It's so hard to rate a place when some aspects are great and others aren't.
The good. The resort is beautiful! Great beaches and pool and all the dining areas and the spa are great. I love my room, which is over the water and has a glass bottomed floor. I watch the fish all the time when in the room.
The bad. The food and service. We've eaten at the Island Garden for lunch and dinner and the food is mediocre at best. Actually the chicken sandwich at lunch was lousy and the bolognese at dinner was bland. We waited close to an hour for food both times and we were one of two occupied tables.
They have a bar there, but aren't great at making mixed drinks. Their wine selection isn't great so I ended up not drinking much on this trip.
Our experience at the Japanese
Restaurant was worse. They sent us a message that we needed to pre-order food because they were out of quite a few things. We wanted teppenyaki so we ordered chicken and steak. Nothing comes with it so we added some rice. Never experienced that in a Japanese restaurant. Anyway, the beef was so fatty there wasn't much to eat and the chicken was so overcooked it was dry and chewy. He did put on a show while cooking it, but definitely a bad experience.
The Mangrove has a breakfast buffet which is nice. More geared to Asian foods, but they cook eggs any way you like.
We ordered a burger and fries at the pool which was decent but again took over an hour to get to us when there are hardly any guests.
All in all, I wanted the experience of an over water bungalow and that was fantastic. Oops, except for the hot tub which was so dirty I wouldn't use it. read more
