This was a great old historic bar on the main Route 66. The bartenders were friendly and offered a bit of history when asked. This bar is famous for the longest continuous liquor license in Arizona. They have a lot of taxidermy animals on display. They also have food, but the two times we stopped in, we didn't eat. Employees will not come to your aid nor make any attempt stop the assault. Golf tourneys, car club shows and rallies all caution their members to avoid the Sultana. Literally the slowest service I have ever received in Northern AZ, which is really saying something. There are 3 people waiting for drinks at the bar and I've been waiting here for 10 minutes while I watch the bartenders chit-chat at the register. I get that it's a small town, but this is ridiculous. Serve your customers better. read more

What can you say about a bar (and grill) that's old school, has amazing bartenders and servers, great food and prices, and a place where the well drinks can be cheaper than the beer? You say "God bless America!" They are just off highway "40" on the sacred "Route 66" where anything can and does happen! They have live bands playing on the weekends ALL NIGHT LONG, and an electronic juke box, and darts (ok, there's just a tinge of modern technology to attract the nearby college kids! lol). There are pool tables in the back room and a large movie screen too, and just really great people enjoying the atmosphere! If you're the sort that likes loud, friendly, and lots of atmosphere, then this is your place! Jerrod, one of the most amazing bartenders of all time, he run's the bar and is first rate. We spotted him at Karoake one night and boy, he can sing! Great personality, knows his drinks , and is just a friendly guy! You must try the "Mountain Man" burger...tender sliced beef brisket, jalapeño peppers with melted cheddar cheese served with fries, it's a meal unto itself! Go there, eat, drink and be merry! Our stay in Williams, AZ was a lot of fun. We were entertained by the 4th Annual Car Show to boot. We stayed within a block of this 100+ year old bar, the Sultana Bar. The bar really needs to work on customer service. Tourists have nothing better but to blow their cash, and if anything, will tip better for good service. That was not the case here. The bartender came over once to take my friends order and mine, and after we said we needed a couple minutes, did not come back. Every time we needed something, we had to hail their attention because they were too busy talking to their co-workers or talking to the usuals. I didn't feel welcome. read more

This is the perfect dive bar - a little seedy yet friendly, pool tables, a lot of kitsch at the bar, and good music. We were drawn in by the sounds of Garth Brooks rolling out, and I'm glad we ventured in. The bartender was great - low key and poured good, strong drinks. A local bar can be any type from shee-shee posh to a buddy's basement. The Sultana seems like a go-to bar when Route 66 was at the height of its cruising time. The outside look, the stairs up to and thru doors and bar that makes you think its been here since the days of when denim jeans were first sold. You want to sit at the bar. The real low key bartenders happy to get you drunk as long as you pay the bill and are walking to your hotel. Truly great place to take in some history while enjoying a drink or two plus have a Jell-O shot when in town. Service was outstanding and all drinks were perfect. Definitely one of the best Bloody Mary's ever enjoyed made from scratch. There is a small restaurant separate from bar in the back but Sultana does allow dogs in the bar which was excellent. We decided to go bar hopping on this trip in Williams. We knew the Sultana had a cool history with Bordellos and other neir do not wells at the turn of the century. It was Sunday and the place was booming with locals, (very nice people). Rachel our bartender was literally serving 50 people as one person and was killing it. She was amazing. The drinks were cheap, and were poured strong. She was awesome and funny. We loved her. We will always make it our favorite stop because of the great service she gave my friends and our wives. Great, usual stop on the way in to the Grand Canyon. A large group of us usually meet here in the afternoon and get a few strange looks at first but everyone has usually warmed up to us by the time we leave. Love this spot for a ridiculous memory I have with my girlfriend from about two years ago; Met random local guys and like idiots- trusted them to take us up into the woods for music and a bon-fire. I warned them but they didn't listen- car battery died and then no one could find us till sunrise. We were freezing in the woods with total strangers (some weirdo ones) for hours. A fun story probably not fit for Yelp but...Sultana is where is started and we will never ever forget that night. Drinks are stiff, service has been great all three times I've passed thru, good place to meet random locals and/or travelers (some doing cool stuff, like 5 day solo hikes thru the canyon- total bad ass). The Real Deal We were spending the weekend in Williams, visiting all our favorite regular spots, the Grand Canyon, Bearizona, and of course, shopping on Route 66. As we took our walk down Route 66, we came across Sultana Bar. I wasn't quite sure what to expect when we walked in to Sultana, however, it was a pleaseant surprise. The true name of Sultana Bar is the "World Famous Sultana Bar". What makes Sultana famous is that Sultana is the oldest bar in Arizona and is a true western dive but in a good way. Sultana has pool tables, bands, dance floor and friendly locals and bartenders. Sultana has a good selection of beer and spirits. The staff and locals are all friendly. This is my ideal type of a real deal dive bar. When I visit Williams again I'll definitely pay Sultana another visit. read more

Went to the Grand Canyon this weekend and stayed at my friend's cabin in the woods of Williams. Stopped by this little nugget on one evening, enjoying food from the adjacent/attached Singing Pig. Huge tables, a pay-to-play jukebox/photobooth in one, and locally brewed beer on tap? Talk about aca-awesome. Everything was super cheap, with pints of beer going for around $4. That being said I can't even imagine what happy hour would be like. Add on the fact that they advertise a variety of other totally nostalgic drink specials including Incredible Hulk and $4 shots of Goldshlager and you really have a gem of a bar. Not the liveliest of places (probably due to it being wintertime in a sleepy-town), but definitely a good time. read more

Considering your very limited options in this small town, this place is actually considered better and cleaner then many other places I've been too. Staff is friendly, the locals that frequent there are friendly. You can find places to hang out at in crowds or places to be alone in. As far as there ladies bathroom goes I've been to many bars with dirty bathrooms and this place was better than 80% of the places I've been too, as in cleaner. Maybe I just got lucky the times I went there but I'd like to believe it's always like that in there. There wasn't really much to do there, there wasn't dancing going on or anything else fun. However like I said compared to all the other places around town this one seemed to have the most action and there drinks didn't taste bad at all. I am worshiper of all things dive-bar: the patrons, the attitude, the faint smell of death. So it was a special treat to run into a place like Sultana Bar while passing through the town of Williams. I had looked up places to wet the whistle before getting in and somehow Sultana got past my research which rules because it means the place is that much more wicked for being off the grid (well mine anyway). When I was there I saw a lot of travelers mingling with locals. One foreign girl (german? dutch? something like that) even drunkenly kissed a local old man on the lips before leaving. He made an impression. Bartender was nice and approachable. A man of few words which I appreciated. Had some good LOCAL AZ beers (Kilt Lifter was great). Swooned at the mounted animals on the wall. This reminds me of the bars in the midwest. All locals and the bartender knew everyone. We stopped in on a Saturday night while they were having a benefit for someone in town. $5 dinner??? Hamburger, potato salad, macaroni salad and a bag of chips??? HELL IM IN!! They were even raffling off a shotgun that night, HELL IM IN FOR THAT TOO!!! This is awesome!!!
