This place is absolutely gorgeous! From the marble and giant circular chandeliers. The autumn inspired decor of blush colored flowers and pumpkins makes the cafe warm and comforting. I ordered the pumpkin latte and pie combo that was served in a medium size pumpkin. I opted for an iced latte since I wasn't sure how the hot latte would hold up in the pumpkin. 10/10 for looks! The slice of pumpkin was sweet and the crust was flakey. Other tables nearby ordered crepes and pasta that smelled delicious. Located across the street from Chicagos art museum this was a great place to start the day. For breakfast I got their cookies and cream pancakes. They were super fluffy and sweet. I also got their marshmallow hot chocolate which was matched well for the cold weather. The service was quick and efficient but could work on being more welcoming to its guests. The interior design is classy and elegant for a cafe/brunch spot. Though it is pretty small so be prepared to wait awhile to get seated. Speaking of seating, it was crammed on the day we went. For a party of 3 we sat awkwardly on a table that should only accommodate 2 people. It was definitely an attempt to get us served rather than having to wait longer than we did but it did come at the cost of some comfort being taken from us and the people around us because our chairs were practically back to back and shoulder to shoulder. Food also tasted horrendous and was barely edible. Food also insanely overpriced, esp given the quality which tasted like it was microwaved). Service was not mean/rude but was insanely slow, server took our plates away and then we waited over half an hour after to get checks (they weren't busy the whole time). The good things here are the cute decor (very cute outdoor umbrellas and inside looks cute) and my London fog tea tasted good. The specialty (non-alcoholic) drinks are $10 which is actually insane. Full disclosure: we did not eat here. Why? Because the staff was rude and unwelcoming. I went in on Saturday in person to make reservations for 8 AM Sunday morning. The staff wrote down my name and the time. When we tried to go in at 7:58 the next morning , we were greeted with "we're closed, wait outside!" So we stood outside the door and then they came out to set up the outside tables and said it would be 20 more minutes. No apologies, no explanation. From there, I ordered a churro latte served hot and the Falling in Love Tower (as I had seen the very same morning of my brunch experience). Sipped my latte while awaiting my tower only to be even more disappointed... the tower came.. not only did it not look like the pictures & videos they posted this morning, but it was missing key elements to make it worth the $45 price tag. Thankfully, I had a menu and I pointed to where it was listed in the ingredients.. she reverted to her first statement and said she would check to see what happened. I am so lucky to be one of the first people to experience this cafe! It quickly became one of my favorite coffee shops in the loop. All of the workers were so patient with us because we were unsure of what to get, and there was wonderful service all around. They gave great recommendations and it was all so delicious! Great place to eat or take out from. Very nicely located in front of Millenium Park. There are not many seating options, so it may get very crammed on busy weekends. Max and I didn't want the local chain breakfast, so when we saw the beautiful Persian umbrellas, we thought we found a tranquil place to enjoy breakfast. We chose to sit inside and enjoy breakfast and the nightmare started to unfold. The music was great for someone who is hard of hearing. Our waiter approached and I requested the Creme Brulee Coffee. It's supposed to come with gold dust. What arrived wasn't your Disney spattering of pixie dust. I questioned this and he said I ordered two coffees. No I didn't. We argued back and forth until I had to retrieve a menu to continue to argue my case. He was mad, took the regular coffee away only to return with the same coffee covered in a blanket of gold. Max ordered his avocado toast and I ordered the Chicago breakfast. His arrived and I sat and watched him eat his. I was in suspense waiting for mine. Finally, mine arrived and I noticed I didn't have salt or pepper. I had to get up and hunt it down myself. The other waitstaff watched me spread my butter with a fork. No knives on the table. We don't need any stinking knives. The eggs, I am afraid to say, may be liquid or powder. As we sat waiting for the check, others came inside to this doom show and weren't acknowledged. The staff saw them, but didn't welcome them to the lion's den. Our waiter never asked us how the meal was. Maybe he knew the answer. The bill arrived and yes, I tipped 20% but the amusement was worth the pain. Oh, I forgot about the salt and pepper. It did not sit at our table while we ate. It was whisked away by our waiter to another table without an utter of a word. That was the final chapter to this masterpiece. read more

Sugary Chicago: A Sweet Disaster Sugary Chicago is, hands down, the worst dining experience I've ever had in Chicago. My friends dragged me there for their brunch towers, and I wish I had stayed home with a bowl of cereal instead. Let's start with the croissant. Calling it dull and chewy would be a compliment--this thing could double as a doorstop. It reminded me of an old white loaf bread left out for a week with a crusty exterior. Honestly, a prepacked grocery croissant would have been gourmet in comparison. The pasta? A culinary crime. Overcooked to the point of disintegration and overseasoned like someone upended a salt shaker into the pot. It was a soggy, salty mess. Now, let's talk about the tower, which was the most overpriced, underwhelming collection of sad food I've ever seen. Two stale croissants, a diabetic nightmare of an acai bowl, a pancake that tasted like Betty Crocker's worst attempt, with a side of horrendous chocolate dip, an omelette, and a random burger all on one tower? It was like a bad joke. The only thing remotely edible was the fruit cup, and that's not saying much because they didn't even make it--just chopped up some fruit. Trying to avoid an immediate sugar coma, I opted for tea for my beverage. Even the tea was loaded with sugar, which made me wonder if they think their customers are hummingbirds. The pot was pretty, at least, but that's about it. To add insult to injury, there's a 30% service charge for parties of more than two. Thirty percent! For what? For bringing out overpriced, barely edible food masked by loading it with so much sugar and salt- hence the name. Sugary Chicago is pretentious, overpriced, and a complete joke. I'm giving it two stars instead of one only because now I have a great story to tell about the worst restaurant I've ever been to in Chicago. They took for ever to come by when we asked for the check, I told the server that the food had possibly cross contamination because it tasted different than eggs and ham, like if they cooked it with a dirty pan or together with another meal. The server Erika was polite, however the "lead" came extremely authoritative, asking why we kept eating the food and did not mentioned it before. I was with a friend and we only finished our coffee entirely and left 90% of the meal and the server Erika saw it. However they claimed to watch everything through the only 2 cameras they have which are pointing towards the entrance and we were sitting by the corner, a blind sote for the camera and the plant was clearly covering the view if it even reached that far underneath. María was extremely unprofessional, never had any visual contact as we were talking to her. They proceeded to offer us a free item but we rejected the offer, we did not wanted anything from this place since we questioned the Quality of their food, kitchen cleanliness and potential of cross contamination since the food was very bad. They claimed we ate it and that we must have told them something since the beginning rather than waiting. She also mentioned that this is something that always happens in their business. We had to pay for the entire meal which came out to $84 aprox for 2 ppl, they did not even offered us at least a discount since seeing we clearly did not liked the quality of the food since we left it all. I have never seen such a poor business management. They did not even had the decency of even apologizing, they came very defensive when we expressed that the meal was spoiled and possibly contaminated with other skillets residue. We were extremely frustrated and we told them we will leave this review to which they responded, go ahead we always have them! I am planning a birthday trip out of town with friends/family that will be traveling anywhere from 3-6 hours away. In an attempt to be proactive, I made a reservation for 10 people through Open Table (they have their reservations open and bookable, mind you). I received an email confirmation that my reservation was confirmed for 10. To my surprise, a few days later I get another automated email from Open Table saying my reservation was canceled and to call the restaurant for assistance, but no indication as to why it was canceled. Not a single call, email, or anything from the restaurant to let me know why this was being canceled or giving me a heads up that it would be canceled. I assumed it was a mistake in Open Table, so I called to get some clarity (no answer, and v-mail was not functional). I then sent them an email to their listed contact email, and it has been almost a week without a response. After reading these reviews, I am not surprised at all, and I'm actually tankful I now know not to waste my money here.
