I hadn't been to Sunberry in more years than I can remember until a recent work meeting booked us for dinner there. I was skeptical - the Sunberry I remember was not entirely appropriate for a seat-down meal for 30+ people, but I went along for the ride. Imagine my surprise when I walked in and saw that it was completely different, to the point where I had to check old Yelp reviews to confirm this was the same place I was thinking of! We ordered just about everything on the menu and while it was all good, nothing was great. It would be a solidly reliable lunch spot if I worked in the area but it was not the best choice for a work dinner - it got very loud and very crowded, making it hard to share apps around the tables. Off of Trumbull, quiet and a little out of the way. The brick walkway and enclosed area create an alcove that feels like you left downtown Hartford in an almost Diagon Ally way. The space isn't large, but well organized and upscale approachable. The bar area is long and allows for added dining space, the wait staff were friendly and attentive. While our dining was based on the app menu, the food being delivered to tables looked good and plates being cleared were all empty. Ordering mussels on a Sunday afternoon is often seen as a brave choice as freshness matters. Based on the amount of orders we saw around us, it was a good decision. They were light, fresh and in a broth that was complimentary without overpowering. In a city whose food scene seems to be dominated by one restaurant group, this is a fresh fusion take that offers an exciting alternative and worth a visit. I was in downtown Hartford earlier today after an appointment. I stopped in here and selected a sandwich to bring home for lunch. The sandwich was good, but not worth the high price they charged. The side salad was 99% greens, and five small slivers of parmesan cheese. I asked about the salad and was told tomato and onion would be in the sald. Reader there was no tomato or onion. Our daughter raved about this place so we attempted to come on Friday and Saturday but it was fully booked (probably because of games at UConn?), so we got a reservation for 5 p.m. tonight, one hour before closing. We ordered the veggie fried dumplings, the tonkotsu ramen and the miso ramen with kimchi. All of it was piping hot and delicious, particularly satisfying on a chilly rainy evening like tonight. My friends and I went to brunch after the St. Patty's Day Parade, and we loved the vibes as soon as we went in. The seating and bar looked beautiful, and the waiters and bartenders were really attentive. The food I got tasted great, and I loved the sandwich alongside the drinks. My one complaint honestly was there was only one bathroom: for both men and women to use. This meant the line to get into there was bigger than the line to get seated. I hope that in the future they can renovate a bit to add another bathroom but otherwise I had a great time here! read more

I would definitely recommend this spot for a drink! Stopped in after visiting The Wadsworth with a friend. I haven't been in post-renovation but always caught a glimpse when on Pratt, and they did a great job. I think their drinks are fun! We tried the Bettlejuice, espresso, and dragons egg martinis. The charcoal salt rim for the Bettlejuice was unique and definitely complemented the drink. I loved the little bubble on top of the dragons egg, definitely quirky and cute. I've tried multiple occasions for food, most recently being the bibimbap, it just doesn't ever hit for me. Service is friendly. read more

My sister and I went here for a quick bite to eat before a Uconn game. We walked in and were immediately greeted by the kind bartender. He asked if we had a reservation which we did not but told us to wait a few minutes and than provided us with the option of a small table or the bar. We chose to sit at the bar because we were only in there for a few drinks and a meal. We ended up ordering a peanut butter Destresso Martini and Destresso Martini with Dulce de Leche. Both drinks were phenomenal and strong. The Dulce was definitely sweet but made so well. We ordered the Toyko Rice Bowl which was so filling and delicious. The rice was savory, the spam was cooked well and the eggs were to perfection. It was such a simply but filling meal that we split. Had a good experience but they recommended we get a lychee Margarita and we sent it back (it was actually the worst drink any of us have ever tasted) and they still charged for it. Automatic 20% gratuity added to a party of 4... though it indicated this was for parties of 5 or more. We are good tippers but this was off putting. Overall, I'm happy I got to support this business on Pratt Street! I was craving some Asian food, and so I was happy to see different noodle and rice options here. I ended up with the bulgogi with udon noodles. While it was a bit soupy because of the stir fry sauces, it was still good! I liked my lychee margarita a lot-- and it was strong. I wasn't as big of a fan for the speciality cocktail for October, namely the beetle juice cocktail. Sigh. It had potential but not so sure if it really needed the egg white? It's quite the vibe! We walked in and was offered a high table towards the rear and we decided to migrate to the bar for a livelier experience. We had direct interaction with Moriah who was such an amazing host to us! She is the bar manager there. Make sure to look for her and her awesome drink concoctions! She's super friendly and I loved conversing with her about her experiences at the restaurant and all the inspirations she takes from to make those drinks. The food is never short of amazing either!! It's as I remember it. Mussels, and fried dumplings to start. The mussels didn't taste fishy at all and paired well with alcohol. I tried the chocolate experience which was served with literally a piece of chocolate. It changes the flavor completely. Sake served hot and ended it all with some potato croquettes. Good atmosphere but I got severe food poisoning. I'll start with the positive: The interior looks awesome. I had Sunberry when they opened many years ago, when it was more like a to-go/Subway vibe. To see such a drastic change, I would never think it was the same place. It's also not too pricey. Items on the menu don't run over $20. Unfortunately, I got really sick after eating here last night. I got the Korean Fried Chicken, my friend did as well (one order of the soy garlic, the other was the hot flavor). It was good in terms of taste. $14. Let me preface by saying I can eat food that's left out for days, I'll eat expired food, etc. I don't get sick from food. So, for me to spend the night on the toilet followed by the afternoon shitting my brains out, it wasn't a coincidence. I have a strong stomach. My friends who also ate the wings had diarrhea as well. One of my friends mentioned her partner got sick from eating here in the past. I don't like to write bad reviews, I really don't. But I got food poisoning. Started with a chicken appetizer with a honey mustard sauce - that was good too (no photo). If you have an option, don't order the fries with your meal. As an avid fan of Korean and Japanese food, this place has been on my list for awhile. I found out from other reviews that it was (relatively) recently renovated, and I enjoyed the interior design and ambience. It was very dim and cozy in a sense. There is no parking lot because this is on Pratt Street, so the only options are street and garage. Onto the dining experience - I thought the service was attentive and quick. I got the soy garlic Korean fried chicken and I enjoyed it, though it is quite different than that of Bonchon's. This one is much sweeter and reminds me of the honey chicken I used to get from the mall growing up but in a good way. It was surprisingly crispy on the outside despite being drenched in the sauce. There are also some spicy peppers so that's something to keep in mind if you can't handle spice at all. This restaurant was on the pricier side and I wasn't amazed by any of the food I tried (which included the miso soup, stir fry, and bibimbap), but I think it's worth trying. read more

This place was recently renovated and it's absolutely like nothing before. It's now a sit down place (albeit with a strong takeout game). It feels modern and fresh with some nice outdoor seating right on the pedestrian Pratt street. It's now more focused on its terrific Korean and ramen dishes (though they still have burgers on the menu too that looked really good). I got a bibimbap at the bar. It was chock full of everything you'd expect: spicy pork, rice, lots of veggies and an egg over easy. It comes with some teriyaki sauce and hot sauce as well. This dish was super tasty and fresh. It wasn't bogged down by extra sauce like some places. Just let the ingredients shine. My only suggestion is that I like a super hot stone bowl instead of a merely warmed one. But that's an easy fix and a personal preference. Service was good yuck and attentive and really friendly. They're going to be here for a while. We made reservations through RESY and upon arriving there were no tables ready, which wasn't a huge deal...but they didn't even take my name despite telling them I had made a reservation. We ordered KFC, a drink, and ramen. The drink was never delivered, but put on the bill (which they removed with no issue). The fried chicken was good. The curry ramen had a good flavor. I was not a fan of the Tonkatsu and felt like there could have been more veggies added. After just finishing our food and not even being there an hour we were told "no rush, but there is another reservation waiting." The staff here are always so incredibly nice and check on us often! We love getting the ramen here, but I'm partial to the shabu shabu! There's three sets you can get: veggie, seafood, and meat. I've recently tried the seafood option and WOW it came with so much! I had giant shrimp, mussels, and even abalone! A MUST have is their soy garlic chicken. That sauce is delicious and that chicken is so crispy! We love and appreciate how clean the whole place is too! You can tell the team works hard and is proud of the place they work! 10/10 service and food. I've dined in 3 times in the past 5 months and I've gotten take out twice. The food is just as tasty when getting takeout as it is when eating in. I love the cozy feel of the restaurant, it's not huge inside but there's enough space to not feel boxed in. The Korean fried chicken wings are the best I've had! (Bonchon cannot compare). The inside was nice and cozy and all the windows were open since it was such a nice day. We sat right at the bar and were greeted and served immediately.
