Let me first start by saying that I like Sunmerry Bakery's product as a whole generally and have been coming here for years. It advertises itself as a more premium pastry brand and I don't mind paying a little more for quality pastries. For this last trip, it sorta fallen off a cliff for me. I got their cream puffs this past weekend and I was gravely disappointed. It had labeled a use date of 7/14/26 when I bought it on 7/11/26. I tried it with my wife today on 7/13/26 and the cream tasted sour... Wait, what? How??? Why??? We wondered whether it was a "new" flavor or something and realized that no, this just went bad. Granted that you are paying $12 for 6 of these, for $2 each puff this is not really acceptable at all. Sure, I called the store and they refunded me this purchase. By letting them know that they should probably throw away the rest of this batch, will this happen? The store clerk told me so, but who knows? The fact that you have to question premium stores really puts a sour taste in your mouth. It does make you wonder whether to come by again in the future or not. Surprisingly, I like this place! Been reading about the other reviews here and I am a bit hesistant to try it but it exceeded my expectations. We came around 1pm and there are a lot of breads available, and they all look good so got a couple. We also tried the coffee and salted cream black tea and it was good! Ofcourse we got the Portugese Egg tart which is just a dollar and the Napoleon Egg tart $1.49 each and I must say it's both good for it's price, it's not too sweet but still creamy. Service is good too, they were fast and polite. I saw that they have cakes too, which I think are affordable for the price and I saw a lot of people buying their BOGO drinks. Randomly in the area and decided to walk in. I remember this place as being somewhat popular but when we walked in it was dead and there were hardly any bread on the shelves with most of them bare. The price per bread seemed a little higher than most as well. We ended up getting some egg tarts that were on special. While some of the staff was friendly, the one whom checked us out seemed like he didn't want to be there. After ordering he packaged up the egg tarts and placed it on the opposite side of the table and told us that we're good to go, making me grab around it... Unfortunately I felt the customer service wasn't up to par. The egg tarts themselves were actually very good. The edges were flaky and the center was egg-y. We just got the normal Portuguese egg tarts but I'm sure their special Napoleon egg tarts would be even flakier. read more

Get this!! Omg the matcha cake is so good. The match powder is strong and yummy. I'm so surprised cuz I'm not that into matcha The taro cake is surprisingly good too! Get this. It has a layer of pudding! Taste like the Japanese pudding in 3 small cup in 7-11. The flavor contrast so so complimentary I like the Black Forest and tiramisu cake. Love this bakery for a sweet treat or savory pastry. They also have a BOGO drink special for the summer, which changes based on the day for the week. Since it was Sunday, we got BOGO on boba milk tea, which served as a delicious post meal treat. The boba was qq, and milk tea wasn't too sweet. Also got an Ube conche, the ube topping was great, but the ube filling wasn't sweet enough IMO. This parking lot is always busy on the weekends, so be prepared to loop around a few times before finding a spot. More than just bread, that's for sure! I'm actually so impressed with this little bakery, and after all the times I've been in this plaza, I regret not trying it sooner. What drew me in was the puff cream in their boba drinks. I was debating on which tea shop to go to, after all, a bakery isn't where you'd expect to go to find good milk tea drinks. UHMMMM. Okay. Well the tea was absolutely delicious, and the boba was so warm and melt in your mouth delish. I love that even with the puff cream, you can taste the flavor of the tea without it feeling as though you're drinking straight fructose. The bread was sooo good. My picky toddler ate it up! My favorite was the pork sun bun with green onions as well as the regular pork sun bun. I would say it's so much better than other bakeries that offer similar selections. It's a good, simple bakery! There were a lot of nice small pastries to choose from, and I ended up just getting a chicken cheddar because of what I was craving in the moment. The bread here is probably one of the best in Irvine because they use really high-quality ingredients and there's a nice selection of classic bread that you find at a typical Chinese bakery as well as new flavors! They even have mochi donuts and really unique flavors of moon cake. read more

I love Sunmerry bakery. I use to go to the ones in LA and Gardena both experience was pretty good. Came here the other day to get some sweets and some boba . Upon arrival you are greeted by friendly workers willing to help out. It's a pretty small bakery shop so if it's crowded be patient. I was lucky enough to come in when it was crowded. I love their sweet for it is not super sweet and it's just a perfect amount of sweet to satisfy your cravings for something delicious. Ordered a honey milk tea at regular sweetness and enjoyed it quite a bit, surprisingly more so than other chains. The shop itself is on the smaller side, and they offer quite a bit. From cakes to pastries to drinks, imagine a smaller full service location. There are no tables inside, this is an order to-go only. However, there is ample outdoor seating in the plaza. Parking is a crowded mess with small stalls and a lot of people. I recommend you park in the back of the plaza and walk over. We visited from out of town and love Asian breads, so we came in just to browse after eating at Melo Melo, only to end up buying bread for ourselves. The staff is friendly and the prices were decent, though I noticed they use margarine and non-disclosed oils in their breads (I hope they switch to non-seed oils soon). We purchased the Green Tea Croissant and the pack of four Shokupan Buns, which were all super amazing! The Green Tea croissant had a distinct matcha flavor but wasn't full of cream. It was buttery and flakey the way a French croissant should be. 5 out of 5. The Shokupan Buns were some of the best I've had from California. Not too sweet, but not dry. It still tasted good 2 days after purchase and didn't leave me feeling bloated. My husband loved how soft they were and wished we bought more. 5 out of 5. I really hope they stop using margarine and start using only butter and no seed oils at some point. I would give them 5 stars once they make the switch. read more

I've stopped by Sunmerry during lunch on my drives between LA and San Diego for more than a decade, and I was able to grab and go in no time. Something changed a couple months ago, and now it takes 3 to 4 min to transact each customer. The line had been painfully long and slow. I've had to put my stuff back and walk out during my last couple visits because the line with 5 or so people ahead of me was going to take 15+ min. The staff would take a drink order, make the drink before going to the next customer. What used to be a quick 5 min grab and go is now a 15+ min visit. I will probably stop going if this doesn't improve soon. read more

Suggest this location be exempted from any BOGO deal since it's always sold out or any excuse like no ice, no topping when Sunmerry has promotion like that. Also if you were lucky to get the deal, you would be told no adjustment for sugar or ice at all until you present the email you received indicating adjustments are allowed as long as for both same drinks. Pastry is not bad, but definitely need to prepare better for your own promotions. read more

One of my favorite coffees ever is their Tiger coffee...over ice and sweet, but not too sweet. And you have to add a pastry to your order, like a Mochi Donut, Ube Concha, or pork bun. I had gone to the bakery hoping to get a Passion Fruit Roll for the summer get together of teachers and students. I only found a couple of slices and asked a staff member in passing who offered to check in the kitchen. There wasn't a passion fruit roll to be had. I looked in the case at the available cakes and found one mango mousse cake which I asked the cashier if it was for sale. It was, so I ordered that and because it was Thursday got the salted cream green tea for buy one get one which other customers were also taking advantage of. The bakery provided plates and mini forks as well as a happy birthday plastic decoration and candles. A customer that was leaving at the same time was kind enough to hold the door for me with my hands full. The cake was received well. It was a beautiful cake with a few fruit pieces on top. The students asked if it was someone's birthday. It was so special to have a cake. Teachers liked that the cake wasn't too sweet. read more

A renowned bakery specialized in Chinese style baking goods. We visited there around noon on a Saturday. The place was already very busy. Parking in front of the store was impossible in spite of its location in a mall. The store showcased a variety of buns, breads, cakes, danishes, cookies, donuts and etc. they also have their seasonal ice box cakes that seem to be interesting. On the day of our visit, they happened to have sample of almond cookies (almond crisps) for tasting. They were great! We bought 4 buns and a croissant. The 2 pineapple buns are fairly typical and average. The walnut bun is a variation of the pineapple bun is OK but not spectacular. The green onion bun is OK too! The almond croissant is probably the best. It's crispy, well puffed, buttery but there is no detectable almond flavor. Adding a little marzipan filling in this croissant would be nice! Overall it's satisfactory as prices are moderate especially compared to other famous Chinese bakeries. read more

Wow how did I never step into this bakery before being a SoCal local that visits this plaza frequently for dinner over the past decade. It's an amazing bakery with so many options and choices. Pastries are fresh and French inspired also Asian inspired. Not too sweet, not full of sugar, fluffy and light, high quality made, addicting!
