    Disrepair and mold in bathroom
    Heather W.

Horrible experience. More than outdated, mold on bathroom wallpaper and in shower. Although sink and sheets appeared clean, carpet and bathroom floor dirty, couch and two chairs so filthy didn't want to put suitcases down. Charged for room before we got keys, felt stuck because of late check in and already paid. Next time would leave with or without a refund. Paid $200 and wouldn't expect to pay $40/night for this level of disgust. I never write reviews but I want to spare others from having this horrible experience.

Perfect location. A little "girly" with all the flower wall paper and bed spreads. Price was high during summer.

Summerland Room #5…read more Pro: -ample parking -Room size is decent compared to other hotels. It as fireplace and an AC system window unit. (It is pretty loud though. Had to turn it on in short bursts because of how loud it was.) -Mini fridge gets drinks nice and cold (very rare these days) Pillows are VERY soft but hold their shape Cons: -Right next to the freeway. I wish I had listened to other reviews and stayed somewhere else. It was loud the entire time but the hotel did provide complimentary ear plugs. And there is a train that comes by that is even louder. -Paid for an Oceanfront View but in the pictures you'll see that from the patio, those hedges are too high for an unobstructed view of the ocean so try to get a balcony room for a better view. -No WIFI -Rooms could use a refresh. They are a bit dated. *I would probably give this hotel a rating closer to 3.5 but the husband and I were the only guests this day so it was nice of the staff to still put out the complimentary wine and snacks for us. Also the next morning the chef pretty much just made breakfast for us and it was tasty.

They also have nice extras like complementary breakfast, afternoon happy hour (wine and cheese and crackers) and later dessert, as long as you book directly on their website. Walking distance to all the cute boutiques Cafés and shops in Summerland. It is very close to the freeway, and you hear the freeway noise throughout, but they have a white sound machine playing in the room, which was actually very thoughtful. They have a nice Jacuzzi too. Totally recommend and will return!

The accomodations there were absolutely gorgeous. I actually can't wait for a reason to go back again soon. DETAILS... This was the perfect place a get-away weekend with my husband. The garden and suites are all beautifully arranged on the property, the garden had a beautiful layout, the pool and jacuzzi were amazing (seriously amazing), and our dog had just as much fun as we did. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. The suite was clean, the TV had an HDMI cable that we were able to hook our computer up to to watch Netflix, the bed was very comfy and clean, and bathroom was very clean, and the overall space was exactly what we were looking for. There are enough parking spots for all of the guests, and all of the guests were very low-key and pleasant to be around. Although all of the suites were rented out we actually barely ran into everyone and it felt as if we had the entire area to ourselves. I think one of the biggest perks on top of all these amenities is that our dog was allowed to enjoy the place just as much as we were. We are looking forward to another reason to take a trip up to Santa Barbara/Montecito area so we can stay here again! I would definitely recommend this place.

It is not, however, somewhere I would personally recommend unless you are mainly looking for a place to crash. We booked a room over the phone the same day we arrived and were happy to receive a discount, which brought the total to just over $300 after fees. Having been away from Santa Barbara for many years, we were excited to have a restful and celebratory evening and trusted the internet's recommendation of this place. The service was nice enough when we arrived, but the lack of amenities and the quality of the bed and pillows were a real letdown. I wish I had called the other hotels nearby to ask about their rates before committing, but we were on a road trip and didn't have the patience. I typically stay at four-star hotels, although my expectations were nowhere near a four-star experience here. I simply assumed it would be comparable to other three-star establishments that identify as "Inns" in the area. Once we checked in and realized there was no pool, restaurant, bar, help with bags, or much in the way of amenities beyond free pastries and coffee, it became clear that we had not made the right choice for what we wanted. We were weary from travel though and didn't want to fight to leave so we stayed. Our room was modern and clean, but it faced and was right above aneighboring parking lot, and that combined with the street noise, was not especially conducive to rest. The AC unit also made a remarkable amount of noise. It did not bother me too much, but for light sleepers it could be a challenge. The best parts were the exterior, which feels very Santa Barbara, the free parking, and the complimentary pastries at breakfast. That said, there are several inns and hotels around the same rate, or sometimes only $50-$80 more after fees and parking, that offer on-property bars, restaurants, pools, and amenities I had assumed were fairly standard at a $300-a-night inn or hotel, including things as simple as Q-tips and comfortable pillows, and bathroom doors which actually insulate your private moments from the rest of the room. We should have done more research beforehand and noticed that this place did not have a pool or any facilities beyond a vending machine. However, it appeared in online results alongside full-service hotels rather than motels, so I expected a little more. My primary complaint is the bed and pillows. The pillows were barely more than bags filled with an extremely lightweight, shapeless foam material, and the mattress sank so deeply that the bed felt more like a nice pull-out couch than a proper hotel bed. The pillows reminded me of what I bought at Target for $11 before moving into my college dorm room. Fine in a motel for $150/ night, disappointing for twice that. The free parking seems to be a major draw, and it is certainly convenient, but I would still encourage people to explore other options if they have an extra $50-$80 to spend and care about the quality of the room where they spend the night. With one exception, the nearest restaurants and bars are about a 10-15-minute walk away. State Street is at least a 12-minute, 0.6-mile walk, while many other inns and hotels in the area have bars and food on the property or immediately nearby. The beach is technically one block away, although this property is toward the far end of it rather than near the main activity. We ended up ubering from state street back to the hotel. I think that if you are traveling with children, do not need many hotel amenities, or are really just looking for somewhere clean and convenient to sleep, this is a perfectly fine spot. I also should have done more research beforehand, and I cannot blame the property for amenities it never claimed to offer. Still, I do think its surprisingly glowing online reputation creates expectations that the actual experience does not truly meet. In my opinion i would describe this place as a nice, well-kept two-star inn /motel, and if that is what you are looking for, it could be a lovely choice. Many other guests were happy and that is certainly worth something.

There is a table right at the window so you can enjoy dining/reading/sitting with an incredible and private VIEW! The rooms are SUPER cute! Yes, the furniture is old. Yes, it looks like grandma's house. But from someone who has stayed in luxury resorts most of the time, these charming and timeless rooms have a special place in my heart. I'm not even sure if this makes sense, but the ambiance welcomes you with open arms and makes you feel right at home. It truly feels like I came to grandmas house. It feels so familiar and I know for a fact, staying here is healing my inner child each time. We all know the views are absolutely incredible-- I mean... breakfast buffet overlooking the cliffs AND you can watch surfers and dolphins in the distance while you enjoy your food? Can't get better than that. You can go visit the shore during low tide or walk over to the pier that leads to an island! This hotel is tucked away from the city and I absolutely love the seclusion. My husband used a third-party to book this site like we usually do and have never had trouble. We arrived in Montecito a little early decided to get some lunch at the honor bar, which was excellent, and then check in. We ended up arriving exactly at 4 o'clock to check in and my husband was informed that because we booked it through a third-party site we would have to pay the tourism fee or something like that for $47 additional bringing the hotel room up to $400. And then we would also have to put a $200 hold on our card for incidentals, but the way it was handled was not necessarily unprofessional, but it was uncomfortable. We got everything worked out and started to head to our room on the second floor. The stairs are a little bit steep in rise probably because they are old. The hotel was built in the 20s I believe by Charlie Chaplin, which you wouldn't know about unless you did your own research. I didn't notice anything in the rooms or downstairs letting us know that. And that's actually something that I would have enjoyed seeing on the walls in the hotel rooms, some portraits of Charlie Chaplin maybe some movie stills? We decided to use the elevator which I think is original to the building of course with some safety upgrades. The room was somewhat small, reminding me of rooms in Italy. And it smelled really musty. Which I'm sure is normal for a building of that age. The hotel did not appear to be booked and so I was disappointed with the room that we received (see our photo of our view.) The bathroom was a tiny with a minuscule bookcase to place your items on. Again, I'm sure there is nothing they can do anything about because of the age of the building, I could not get the shower to fully work. The water came out halfway through the showerhead and halfway through the faucet. The water is very soft so it took forever to rinse my hair. Valet parking is included whether you want it or not. And there are five self parking spots. There are bicycles that I believe you can check out. I'm not sure if there's a fee for them. It seemed like they were offered for free, but I'm not really sure.
