Sully Historic Site is a plantation from the 18th century. Yes, that means people were enslaved on the property, which some of the markers indicate. If you visit, keep that in mind and use it as a lesson as why we must fight for equitable systems today. The property is spacious with a walking trail to the mansion and to the other sites. Parking is free. They host a number of activities like tours, scavenger hunts and programming for all age groups.

If you have a spare hour after visiting the air and space museum nearby, this is a good place to learn some civil war era history. The guide was knowledgeable and approachable, we really enjoyed our visit.

We had an amazing time here! We did both guided tours and our tour guides were very informative about the Sully Plantation. Being able to walk on the same grounds as slaves is both emotional and triumphant. To see how far our country has grown amazes me. Thank you for allowing us to see history through the stories of slave owners and slaves.

This place is fascinating and the plantation reminded me of George Washington's plantation in Mt. Vernon, but in a smaller version. There is only one slave house that has been reconstructed and the other two slave houses have been used as gift shop and office. You must visit the house because it is 90% original since 1700s. ***please see pictures that I uploaded*****

I came here to do some research for a project and it was fantastic! We came on such a lovely day back in spring and it was just so nice outside! We had reservations to have a tour guide show us around the house and the slave quarters. It was a very very reasonable price (7-10$) and the tour guide was fantastic!!! She let me take a bunch of photos and gave me so much extra information. I would highly recommend coming here if you want to learn a little bit of history about the Sully/Chantilly area. They also host events, and fun activities every month for people of all ages. Best part about this place, free entry! You can walk around and explore the trails all for free. It's so nice!

Great place to learn about some local history especially if you are into the Civil War type stuff. The area is close to some local businesses like ChickFila and has a big field for picnics and local events that are sometimes held during the weekends. The tour for house is inexpensive but you have to be there at the top of the hours in order to do the tour so make sure you come just before the hour starts otherwise you will be waiting a bit. Great place to learn about history and have a picnic.

We have passed this 220 year old historical site so many times on Sully road (also known as 28) but never actually stopped to visit. I finally took my daughter here for a report she had to complete and we had an AMaZINg time! We parked in the parking lot area, and proceeded to the visitor trailer. Inside the trailer you can purchase gifts, souvenirs, and/ or your tickets for the house tour. I think the ticket prices are pretty reasonable($7 for adult, $6 for student, $5 for children, and so on)--this is cheaper than the movies and you are getting a look inside of history! If you do not wish to pay for the house tour, you are free to roam around the property and view all of the other smaller houses. To enter the house tour you will need to receive a ticket from the visitor location. After we finished up at the shop, my daughter and I hiked up to the "big house" for our tour. We came on a winter week day, and took the last tour at 4pm. We really lucked out because no one else was waiting and we got our own personal tour! Our tour guide led us through each room of the house and gave us so much background information on each room and the artifacts located within. From the outside you would not expect this house to have as many rooms but there were a lot. Even though we were the last tour and it was the end of the day, our tour guide was very patient and nice, she let us take as much time as we wanted in each room, and we were able to ask as many questions as we could think of. There is only electricity in one room, and the rest of the house began to get dark after 4:40pm (since it is winter it gets darker quicker). Thank goodness my iPhone saved the day and I turned on my phone flashlight to view the remaining rooms on the third floor. You can also take as many pictures as you wish while on the tour. Because we asked so many questions, by the time our tour ended (each tour normally takes 45 minutes) the site was beginning to close (they close at 5pm) and the park people were locking up the additional houses and rooms. My daughter and I will be back to explore the rest of the property and the other things that you can see for free. I would recommend this tour to others---it is so nice to have a piece of history right up the street and not all the way in DC.

Also they have exhibits children will like. Could the county modernize this a bit? Yes please! However the exhibits tell a story, about animal species and nature that's in the area. I like that the folks are so approachable. The building is also pretty neat. By all means go behind it, and see what remains of older buildings. Also the pond is active with frogs and turtles. Walk on the deck and the views are pleasant. Parking sometimes on the weekends can be challenging. As for hiking opportunities, the trails are beginner friendly, and provide a way for city folks to enjoy a different experience.

With lots of open space for parking, I sat in my car and just had my coffee and donut. The view(s) from the parking lot itself was lovely (see 1st pic). The trails, too - although I didn't walk that much - also seemed nice; birds were chirping and the few people were friendly and said hello. Unlike other trails and parks which can be overwhelming in terms of its space and completely deserted at times, this place seemed is planned and paved well; it's doable for non hikers and great for casual walkers. If you are single and or have a dog, a couple, or in a group, this place seems to be for everyone, and it is a great place to come and reflect.

This new splash pad and playground serves as a reminder that damn Loudon County has some money. We got here at noon with our toddler and only planned to spend a couple of hours and ended up basically being here until they closed in the middle of summer at 8 PM. I think it's an amazing design to have three playground design for different ages right near the splash pad. Luckily it was like 5000° out so kids dried off the minute they left the waterpark to go to playgrounds. So being a wet mess really wasn't a concern. There are a few rules to the waterpark that includes no toys and no dogs and the standard diaper requirements for the incontinent , but otherwise it's pretty open and people were really really well behaved. The bathrooms are amazingly clean for a public bathrooms and offer wide enough stalls to change in. It's highly recommended because of temperatures and the fact that most of the place is concrete to wear water shoes. The only issue we had was that a baby kept putting wet banana peels like this was Mario kart in the splash pad and people kept tripping on them. Most of the water features are well functioning and a lot of fun. The playground themselves range from ages 5 to 12, and have a lot of hills with Astroturf, which is kind of fun to just roll down and they have slides built into them. There are a lot of climbing activities. The slides do get hot on a sunny day, but since the kids are already wet from the waterpark, they seem fine. And the park is very clean. We went on a weekday and it wasn't really that crowded, but I can see how weekends could be pretty full. They also have lots of tables for our families to sit down and enjoy some picnic items.

My kids love it. It's clean and lots of parking space and well maintained. It's worth visiting.read more
