I learned about this gem on my last day of visiting Charleston and I'm so glad I stopped in. We got there as they were opening right at 10 o'clock and we were the first customers. The shop is super cute inside. And it smelled absolutely delicious. I love the way that they had everything laid out for you to see. And the ladies that worked there were very sweet and answered any questions that we had. I like that when you start to tell them what you want they have a cake plate that they put your items on and then they'll box it up at the end. It just had a really special feel to the service of how they treat you there. Now let's get into the sweet treats. I bought a chocolate chip cookie, a oatmeal raisin cookie and a ginger molasses cookie. They were all delicious, but that oatmeal raisin cookie was amazing. I also got too many cupcakes. I did the vanilla blueberry and the honey. Both were very good. And I got a pecan brownie. I loved the pecan brownie! My only problem with the brownie is that it's so small. I would love for them to make them bigger for the price, but absolutely delicious. I love that none of the sweets tasted too sweet. They were perfectly balanced. I recommend checking out the spot. It will definitely satisfy your sweet tooth. read more

I arrived late but there was still a bunch of items to choose from on a Monday afternoon. Service was quick and friendly and the shop smelled great. There's no seating inside but they have a cute little patio with lots of plants outside. I ordered the blackberry sage, peanut butter and chocolate and vanilla cupcake. The cupcakes were nice and light with not too much buttercream on top. The blackberry sage was my favorite with fresh blackberry jam in the middle. I didn't taste the sage but it was still delicious. I really want to try their cookies and banana pudding too! read more

Cute little bakery downtown. Go early for the best selection of cupcakes etc. Service was very polite and she filled me in on their other flavors they normally have if you're there early. Only downside imo is that the only seating is outside in direct sun (at least at 3:30) and it's pretty toasty. But great place to grab and go some sweet treats! read more

This is a delightful little bake shop nestled in a Charleston neighborhood with friendly customer service. All of the displayed treats are visually appealing and the shop smells wonderful! We ordered the vanilla blueberry, red velvet, and almond cupcakes, plus the pecan chewy and a couple of cookies. Everything looked so amazing that it was difficult to make a choice! The frosting on the cupcakes is absolutely delicious. Unfortunately, we found the cake portion to be a bit dry or stale. The cookies (oatmeal and chocolate chip) are moist and tasty, but might benefit from just a little salt. Aside from a little lack of freshness with the cupcakes, I have no doubt this is an excellent bakery and would recommend giving them a try if you're ever in the area. read more

Okay I want to preface this by saying, I know desserts are sweet. And, believe it or not, that's one of the many things I like about them. That said - I ordered an almond cupcake from here. I was thrilled to see that as an option, because I'm a big almond/vanilla flavor person, and you don't always find that at bakeries! But... the frosting was so sweet I couldn't finish it. And then the cake part of the cupcake got all stuck on the wrapper. It wasn't the best of experiences. They also only have coffee, no fun coffee drinks, which seems like a missed opportunity! We ordered iced coffee which tasted like... cold leftover coffee poured over ice. Not great. The ambiance of the shop was really cute, both inside and out, and they have an adorable tiny courtyard type patio with a few tables. read more

I came here on Friday to pick up some gluten free cupcakes for my sister and I grabbed some regular stuff too. The staff were very personable and the place smelled soo good! The pecan pie bar and coconut cupcake were delicious! I purchased the raspberry lemonade gf cupcake and the chocolate honey coconut gf cupcake. The lemon raspberry cupcake was delicious and definitely my sister's favorite! So flavorful and perfectly balanced, the jam in the center adds a nice balance of moisture for a gluten free cupcake. The chocolate however was both of our least favorite. The frosting is light and delicious and would pair well with a chocolate cupcake, however, It was overbaked to the point of where you could taste it being burnt on the back note of the bite. It was so dry that it sucked all the moisture out of our mouths and overall severely disappointing!!! There are other delicious gf sweets that they serve, but they are very popular and sell out fast. I highly recommend this bakery, but their gluten free chocolate cupcake needs work. read more

Stopped by to visit on a Saturday afternoon at 3 pm and unfortunately most of the cupcakes were already sold out. But, I did get to try a double chocolate cookie ($3.45), that was the size of my face, and it was amazing. The batch just came out of the oven and was still warm. The cookie was perfectly sweet, and very rich and chewy. The interior is cute but very small. There's no real seating inside but they had a couple benches right outside the store. Next time, I would definitely recommend coming here earlier in the day. read more

I wanted to love Sugar a lot more than I did. Ultimately the products were good, just not great for my family. They are local and have been in Charleston the past four years. They have a cult following. I came on a weekday and scored free off street parking nearby. The neighborhood may be transitioning as there is a lot of room for redevelopment. It's a beautiful tree lined avenue. The shop is adorable from the outside and a side patio to enjoy the treats was very nice. The area was clean and inviting and a trash can was handy. Inside the store its very compact. So only 3-4 customers at a time. They offer more than just cupcakes too! The staff was friendly and helpful choosing a cupcake from maybe six varieties. They looked average to me. With Easter approaching they put jelly beans on top which was creative The cakes are pricey and the size average to small. We decided on a half dozen and got a variety and wasted no time trying them. The three of us were underwhelmed with our selections, but we each liked, just did not love. Make no mistake they were fresh, the flavors just did not hit on our picks. My first selection of mocha was ok, second of coconut was delicious! So check them out and you can decide on the hype and other strong reviews. For me a 3.5 rounding up fits them best. read more

Oh my oh my oh my....I want to go back here time and time and time again to taste everything in the store... But, we were on a mission. My daughter is getting married in April and we are doing everything with local and small businesses. Besides the traditional cake, she'd like to serve big chewy cookies. We had a list of bakeries, and this was our first stop. We purchased a chocolate chip, ginger molasses, double chocolate, and oatmeal raisin. Opening and tasting in the car we knew we found the cookie she desired. Truly heavenly delicious, and our search ended. Absolutely adorable! This place has been on my Charleston bucket list for a few years now, and I finally was able to stop by. It is very quaint and doesn't offer a ton of seating, but it does offer SO many different delicious options! I tried the vanilla blueberry cupcake, funfetti cupcake, and a peanut butter cookie sandwich. All three were incredible, and my total was around $12, which I thought was fair. Service was exceptional and their menu is extensive. I would definitely recommend getting a box of sweets as a valentines day or birthday present for someone. We hopped upon this spot on a tour in Charleston! We were told it's one of the top 10 bakeries in the United States! We had a great time. The desserts we each chose were delicious. If you are near by it's a must stop! We each also had a pecan bar (not photoed) but DELICIOUS. I couldn't stop saying mmmmmmmmmmmm the entire time hahahah read more

Everything this place has to offer is amazing. Went to pick up a mocha birthday cake and it was hard to walk out with a dozen cupcakes, cookies and cinnamon buns. The bakery is so cute and small and everyone is always polite and helpful. The mocha cake though is amazing. The chocolate cake is moist and rich without being overly sweet and the coffee buttercream is smooth with a good natural coffee flavor. read more

This is such a cute little bake shop is Charleston. The cupcake flavor selection is remarkable! I had such a hard time choosing a flavor. They had coconut, lime curd, raspberry, fruit loops, etc. I got the vanilla blueberry cupcake, and my friend had the raspberry lemon cupcake. My other friend had a lemon tea donut. Everything was so yummy. I was very tempted to buy more flavors. The cookies also looked great! The prices were also reasonable. If I had more time in Charleston, I would go back for more cupcakes. read more

I recently went to this bakery and tried 5 (yes, 5) cupcakes. They were all amazing - very moist and delicious. The icing to cupcake ratio was spot on. And they have a cute patio off the storefront to enjoy your cupcakes (which is where I ate my first 2 ). I can't say enough great things about this bakery. Cute little bakery. They sell cookies and cupcakes. I thought their cookies were amazing. They had a light crunch on the outside, but were perfectly soft, gooey, and moist on the inside. They also came in many flavors and were quite large. The cupcakes weren't as magical, but they were still good. In my opinion, the cake was moist and flavorful but I would have liked it to have been just a little bit softer. I also prefer my toppings to be more extravagant... I did an Uber eats order for a bday and they did the nicest wrapping and called to make sure I would have a great order. They helped make the cupcakes feel extra special. Big fan of their lattes if you want to grab coffee while picking up a dessert. They also do super cute decorations for Halloween. Minimal street parking in front and can eat pasty outside. Got a s'mores bday cake and it was good. Great local spot. read more

The cutest little bakery with sidewalk tables and yummy desserts. We walked by everyday waiting for their curtains to be open so we could see inside. They have a variety of mini muffins, regular muffins, and cookies. The muffins are adorable and have unique flavors but I'm not much of a cake person, cookies are my jam. I suggest getting what you want when you see it. We made the mistake of waiting until our walk back from town and all the cookies were gone. The next day we went right at 10. I got the buckwheat/gluten free chocolate chip (per recommendation from the nice employee), m$m, and ginger molasses. They were all, large, gooey and soft, and they warmed up the one I wanted to eat right away. The buckwheat was a nice twist on original chocolate chip. I am drooling thinking about them and wishing I had gotten more. All my pictures are on my husband's phone but I will load them later. read more

Wow I don't live in Charleston SC and thank goodness for that because I'd be fat and broke. These miniature little cakes are incredible and I'm a sweets connoisseur so trust me when I say it. The cupcakes were light moist and tasted exactly like their advertised. If you're in the area this has to be on your list of places to stop by. First, the guy who took my order was so charming and helpful, taking note of the theme and helping me decide on colors and flavors. We settled on a dozen cupcakes (half chocolate chocolate and half raspberry lemon) w some rose gold sprinkles and then a dozen chocolate chip cookies. LAWD, the cookies. They are HUGE and chewy and seriously taste like what I imagine heaven would taste like if it were a cookie. Perfect w coffee in the AM to help w those bachelorette party "headaches" ha!! Soooo I had to find this place myself! No one told Me! Craving sweets after work and Yelped Sugar Bakeshop, found street parking and made my way into this quaint Bakeshop. Immediately I was impressed with the display of cookies, cupcakes and other baked treats that filled the space. The open kitchen was impressive and the bakers were working diligently. I was greeted and opted for this pecan ooey goey bar! The thing was tasty, I mean.. sheesh I could taste the butter and goodness lol I was impressed by this little bitty thing. So very good! We were only in Charleston for four days and we went twice! The cupcakes were light and moist and not overly sweet. The cookies were just dynamite. I brought two home for my son and husband. My friend had the gluten free options and commented on how moist and delicious they were. The staff are friendly, patient, and helpful. I've wanted to check this place out for a while. I wasn't disappointed! It's an adorable, tiny shop. It's picturesque inside and out. There's a large menu board behind the register. The prices aren't listed anywhere--well at least we didn't see any. The goodies are beautifully displayed--they look almost too perfect to eat. They sell cupcakes in an assortment of flavors, huge cookies, layer cake, brownies, and chewies. I got a vanilla cupcake. My mom got a chewy and an oatmeal raisin cookie. The cupcake was fresh and delicious. I wish I had gotten another. My mom enjoyed the chewy and cookie. They have a small corner with other local merchandise, including tea, candles, and soap. There's a small courtyard area with tables. Parking was a little confusing but I figured it out quickly. read more

I was traveling from out of town to celebrate a 50th BD. I contacted them for a a simple vanilla cake with vanilla frosting. We picked it up and it was ready and as promised. We had 9 people at dinner and the cake was delicious. The BD friend does not really like frosting but went back for seconds. Whatever frosting you use was perfect Thanks so much read more

There's the tiny bakeshop storefront and right next door is where they do all the baking. I'm noting this because I almost walked into the other spot but thankfully they had a sign on the door saying it was staff only and the bakeshop was right next door. The storefront itself had all the Southern charm, with a classic flower window box at the window and the friendliest staff greeting you as soon as you walked in. I went on a weekday around 8am and it wasn't busy at all. I was able to peruse their AMAZING selection & had the hardest time choosing. Thankfully, I had my uber waiting for me so I had to make quick decisions. I ended up getting a pastel de nata, everything bagel kolache, fig leaf sugar bun, and a dark choco chip cookie (because I always need to try the local cookie). Everything tasted fresh and delicious! I loved the variety in their pastries and was amazed that there were concepts for pastries I've never heard or tried before. Deciding what to order was nearly impossible because I wanted at least one of everything. I somehow exercised a tiny bit of self-control in this tiny bakeshop and settled on a breakfast sandwich along with a pastry to go. Both were melt-in-your-mouth delicious. I only wish we had discovered Welton's earlier in our trip because I know we would have gone back at least once... probably twice... okay, maybe every morning.
