I'm here every 6 months to get magic done on my hair by Kacie and the incredible team she's meticulously hired and trained herself which includes Misa who I see every few months for a trim. I'm in awe of the powerhouse of assistants she's training up and the other stylists in the shop who've graduated from assistant to stylists with their own chair. I can't express how much I appreciate this salon and its flexibility. I got a notification about my appt two days prior and immediately texted asking if I could switch days knowing it could not happen but thankfully it did! I wasn't worried if it didn't because Kacie and her team are the most accommodating I've come across and I knew it would work out even if it meant having to push my appointment back. Life happens! And its really nice to have a salon that understands that. Came in for my usual root touch up and Kacie had two assistants helping her with my hair. Her most recent hire, Sue, offered to give me a blow out because she loves doing them. What a blessing! I've never had a blow out done before and I felt so special having someone who enjoyed doing it work on it for me. You could tell in the time Sue took that she meant it and even more so when she finally pulled the rollers out. I left absolutely head over heels in love with my hair and the blow out styling. TLDR; if you have a work emergency mid-service, the stylist will not have the integrity to finish the work properly, even when it's 3 hours early within the 6 hours she set for herself. This salon has a reputation for saying what you want is unachievable and charging hefty prices. Do better. -- I had been eyeing this salon for years since I lived in San Jose 8 years ago. I followed every stylist from this salon on IG and dreamt of one day getting for the ethereal results the photos on IG boasted. I finally made the jump to go in February 2026 despite having moved to San Bruno atp. I absolutely regret it. I wasn't going to make a review but it's gotten so bad (orange, white & yellow in diff places) within 2 months. After multiple conversations with friends (and some professional hair stylists), I learned I was swindled here, especially given the high price this unscrupulous salon charges. At the start of the session, Thao let me know the price was $600 which I was ok with to secure a dreamy result I've seen for so many years of IG following. She also told me we would be there for SIX hours. I felt shocked since I've never experienced that with hair highlighting before but I reasoned to myself that was how they achieved those beautiful results online. Once Thao said my inspo photo (low lights) from her very own IG wasn't possible, I simply wanted a cooler brown, as long as it isn't warm toned w/ grey coverage. She had me sign a waiver contract that results aren't guaranteed. Red flag #1. After 2.5 hours with the bleach foils in, I get an emergency work call. I panic because it has never happened before. I'm stress sweating so I ask Thao if I could leave for an hour with the foils in. I didn't care if I showed up to the work emergency like that. She said no because the bleach would burn through my hair so she quickly started removing them. After she washes my hair with the iciest water I've ever been washed in at a professional salon, (she must've seen me shivering or in pain because she said "cold is better for your hair" unprompted)... Then she starts mixing the next step and I ask "is my hair ready??" And she said it was ready to which I asked "are you sure???" to double confirm because that didn't make sense since we were only roughly 2 hour 45 minutes into my appointment. Worried about the end result, I tell her I can come back in an hour or less. She says that I just wouldn't get styled. And I say "why, if I can I come back for that." She responds that she wouldn't be there anymore which also didn't make sense because it would only be 4 hours into the supposed 6 hour appointment she said it would be. Then I get a call that a coworker will cover the emergency so I let Thao know expeditiously. I was so relieved. Then she started toning my hair anyway! It was like she checked out of the job because she had someone else finish blow drying my hair. Thao barely curled my hair. My sister asked "why didn't they style your hair afterwards?" when I called her crying on FT. I think Thao could tell I was unhappy because I was totally quiet when she started saying "see it looks so good." She didn't even sound convinced herself tbh. I was out the door in THREE hours exactly with over $600 out of my pocket and an ugly result. Other stylists I've asked about this unhappy situation, said she should have started over with the foils and continued her work. Instead Thao decided to earn her $600+ in half the time SHE set at my hair's expense. I regret driving so far for such terrible service and results. She still had the audacity to say she saved me the cost of covering greys (when she missed the roots of the grey spot at my right forehead) by not charging the extra ~$200 for it. See the photo evidence. I'm not just a disgruntled client who is being unreasonable. My hair turned out terrible: a demarcation of two different colors visible, warm toned, missed an entire grey root spot, dry and damaged! My best friend who is a nurse and isn't a professional hair stylist fixed my hair 2 months after my visit to this salon. I was ecstatic with the result my best friend achieved so I'm not a difficult person to please. P.S. Pls don't bother getting the K18 spray they offer before the service. That entire bottle costs professional hair stylists roughly $98 and she sprayed it max 3-4 times on my hair for an extra $50! So I paid for half the bottle and it barely even touched my hair. My hair didn't get mildly damp, still dry! That's scammy behavior. Explains why my hair still came out damaged. The steep prices don't match the quality of customer service. Like another reviewer said, it's a total gamble with your hair here. Either you hit the jackpot or you're the unlucky client who gets shoo'ed away unhappy. Maybe they don't know how to handle non Asian hair? Based on the Yelp owner responses seen here, the owner Kacie will prob respond to blame my work emergency to justify her employee's lack of moral principles. read more

I had my second appointment with Kacie at Sunkissed Salon, (first time was only a hair cut in Feb) it was an amazing experience from start to finish! I came in bright and early at 7:00 a.m. as her first client, and she made sure we got our morning coffee fix before getting started. I came in with inspo pics and she told me what processes I would need to achieve that - babylights, base break, and an optional K18 treatment. Kacie worked her magic with Amy's assistance. Before starting, Kacie thoroughly explained the pricing and the went over what I should expect for future maintenance appointments, so there were no surprises at checkout. I really appreciated the transparency. I'm usually more of a blowout girl, but my hair was styled with curls so Kacie could make sure all the dimension and placement looked perfect before I left. It was clear how much attention she puts into her work. I also chose to add the K18 treatment, and I'm so glad I did. Even after bleaching, my hair feels incredibly soft, healthy, and not over-processed. The entire experience was professional, welcoming, and relaxing. I no longer live in SJ but the commute from SF is definitely worth it considering the quality the girls put into their work. I usually come to the salon twice a year and always leave a happy client. The stylists here at Sunkissed are always very honest when it comes to achieving what you want and what to expect out of it. I came in with warm tones and my hair was thinning out since it had been a while since I last got it done, but as always, I was very happy with how my hair came out. I typically go for dark tones since I honestly don't see myself being blonde again, and the quality each time says a lot itself. I've had previous experiences at other places where my hair came out super fried and damaged, but I love how at Sunkissed they always ensure to keep your hair healthy even if it's not the anticipated color you're aiming for. They are very thorough and are always asking detailed questions on how you want your hair to look not just with the color, but with the length and style as well. As always, My and honestly all of the other stylists here were very knowledgeable throughout the process and it's always great seeing them again as getting your hair done can be very time consuming. To see her so successful today makes me proud, and I really had no idea she was so good at what she does until I finally decided to go to her. I got babylights & am more than happy with my results :) I decided to switch up my hair & went darker + got a haircut with Misa's complimentary haircut when booking babylights promo. The owner Kacie did my hair and I knew going in the service would be expensive. I ended up paying $575 for babylights, $50 for a conditioning treatment, and tip equaling out to $718. I was given a consent/contract to sign prior to starting which is a first for me. Maybe people don't want to pay up at the end?? I think it's ok to be expensive if you can stand behind your work and provide quality. I left the salon happy with my hair color & it matched the photos I showed her. Fast forward 3 weeks I still do like the color. However, my hair looks like dead grass. When I come out of the shower it's just sooo dry and tangled, even after I've done a deep conditioning treatment, sprayed in leave in conditioner, added some hair oil, it still looks like tumbleweed when straight. I need to always have it curled or wavy to have it look like it's in decent condition. I've had my hair balayaged and highlighted many times in my life. I've never had results like this before. In the past, I've gone from black to light brown in a day & my hair is still soft and manageable. Kacie was a very lovely person while doing my hair. She owns a cute salon that's decorated nicely. What bugs me is when I told her that my hair looks like dead grass, she took no accountability. Told me to go try K18. That my hair was "damaged and sensitive to begin with according to my contract." Actually I hadn't dyed my hair professionally for 3 years prior to this. It's naturally pitch black and I just dye it dark brown myself so it's not so dark. She claimed that "each time you dye your hair it's different. Best of luck!" Basically, washing her hands of me and it's not her problem. Very surprising reaction coming from the store owner. You would think they would want to evolve, grow, and make sure you leave their salon happy. That's the typical response from majority owners of any business that wants to thrive and do well. I think the best kinds of people in the beauty industry are ones who are willing to correct/help you rather than deny/blame. I never asked for a refund. That's not what I wanted. I wanted her to give me suggestions on what could have gone wrong or offer to help improve the condition of my hair. That's how you get loyal clients that come back to you again and again. When you deny, there's just no where to go from there. Why would you continually pay someone $700 who is not willing to work with you?? So I've purchased K18 which was a hefty $75 for a small 50 ml bottle. I've been doing Olaplex treatments each time I shampoo my hair. Purchased leave in conditioners and a bunch of other stuff. It's slowly getting better. But this is a first for me. To have to do soo much after care to revive my hair after getting it done professionally. read more

In my first visit (about a year ago), I was a little nervous, especially as I had previously gotten it colored at a different salon with a result that I didn't love. KACIEEEEEE T___T You absolute QUEEN! I had gone to Sunkissed awhile back, but never had Kacie do my hair up until now. I thought I'd treat myself after being a cavewoman for 1.5 years of not touching up my hair due to the pandemic. Normally, I would ask to be as light as possible, and as ash as possible. This time, I asked for a warmer brown color. Kacie was very upfront and told me that because I have Asian hair, it is naturally darker and will look orange/brassy if we tried to emulate the pictures I showed her. She told me she can make me a beige, which at that point, I just let her take the wheel. 3.5 hrs later, I was IN LOVE with my results!!! I had forgotten how it felt to feel like myself again!!! I knew I could trust in her, and she exceeded my expectations. One thing I really appreciated about this team is that they were all so supportive of each other, complimenting each other's work as they worked on different clients, etc. I also really appreciated that Kacie is very candid and upfront about what she can do for you. She told me that she would not do something to a client's hair if she felt that their hair couldn't take it, and that screamed integrity to me. Not only was Kacie an absolute wizard at her job, she is also incredibly personable. It was clear that she has a genuine relationship with her clients (whom I witnessed coming in after me) from the way they interacted, and I can tell that they trust her and feel comfortable with her. I definitely will be coming to Kacie from here on out forever and ever! *COVID protocol - the salon was very COVID safe. They have you sit on a plastic covering that will be moved around with you as you change stations during your appointment, and I thought that was very cool. I initially had my hair highlighted here with Kacie. I Went back for toning and because Kacie does not do toning herself, had to do it with Thao. First, she has very long nails so she could not wash my hair properly and also scratched my neck painfully! Second, they charge you if you arrive late to your appointment, but I had to wait half an hour past my appointment time before she gets there! Then she did a really poor job and literally disappeared most of the highlights I had. After spending more than a grand, my hair is back to plain black! Worst thing is that she did not accept her responsibility and said that if you curl your hair you can see it! Still couldn't see it! Then she said your hair grew that's why you don't see the highlights anymore!I had my highlight when I walked in! *** This part is to address business owner's comment to my review: Hi Kacie, Thank you for taking the time to respond to my review. A few things: 1) obviously, you are not the first one I go to for highlighting and I know I cannot go lighter with just toning and I did NOT ask for a lighter tone either, and definitely not blonde!! Making my hair this much darker (almost black) was simply because you guys probably don't know your job very well! 2) about the pricing, I think if people read your recent reviews, they'll get a sense of how you'd like to overcharge apparently everyone has more hair than you expect!! 3) way to go regarding customer service for a business owner!! I was reading some of your recent reviews (wish I had done it before my visit) and apparently your mindset towards customers when they are not happy with your work is that "if you don't want it, GO"! No wonder why you have been getting so many 1 star reviews recently mostly from people complaining about how they were treated! 4) you said based on my Yelp reviews "negativity is a recurrent theme for me". I wish instead of focusing on my Yelp, you'd focus on your business reviews. Valerie was nice and easy to talk to. She answered all the questions I had and what end result to expect for my babylights (I came in with a slightly angled long bob and grown out balayage). Throughout the appointment, she explained what she was doing and checked in with me. I found Thu through a friend who led me to her Instagram page. I texted the salon to book with Thu and was able to get an appointment about 3 weeks after contacting her. I showed her a photo of the color I wanted to achieve (I thought it was through balayage but turns out it was babylights). Upon visit, Thu let me know that the color I wanted (pretty blonde) would take multiple sessions to achieve, but she would try her best to lighten my hair as much as possible. For context, my natural hair color is very black and pretty thick for an Asian. I had come in with a warm balayage from almost 1.5 years ago, but a lot of my natural hair had grown out. I sat in the salon for a long time as expected, since with my hair type, it was taking a lot of product and time to lighten. While I was there though, Thu kept me good company and answered a ton of questions I had about hair care! After the coloring of my hair, Thu also gave me a trim. The initial color of my hair when my session was done was a cool toned grey color, as shown in the photo attached. It's been a few weeks now, and it's lightened a bit and warmed up to more of blonde babylights. I've been using blue shampoo to keep it as cool toned as possible though. This salon is definitely one of the more lavish salons I've been to in the Bay Area, and the pricing of their services reflects it. However, I had a very professional and comfortable experience here, and I plan to come back for a second session in a few months to lighten my hair further! read more

This review is for Erika! I did extensive research into Bay Area salons who knew how to work with my jet-black, thick, virgin Asian hair - and Erika at Sunkissed Salon beyond exceeded my expectations! We thoroughly discussed my goals and what she could deliver while maintaining the integrity of my hair. We decided on babylights ($450-$600) in order to achieve a dimensional look that was natural but still looked like something was done. My color vision was kind of all over, so she suggested "ash brown". I was hesitant about getting an "ashy" color as someone with warm-toned skin (I wanted to avoid a washed out gray look) but she reassured me that getting an ash tone meant more of a neutral finish. So as my hair became more warm-toned with washing, it would be the right amount of warmth. And if I wanted it lighter, I could always come back in 6 months. Once I saw the results, I couldn't have been more in love! From color to cut (thank you Thao for the layers and bang trim!! ) and styling, the entire process was so relaxing and full of fun conversation. You can even see from the photos how healthy and shiny my hair still is, and she gave me tips on how to take care of my new hair.
