What a gem. I've traveled between Vancouver & the Rockies many times and only just learned of this…read moreplace. Sleep in a caboose? Heck yes! We were in Kamloops looking online for a place to spend the night and we found the rate quite enticing, considering it's the same rate as some of the budget hotels just off the hwy. This location is just off the hwy near Chase. We reserved over the phone and headed straight over. It was nice to stay on the lakefront and we even built a campfire! Blaire is the lovely woman who runs it, she is a great host to chat with & makes killer pancakes! This is an HI hostel so if you have a membership you get a discount. We traveled during the pandemic so lucky for us we had a whole caboose to ourselves - we are a couple. Normally they sleep up to 6 (there are 4 cabooses) dorm style. There are 3 bunks in each (well ours anyways), kitchen, toilet and sink, large lockers, sitting area, and each caboose has it's own outdoor picnic table & bbq. The bunk bed is a very comfy single size mattress. I had a great sleep! Showers are in a building close by. You can pay a bit extra for pancake breakfast with coffee or tea, well worth it! Stay here for a unique experience!
This hostel is also known as hi hostel shuswap lake…read more A hostel you will only find in canada: A canadian train wagon (cabooses used until 1967 for rail staff to switch tracks for trains). The trainwagon is now used as dorm with view of the lake. What i liked: - definitely unique accomodation (kids will love it) - view over the lake - included is use of the canadian canoe - basic, very good priced accomodation - friendly and helpful staff ( even though i arrived well before check in time, i still could check in and got loads of tips). Even though the highway is next to the hostel, it did not really bother me. I slept very well. Tip: you will need a car to get here. It is idealy located between whistler and the rocky mountains, so good stop over on a roadtrip Very reasonable pricing.

All of the roads but one to get to the hotel were closed for construction. This was not noted…read moreduring the time of booking nor when the confirmation was done the night before. When I was finally able to get through on the one road available for local use only, I found that the only parking lot available was full with homeless people camped out on the sidewalk. Not going to drag a suitcase down the street in unsafe conditions from blocks away. Booked on Expedia.com and used credit I had there. Cancellation/refund policy stated no refunds if the reservation wasn't canceled by midnight the night before. I wasn't aware of the conditions of the roads nor neighborhood before I was in town so seems pretty unfair. Called the hotel to request a refund and can't reach anyone so will be working with Expedia on this. The hotel also seems to be rundown and not kept up, definitely not what one would expect from a Wyndham owned property.

It's located downtown Kamloops. Parking is somewhat limited, just one strip close to the hotel but they have another parking spot maybe 2 blocks away. If you are like me, just passing thru and have my luggages in the car, consider bringing them down first then park your car to the distant parking spot. I was not comfortable leaving my stuff in the car and parked far away. The staff was friendly. Checkin in and out was fast and effortless. The elevator was cramped almost only for 1-2 people. It was ok in my situation. The room was clean, and comfortable. I was on the fifth floor and can see around downtown. Didn't have to wait a long time for the elevators when going out or back to my room. There was a complimentary drink, either wine or beer, when I checked in. The bar was not full and I was told there was a hockey game playing nearby. Vancouver and Calgary game was on the big screen when I came in. Breakfast was sausage, bacon, potatoes, eggs, coffee. Hot meal is always welcome!
Took this in the morning. Drink with your breakfast? Lol!

Stayed at the Samesun during a road trip to several ski resorts in the area and stayed here for one…read morenight before a great day skiing at Silver Star. The Samesun is about a 5 min walk from the main village and is pretty much ski in/ski out. The Hostel itself is a long multi-storied building with many dorm rooms. There was one lot of bathrooms for each sex on each floor but it was never busy enough for me to ever wait although its a fair walk from one end to the other. The whole basement of the Hostel is one big common area that has plenty of room for people to cook their free DIY Pancake Breakfast and just chill out. This Hostel does get a lot of staff from different businesses living here but it was still pretty quiet the night we were there. Overall, this is a pretty awesome, colourful option that is super budget friendly and one of the most convenient places to stay on the mountain.
