I really wish I could rate them better, and saddens me that they do business the way that they do. They are close to our house so they are at a very convenient location for our family. Here is where the problems lay though... 1) My child is involved in many extracurricular activities and all of them auto-bill by credit card with no issues. However, Sugar Land Gymnastics will charge you an extra 10.00 a month for using a credit card. Most businesses would be more than happy to have a guaranteed payment every month, but not Sugar Land Gymnastics. 2) Again, my child is involved in many extracurricular activities, and sometimes the schedule needs to be adjusted. If you need to change your child's schedule they will charge you 35.00 to do so. Nobody else does this, it does not cost them a dime and they are going to punish you because you are trying to juggle things around in order to keep doing business with them. Makes me think they don't really want my business. 3) If they decide to cancel a class which they have done many times, they will not pro-rate the fees like everyone else. Instead they will give you a token for a make-up class. The problem is my child is busy the other days of the week. And on top of that the make-up token expires in 30 days. I can't even tell you how many tokens have come and gone unspent. They cancelled class earlier this month for "Winter Games" and issued a token. I searched the entire winter break and one class was available and I signed up for it and just got notice back the make-up class request was denied. As much as I would like my child to continue gymnastics I think it's time to move on to a business that values our business... read more

Coaches are great with my daughter. They're patient, kind and my daughter has learned a lot since joining. My only complaint is that the waiting room is TINY. Everyone is crammed in there. Other than that we are happy with this gym. read more

Staff is not patient or good with little kids. Find another gym for your toddlers. Every time we drive by the facility my daughter screams "NO GYMNASTICS!" I don't know what the teacher did to her but she HATES it now. Very sad. Find another gym. read more

I decided to upgrade my review because I believe that last one was a little harsh. Honestly most gyms are run this way. We've moved across the country to get my daughter the right training. My daughter is now in a world class gym with Olympians and this gym is the only gym (she's attended) that focuses on making champions. Your child has to know they want to be a champion to make it at this gym and I can see the value of gyms that have more of a "fun" focus first. What if you child is not that interested? Well you will find that out at a gym like this. It serves it's purpose. If you are testing the waters there is nothing wrong with Sugar Land Gymnastics. If your child has shown a serious interest and wants to compete at a high level then you can make a change from there. Even the last gym (I recommended) in my previous post could not compare to her current gym, so I realize my post was a little unfair. Thia place does not care about customers' feeling. Once you sign up, then you will be tied up with all pocily changes they see fit them! ; number of kids in class increasing from what promised, just to name one of them. Staffs at the fromt are terse, dry and inhospitable and cocky. The place is cramped. Things have been deteriorating hereand I am not surprised number of kids declining as more complaints on classes and staffs increasing. Bad staff and mangement of all. This place is a money making racket. The instructors hardly teach or focus on the kids. They keep the kids in the basic class for multiple terms rather than focusing on kids's development areas and trying to take them to the next level. Most of our friends told us so but we had to learn this the hard way. My child did 2 terms and I have decided to pull them out as there is hardly any progress and he is getting bored. If you are looking for a very young child - mommy and me type of experience this might be ok. If you really want to see your school going kids develop in gymnastics this is definitely not the place. read more

My wife purchased an 8 pack of Mommy and Me gymnastics classes via Groupon or similar website. I did most of the classes with our daughter who is a few months from turning 2. I'll review the different aspects separately. The gym - its big, its nice. Tons of equipment! It seemed clean. With lots of people on the floor it wasn't crowded. The class - Mommy and Me was fun (they even called it Daddy and Me when they spoke directly to me... dads don't worry, there are plenty of dads there with kids). The activities were focused and well suited for the young age group. My daughter was challenged, stimulated and always very excited. A few of the activities didn't suite my daughters fancy... but that's ok because no one pushes them on you. A typical class would start with stretching, then rotating between 3 activity groups: 1. The first was a long trampoline where the kids would bounce down the path doing different jumps. Jumping with their hands in the air, jumping with their legs spread apart, jumping backwards.... then on the way back to the start of the trampoline there was a small gymnastic "obstacle course" (if you will). Walking a straight line, climbing, somersaults, all pretty simple and fun. 2. The second group was a trapeze swing. The trapeze is really low and the kids just hang from the bar and swing over the foam pit. After a few swings they fall into the pit (most loved this part). At the same time some parallel bars were available for you child to do pull ups, swing, hang leg lifts (all assisted by you). 3. The third group was a much bigger obstacle course. As everyone does the course, one kid is loaded into a harness and lifted by an instructor. Here the kids can bounce or swing or be lifted really high into the air (as high as the kid wants!). My daughter was pretty timid on the harness part, but she enjoyed. Once the kids got warn out here, they could take a dip in the foam pool (pit). The pit was just about everyones favorite! The after-class - this is probably the best part of it all. Your child will be ready for a nice long nap when you get home! The instructors - everyone is friendly! Everyone is approachable. I got the feeling some of the instructors didn't just LOVE working with little kids. I know it takes a special type of person to really love working with little kids. There were some instructors who did love the little kids. Chester was my favorite, he was caring and focused on the little ones. He remember my daughters name week after week, which really impressed me! And during smaller classes, he gave extra one on one attention to each future-Olympian. He wasn't the only one, but he stood out and you could see how much he cared. The "Groupon" part - with many online deals, things tend to sell a lot! The first few classes were PACKED. I couldn't believe how many people were there. Our deal was 8 Mommy and Me classes. They gave us a schedule, we could attend any 8 of the Mommy and Me classes. For my wife and I, that meant Saturday classes.... well, turns out that was the same for 98% of the rest of the people who bought the deal as well. If you are able, go on a week day!!! For our last class I went on a Monday... we were one of 8 kids instead of 1 of 45+. As we got near the end of the schedule (you have something around 2 months to use your classes) the classes got smaller. But nothing beat the Monday class. That is where we got the most activities done and the most one on one attention. The parents - each group will have different people, but each group will have the same type of people. I had issues with 2 types, I suggest you identify them and try and get into a different group (with the bigger classes they break the large group into 3 smaller ones after exercises). The most annoying was the absent parent. This is the person who practically drops their kid off to the Mommy and Me class. The walk off to do other things... mainly talk on their cell phone while their kid goes wild through out the gym. Its not safe! The kids are trying to focus on their activity and here comes wild child running past them, pushing them, getting in the way. I was disappointed mainly in the parents of these kids, but also in the staff for letting it happen. Its very difficult to teach your kids patience and wait your turn, when another child comes running by them out of no where like its a free for all circus. The other parent to avoid is the "my child is going to the Olympic games tomorrow" parent. THESE KIDS ARE 2. Let them have fun, let the parents have a relaxing time with their children. I'm fine if that is their life style, but when it affects my daughters class its really annoying. A final note about parents, many parents are focused on the harness swing. Watch out for the long line that forms immediately as class starts! Yelp is telling me I'm out of room to write more! Hope this helps. This is the second gym in Sugar Land we've gone to for our lessons. Yes, the class sizes are big but I still feel both my daughters are learning and being pushed. Last gym they were there for 6 months and hardly learned bridges. Definitely more happy here. Also letting them see what some of the bigger (and even some of the younger) kids can do is great motivation for them. Would give 5 stars if I was able to have more interaction with the coaches and knew a little more of the lesson plan but I'd feel like I was taking up their time as it's one class out and the next one right in. read more

I would give this place five stars except the front desk staff. They're not really rude, just disinterested and less than helpful. This should not stop you from coming in to take a class. I have seen them allow people to try a class before they buy, call ahead and ask if your concerned your child won't like it. We did both a mommy and me class with my two year old and a super tots class with my four year old. My two year old clung to me and cried through his whole first class, the coaches assured me that this would pass, and it did. Both kids love coming here we plan to keep coming here long term. Declining quality: I have been a loyal customer at Sugar Land Gymnastics since last summer (6/12). After renewing for the fall term, we saw a significant increase in class size! We went from a 4:1 student:teacher ratio to a 6:1 typically. On top of that, the quality of instructors severely declined. Shannon spoiled us over the summer! The other instructors seem to have difficulty handling the 2-4 year-olds in their classes. We decided to renew for this winter term (January/February) because Shannon would be teaching the class again. Since then, we've seen the classes balloon even more! Now, some classes will have 8 or more kids in them. If there are more than 6 students, they do have an additional instructor present, but that still means less on-apparatus time for each student... Part of the reason the classes may be over-crowded is that they don't know about it or don't care. Just before I dropped of my Groupon, there was a woman there asking if her child could move from one time to another. She was told repeatedly that the time she wanted to move to was full. Yet, when I took my child to that time class - she was there with her child! She had clearly been told it was full, but just put her child in that "Full" class anyway - now making it over-full! The instructors let it happen! Climax: The end of January they offered a Groupon that I purchased thinking a friend could use it. The friend backed out and opted to go to another gym. I then took the Groupon in to apply a credit to my account. I knew that I wouldn't be able to take advantage of the Groupon discount, but simply wanted the cash value (amount paid) to be applied to my account - as all Groupons state that the cash value never expires. When I took it in, I was told - point blank - that they "can't accept that as payment." When I pointed out that the Groupon even contains the text that the paid value never expires, I was told that the manager would have to contact me. Fine. Next day - the manager calls me and lets me know that they won't honor the cash value that I paid for the Groupon because I don't qualify for the Groupon since my child is already a student there. I explained the Groupon policy - which you'd think the business would know about. The manager again said they don't do that... I said, "Fine. I'll get my money back from Groupon and let them know that you don't honor their policy of the cash value never expiring." The manager's response was to cut me a check for the cash value of the Groupon AND for the remaining classes we haven't attended! He bought me out! I guess they have an excess of income and don't need their current customers! I was amazed/shocked by the manager's response & want others to know how he does business. Instead of simply applying the $69 to my account and letting us continue to be loyal customers, he opted to buy us out and boot us out. Summary: It has become obvious that Sugar Land Gymnastics has just a few people that care about the kids and their instruction. The manager is not one of them! The over-crowded classes, lack of parking, cramped waiting areas, lack of restrooms for the number of people on site all contribute to poor facilities. The manager is more concerned about $$$ than scheduling a reasonable number of students to be on-site at one time. Shannon (instructor) and Betty (desk staff) are awesome at Sugar Land Gymnastics! They are the only reason for the single star this business is receiving! Their manager, Brian, has forced me to take my business elsewhere. After this buy-out, we won't be back - since we are no longer welcome - but we will miss Shannon! This makes me wonder how many other people he has bought-out... There are other options all within ~5 miles of Sugar Land Gymnastics: GymTex Gymnastics, Sugar Land Little Gym, Sea Star Gymnastics & Swim School. Please take your business to one of these sites instead of SLG! read more

I have been a loyal customer at Sugar Land Gymnastics since last summer (6/12). For the past two Mommy & Me classes, the class size has ballooned from 3 kids to 7 kids, and finally to 12 kids as of today (01/29). This exponential growth is due to a recent Groupon they offered. I expressed my displeasure to the manager that the Mommy & Me class was not effective with the large number of students that participated. I was told, when I signed up as a customer, that during the school season of gymnastics that each class would not have more than 6 kids. The manager proceeded to tell me information that directly contradicted what I was told by their staff and I tried to ascertain if this was his intent going forward. He very rudely told me that this was his gym and he would run it as he sees fit. I was shocked by the manager's response and lack of professionalism and would like others to be aware of this. Obviously he was not willing to address my concern and instead chose to be adversarial and demeaning in his response (he made couple of other unprofessional comments towards me). It was clear that the manager did not care about my loyalty and had no intention of honoring the 6 to 1 student to teacher ratio. I called later in the day and tried to get my concerns addressed and spoke with a lady who was more understanding. She confirmed that the size of the class was set to 6 kids or less and that she was sorry for the experience and hoped it could be resolved. Although this person was very nice, the manager has made me want to take my business elsewhere. I would have expected the management of the gym to properly forecast the increase in class sizes and make the necessary adjustments to maintain the proper student to teacher ratio. Judging by the manager's actions and words, it seems that Sugar Land Gymnastics only cares about maximizing their profits by mis-representing the quality of their programs and getting you to sign a long term contract with them. Long story short, this place has very unfriendly cancellation policy. And the owner is very rude and unprofessional. I signed my little 5 year old girl up for her first venture in gymnastics. I paid for two months up front...they wanted me to do auto payments. I refused b/c she can only go in the Summer b/c we work full-time and just hire a nanny for the Summer. UNREAL they let her go two times...then told her she couldn't come any longer until I signed up for auto-payments...of course this is to the Nanny...who is standing there with a VERY sad little girl. Mind you the lessons they denied her are the ones I have already paid for!! They forget they are dealing with children. Not impressed with their customer relations. The people who are at the front desk are very unfriendly...and frankly sound frazzled like they are in a job over their skill-set. I totally get why everyone raves about Iron Cross...should have gone there first. Shame on me. read more

Everything was going great until my daughter decided she didn't want to do gymnastics anymore. We gave the required 60 day notice and after the third month, they STILL took the money out of my account. I called to let them know that they made a mistake and I needed the refund as my daughter was not going to be going anymore. They refused to put the money back into my account and said they'd mail a check in two weeks. Since I'm leaving out of town, I asked if I could pick up the check instead. I was passed to a manager and he started yelling at me and telling me that he would not mail my check today, he was going to wait two weeks to mail it because I shouldn't have asked to go pick it up. OMG! I couldn't believe how rude the staff was! It's MY money and their mistake!!!! If you go here, make sure you never close your accounts or you'll get treated like you're worthless. Horrible. On my first day of class, we went there early. I told the ladies there in the little office that we are new and please let us know when the class start. They did not inform us when class start. I saw it pass class time and the so I asked (there are multiple classes going on). They started the class without informing us. During one class, my kid was making a tired gesture during the warm up. One the of INSTRUCTOR saw it and started laughing. Other kids found out want the instructor was laughing at, and they started to imitate my child. They all start laughing together. Because of the instructor immatureness, my child got make fun of. Just pay attention how they greet your child when they start the class. read more
