep getting my teeth cleaned (they are that gentle) it was time to finally leave a review. Everyone in there is friendly and the women who run the front desk area are amazing and will go out of their way to answer your call after hours if you've had surgery. My hygienist uses a high-powered water scraper instead of a metal scraper on my teeth which means no bleeding gums or swelling. The lead Dentist also takes a more holistic approach instead of recommending excess procedures which is refreshing. The entrance of the building isn't an ideal spot as there's a lot of riffraff in the area but don't let that deter you. I recommend them to everyone who is looking for a dentist. read more

I finally found a dental practice with a peace a mind. All the staff here are competent and respectful. Only thing I didn't like is there sign in, you have to be buzzed in and it's in the busiest place of Boston. The front staff does not pressure you to have any procedure done until you are 100% positive. Dr.Chen is very informative and their front staff always provides a friendly smile. I had my root canal and crown done by advance quincy dental in Quincy,MA which cost thousands for the procedure.. only to find out it was done incorrectly! The staff at Suffolk Dental contacted the Quincy office themselves to figure out what happened. My mind was on ease knowing they took care of this from the beginning to the end! They also text and reply back with confirmations and cancellation. I have no doubt this will be my dental practice, I will refer people to this location! read more

You know I have had pretty good luck with my teeth despite the four years of braces, headgear, etc. that I suffered through in my adolescence. I have never had a cavity, no gum disease, no chronic halitosis, but I was still nervous when I went to see Dr. Hsu after 2 years of no dental appointments. Well, let me tell you I used to HATE having my teeth cleaned, but the dental assistants at Dr. Hsu's office are not only efficient and thorough, but really super nice and Dr. Hsu is great too! I grind my teeth and instead of pressuring me into immediately buying a pricey night guard he taught me a series of exercises to train my jaw not to grind. They work!!! Furthermore, I don't have dental insurance and my cleaning with a full set of x-rays only ran me $115...and they gave me a bunch of goodies when I left too! All in all, if you need to see a dentist, this is a great option. Affordable, professional, super clean and very convenient! read more

Let me just start off by saying that I hate the dentist. I hate people's hands in my mouth, I hate foreign dental utensils in my mouth, I hate being chastised for not flossing, I hate responding to questions when my mouth being held open; there's essentially nothing enjoyable about the experience. In fact, I put off going to the dentist for 5 years (I'm sorry if that's gross, but that's how much I hate the dentist). Now that we've gotten that out of the way, I have to say that Suffolk Dental Group creates the most pleasant experience possible for going to the dentist. The office is clean and they open a brand new set of dental tools in front of you. On my fist visit, the dental hygienist put my fears at ease and she actual explained to me her process. In fact, all of the staff is knowledgeable and review your x-rays with you so you actually get a sense of what's going on instead of being reprimanded for not using mouth wash every morning. Dr. Hsu is great, and makes sure to check in with every patient at the end of their cleanings. He's also not out to just get your money; I ended up with 2 cavities (cuz that's what happens when you don't go to the dentist for 5 years) and he advised that only one needed the actual filling. I will absolutely continue to come here and recommend this to anyone looking for a great dentist. read more

I was desperate to find a great dentist the first morning I woke up in Boston I had a developing abscess and was in pain, and boy did I strike gold finding dr Hsu and Ann his lovely sister on the reception who so kindly put me in that afternoon! I hate going to the dentist. When I sheepishly came in after a five-year absence, the Terri smiled and said "Well, you're here now, and that's all that counts!" That's a small part of why Dr. Hsu and his team are the very best dental office in Boston...they're very positive and supportive. They know you're more likely to come back twice a year if your experience is pain-free and non-judgmental. If you, like me, hate being scolded by gleaming-toothed dentists for not brushing eight times a day, then you'll love it here...they're real people. Dr. Hsu has extremely gentle hands, and he really knows how to talk to his clients--he uses his words as well as his hands. He explains everything he's doing before he does it, so it's really impossible to get antsy in his chair. The hygienists are knowledgeable, quick, and extremely friendly. And the office is always immaculate and temperature-controlled. They really seem to care about their clients' comfort, even to the point of putting vaseline on your lips to prevent chapping during a long procedure. They really go above and beyond. Yet again I am called upon to call shenanigans on all these five star reviews for a dentist. Was this a good dentist? Yes. Would I recommend him? Probably. Would this be a whole hearted jumping up and down review? Nope. First, the location is, for me, a major drawback. It is a scuzzy area even in the day. To get in you have to buzz. That should tell you everything. Then the actual area you get your teeth done seems old and quite unhygienic. In a town with tons of dentists in the best buildings in Boston..well. The reception area has an unimaginable mess of files and I didn't feel they were very helpful. No more than average. I had a filling done and I did not find it easy or exceptional. read more

I cant remember the last time I went to the Dentist, so I was embarrassed and apprehensive about making an appointment. The staff at Suffolk Dental Group were extremely helpful from the minute that they answered the phone, they communicated with both of my insurance carriers and explained to me what I would have to pay for and why. The hygienist who took care of me was very kind, she even put Vaseline on my mouth explaining that if my skin was dry it was possible that her gloves could irritate or cut me. After my cleaning was over, she took time to review my X-Rays, talk to me about my brushing habits and make a few recommendations on technique, mouthwash and the importance of flossing. Then Dr. Hsu came by reviewed my X-rays and patiently listened and addressed every question that I had about toothbrushes, whitening strips vs toothpaste and rinse, braces, peroxide and periodontal disease. The whole experience was great the office is conveniently located near my office and a T Station. If you are in the market for a new Dentist, give them a call. If you have no insurance and want to stay on top of your cleanings and see a Dentist give them a call. read more

I was visiting Boston and it was time for a teeth cleaning. I called my dentist in NYC and they didn't have appointments for weeks. So I found Suffolk Dental and they were able to fit me in the following day. They took Xrays and did a cleaning. I was so impressed with the way they handled everything. They said I had a surface cavity that didn't have to be filled (which I knew because my mother was a dental assistant). Most dentists would jump at the chance to fix it to get the money but Suffolk was correct and had my dental health as their main priority and not making money. I've gone here for about 5 years now. I love the staff there; they're friendly and personable. I've never been chastised for not flossing as much which is good because, you know, we all tell white lies when it comes to flossing. I went here over the summer and they were great. Service is amazing. They give you hot towels and chapstick and apply the chapstick while they are working on you! I really feel like they did a good and thorough job on my cleaning with minimal pain on my part. The only reason I'm not giving them five stars is because even with insurance (I have Delta Premiere), the copay was $150 which I think is kind of pricey. read more

I've only wrote yelp reviews for restaurants & bars here, but this place definitely deserves a good yelp review...scratch that, the BEST yelp review. I'm terrified of going to the dentists and get super nervous when I'm in a dental office but I had a dental emergency so I needed to be seen right away and they were able to squeeze me in for the same day. (I ended up having an infection where my wisdom tooth was growing in so I looked like a chipmunk and needed medical attention right away) When I got there, I was nervous but Ann, the practice manager, greeted me with a smile and explained to me what was going on and had me fill out new patient forms. I noticed it was pretty busy so I was grateful that the Dr. agreed to see me. I waited for a little while, which I didn't mind about because of the fact they were seeing me with such short notice. When I was seen by Dr. Hsu, he was so gentle and so friendly, he made me feel at ease and not so nervous anymore. He prescribed me antibiotics and pain killers for the infection, and gave me referrals to oral surgeons to book an appointment. He explained everything to me in an easy manner so I can understand and also not freak out. I like this place and will definitely make it my go to dentist because everyone is so nice. Even if it seems hectic, they don't rush you...they actually sit and talk to you and help you out with whatever's bothering you. They seem so genuine, I'm happy I chose this place to go to for my dental emergency and will def. be coming back in the future! read more

Dr. Hsu is awesome! Yes, the location isn't great, but there are dodgy spots all over Boston -- kind of difficult to find a "warm" location in a city. I always feel reassured by him and his staff. Regular cleanings are thorough and my teeth always feel very clean when I leave the office. The front desk does a good job of explaining what is owed and what is covered by insurance, which not all places do. I've had a few questions about this and they always point me in the right direction. I've had a few things come up since I moved to Boston 6 years ago outside of regular cleanings. 1. Got married and one of my bonded teeth was becoming discolored. I scheduled time with Dr. Hsu to fix it. He was very nice, asked my opinion and asked multiple times before packing up that it was comfortable and that I was happy. The overall outcome was great and the cost was very reasonable. My wedding pictures looked awesome and I felt confident smiling. 2. More recently, my 3rd wisdom tooth started coming through and I was experiencing extreme pain. They squeezed me in day of and Dr. Hsu explained what was happening in great detail. He assured me of how we were going to treat it, and as other reviews suggest he has a holistic view on health and dental health (which I really appreciate it) -- for example, I have an infection and he suggested Listerine + antibiotics to treat it, but if I'm interested in a natural solution, warm salt water should also suffice. I appreciate multiple suggestions and lenses he takes to medicine. Overall, I feel very comfortable and happy going to him. read more

I was visiting Boston on a Saturday afternoon in Oct 2016 when I had a dental emergency. Using yelp, I tried to find a dentist that was still open. Suffolk Dental was only going to be open for another half an hour when I called them. The wonderful dentist, Dr. Hsu and staff stayed open and took care of me- my visit ended an hour and a half after they had closed. I needed a second opinion for an old root canal that my other dentist thought has an infection and I called in last week. They were able to get me an appointment in a week (today) and I saw Dr. Hsu in the afternoon. Now i understand why fellow yelpers rave about this place. Besides being very nice and patient, Dr Hsu explained the difficulties of my situation to me (two root canals done a few years back, but now with not much tooth structure left, and I need invisilign to correct the front teeth crowding). For the first time after seeing many other dentists, Dr Hsu said I didn't need to get my root canaled teeth pulled out (my regular dentist suggested and insisted so) to do the invisilign and explained why it might be better to leave them there as long as there's no infection. Also for the first time, a dentist is saying something I always felt true "there's no infection in the root canal", since it hasn't bothered me in the past 9 years, while my other dentists have claimed that there's an infection based on the denser appearance of the bone from the X-ray. Moreover, after suggesting I do a temporary crown in order to get the braces done, he Recommended and Referred me to another dentist, the best orthodontist he knows, a professor at Harvard School of Dental Medicine, to double check the root canal for me. He made sure his assistant sent my x-rays to the orthodontist he referrred to and instructed me on things to prepare before seeing that dentist. It was a truly professional experience. I fly overseas in just a few hours but I'm taking a break from packing to write this review for Dr. Hsu and his staff. I was not a regular patient here, but I was in a bind after chipping a front tooth 12 hours before hopping on an overseas flight. After calling 12 dental offices late in the afternoon, I called this dental practice and the nice woman who answered showed a genuine interest in seeing if she could arrange that my emergency be accommodated. She called the dentist and this guy had done what no other doctor or businessman had ever done before. He returned to the office after already finishing up his day to ensure that my chipped tooth was promptly repaired before I had to travel. The office was immaculate, the staff was super friendly, and I can confidently say that I will be referring my friends to this office because of their professionalism and dedication to their patients. read more

My wife is a vip at the dentist. Unfortunately, she has been there more than her fair share over the past year. Some sketchy place on a back street in Cambridge gave her an awful filling and the pain had been growing over the past year, and finally got to the point where she had to get a root canal and a crown. Dr. Hsu and his crew were very friendly, helpful, patient, and informative every step of the way. When it came time to actually do the procedure(s) they did a first rate job. I think everyone agrees Dr. Hsu is a superstar dentist. I have complete trust in Dr. Hsu, I always had issues with my teeth (myself and genes to blame) but Dr. Hsu and his staff assures me each time I visit that everything is in check. Everyone takes time to explain the procedure/process/ or even just the importance of oral health. People always picture dentists as someone who invents more problems to get more money out of you but let me tell you, Dr. Hsu stops me from making unnecessary and expensive procedures (like whitening) and embrace my natural teeth as long as they are healthy. When looking for a new dentist (I moved 2 years ago and have been putting it off until now) I really felt like it was suspicious to see so many 5 star reviews for a dentist. I read through them and decided to give it a shot. Let me tell you, this is the real deal. This place is super patient-focused and is all about making you feel comfortable. That's a big deal especially in a place that so many people feel very stressed and uncomfortable. The staff is personable and helpful. The hygienist was very gentle during my xrays and the cleaning but my teeth still feel super clean. She put a little vaseline on my lips so they didnt get irritated by her gloves and they give you a little hot towel at the end too. I know those don't seem like a big deal but the little touches really make you feel more comfortable. The hygienist did a great job answering my questions and giving me little tips about how to improve my dental health. Dr. Hsu came in to check on everything and was also very friendly and helpful. I remember my first visit with Dr. Hsu. I'd moved around a lot and probably seen 10 or more dentists in various locations across the US though the years. During that first visit I realized that I'd received pretty average (at best) dental care from ALL of them. Dr. Hsu was strikingly different: he took his time with me, cleaned meticulously, and, well, I've never been to another dentist since. In the 15+ years since my first visit, he's managed to grow his practice and surround himself with outstanding office and clinical staff that are (almost) as impressive as him. I no longer live in Boston, but I have no problem commuting an hour to Suffolk Dental b/c I know they have me covered, and then some. read more
