I've been hearing about Sugarleaf being one of the authentic organic restaurants but I haven't really gotten around to eating there as San Juan seemed far off. So when I had a client meeting there, I seized the chance to finally have dinner at Sugarleaf.
I immediately noticed "organic" and "free-range" on the menu. Even the chorizo was written as "low in cholesterol." They also have a combination of juices named according to their health benefit - for example, an apple, ginger, lime, and garlic juice is named "Detox." Their cakes and pastries, meanwhile, use diabetic-friendly sweeteners.
I ordered the vegetarian sandwich (about P150) which has a hefty filling of different fresh vegetables, including sweet roasted peppers and alfalfa sprouts. Its red wine vinaigrette is the perfect dressing for it. The sandwich was served with unsweetened banana chips.
For dessert, I ordered the chocolate flavor of their coco kefir ice cream. I have tasted dairy-free ice cream before, and this one was also good. Plus, it has kefir, which has digestive benefits. Not bad for an ice cream. read more
