This is a small Asian supermarket in a plaza filled with restaurants. Parking fills up very quickly so it's probably best not to go grocery shopping during any meal times unless you're already there and looking to pick up a few things. We've shopped here on occasion but we do prefer some of the other Asian supermarkets in the area. Variety is limited and produce isn't as fresh as other stores. read more

This place has SO MUCH POTENTIAL. But never quite got there in terms of the wow factor. What they do carry is a generous assortment of mustard greens and other choi-sum/gai-lan green vegetables. Hit and miss in terms of other produce. They had some tempting pomelos today from China. We go there because of the green vegetables and a specialty yoghurt that my hubby loves called Beijing Lao. It comes in little glass containers and the varieties are plain, aloe, lavender/blueberry. High-fat content, but quality yoghurt. Other than that, the store is A-OK. read more

It is not bad if you are living in the area for Asian groceries but the selections is relatively limited and the fruits and veggies are not the freshness! This supermarket is conveniently located along Finch and Leslie, where the TTC 199 express stops. Lots of green vegetables for 99 cents a pound when they're on sale, and they're usually on sale each week I go. Fruits I get usually 99 cents to $1.59 a pound. Meats and fish are also relatively cheap. I don't know about fresh compared to places like Loblaws or T&T but I haven't fell ill from eating what I cook so I'm ok with sacrificing that perceived quality in exchange for a third of the cost. Lots of condiments and sauces to choose from. Snacks section isn't too bad either. They've got a decent hotpot section, though I'm kind of wary of all the frozen seafood imported from china. Just get the ones still swimming around. They also sell kitchenware and for some reason decoration, though it's mostly leftovers from Chinese New Year. They often have food samples available, and if you're looking for a snack there's a Tianjin crepes vendor just outside. I found out there was another sunny supermarket at Don Mills, but this one is much cleaner and doesn't smell like fish throughout the entire store. read more

This is a review on Tianjian crepes. On the weekends, at the front of the store farthest away from the produce section, a lady makes fresh Tianjian crepes. Tianjian crepes are made of buckwheat flour (I think), and then an egg is cracked onto it and spread out to form the second layer of the crepe. It makes for a slightly spongey crepe. This crepe is then topped with cilantro, green onions, hoisin sauce, some kind of fermented bean sauce, hot sauce, and either a what resembles a giant crispy, thicker wonton wrapper, or a deep fried dough stick. This is then folded in half and served piping hot in a paper bag. For $3.50, it's pretty awesome. There are enough people buying this that there might be a small line, but it goes pretty quickly. There aren't many places that serve this kind of crepe (T&T and Xin Jiang being the other two I can think of). It's a great breakfast/lunch/snack option. It's also pretty filling. read more

Located at the Finch-Leslie Square, this supermarket is quite large and serves its surrounding area quite well. Most of the employees (and customers) speak Mandarin, so do take note of that if you ever come here. I find the produce section much better than T&T's (then again...any produce sections beat T&T's nowadays). They carry the famous "Mrs. Chan" vegetables, which are locally grown and very fresh. The other items are relaitvely standard, though they have a separate meat/seafood counter, I guess to minimize that "smell" that's traditional with most Chinese supermarkets. Overall it's a good supermarket for those who live around the area, but for me it's not a place I'd visit often (there's another Sunny Supermarket within 10 minutes of my house anyway). read more

I bought some pieces of bred in sunny supermarket at Lesli and Finch and when I came home and looked at the bred, I considered a lot of blue and green molds on them. I returned the breds and complained about it to the employee that was superior but he ignored my complaint and treated me aggressively an rudely. It was not first time that I was facing with rude behavior of employees in this supermarket. I don't recommend buying anything from this store. read more

It's the same as any other asian supermarket, but not as big as T&T but still provide a great variety of produce and what not and since it was refurbished a few months ago or few years, it's a lot more SUNNY inside with a big room just for seafood so the whole place doesn't smell! - Hard to find parking - Zombie cashiers but not zombie enough to sometimes give off a bitchy attitude. It's not TNT, but they have renovated nicely, turning it from dirty chinese grocery, to a clean make you want to buy environment. The produce section is ample and cheap. I like coming here to get my Hot Chilli Oil which I was searching for, for years, and I found it here. The jar is a white lid, and the label is yellow and red. In Chinese it says Chiu Chow chilli oil. In English is says, Hot Chili Oil. No Brand name. I don't know what I'm going to do one day when I cannot find this anymore! It's a great location, and since I don't live up here any more, I just come by after dim sum with the parents. If not for the fish section and the sometimes good prices on fruits, this place is not worth going to. Try TNT or Bestco if you need an Asian fix with better customer service - if you are white. If you are a white, Sunny's employees will definitely not greet you at the checkout. I'm used to that. However, today, our cashier sneezed not once, twice but three times quickly while she was bagging our food. I had to tell her to stop sneezing on our groceries. There is something called being sanitary when handling food and dealing with people. Sunny's has NONE OF THAT. The supermarket is convenient to where I am so I come here at least once every three weeks or so. The produce.... it's average. Freshness is inconsistent. It is definitely no TnT. But that's fine. The price is what draws me here. I usually only purchase veggies at this place (sometimes a bag of calbee chips! yumm) & some chinese buns from next door. The WORST customer service in all the Chinese supermarkets I've been to. I've always been shopping here, but I'm not going back to this location anymore! Each time I shop there, I haven't been receiving very good customer service and didn't really expected it, but after what happened today, it was the last straw. After loading the groceries on the counter, the cashier just disappeared after serving the previous customer. Not even a "I'll be right back" or indication she was around. After waiting patiently she comes back from chatting away with her neighbour cashier, which didn't seem very important. Not even making eye contact with me, she never acknowledged my presence but just scanned the items, and constantly turning her back on me to chat and laugh with the other cashier and working at a slower pace. At the end, she just threw the receipt at me and went back to talk. The transaction took longer than usual, as she sucked at multi-tasking. This statement was written as one of the company's beliefs on their website: "The success of a business relies on its vision, experience, perseverance and hard work. It's clean. Decent. Doesn't smell. There are so many "independent" chinese grocery stores that I can't tell the difference anymore. I wouldn't come out of my way to shop here, but I can see it being a destination for those in the immediate area. The thing is, I am used to large supermarket formats (my bad) so I just find the selection here, although it has the staples, just small. Well that's a way to make money, CHEAT YOUR CUSTOMERS! CHANGE ok so when you pay for your groceries with a $20 and it comes to $10.47, how much change do you expect to receive?....calculators... That's right $9.53 Well at Sunny's, math is not their forte...or they just play pretend it isn't. My cashier gave me $10.50 change and just ignored the $0.03. Do you know how many people go through this grocery store? They have about 10 active cashiers constantly working because there are that many people that shop at this supermarket. I wouldn't complain because I know accidents happen but this has happened so many times that I think it's a store policy (steal the change from your customers, they won't notice). Now, I demand for the change and when the cashier looks at my blankly, I throw out my receipt in front of her and open my hand with the cash she gave me and count it in front of her. I think this is a horrible way of getting extra money from your customers. I am slowly weaning myself off of this supermarket and trying to find another place to by my goods. read more

This is the closest Asian grocery store for us. It's not TNT, but is relatively clean and smells fresh! Produce selection and quality are decent; a separate and adjoining room for meat and seafood, which is a rather smart way of maintaining room temperature and cleanliness. Needed to kill some time before dinner nearby so we came to browse the grocery store for goodies. First off compared to the many T&Ts around the GTA, this supermarket is small and squishy to get around. I really wasn't impressed with the produce that they had on hand. Sure there was some variety (more exotic fruits than you would find at Metro) but everything was browning, bruised, and just unappetizing to look at. They were missing some variety in other areas too. We were looking specifically for canned artichokes which they did not have. They had a lot of snacks out on display vs on the shelves but some where super overpriced. An example was fried taro chips in one of those round plastic take out boxes with the black bottoms and clear tops...$6.99. The chips weren't really packed in there or they'd all crumble so you would be getting a lot of air! The one interesting thing about this supermarket is that they have a separate section that is a seafood area. The tanks looked cleaned and they had a wide selection of shellfish. read more

Not especially clean looking, but not as dirty as some. Parking lot is oddly shaped and hard to manipulate around. Very rude to customers. My mom used to buy a salmon tail for about an year now so today she went to buy it. The tail is always cheaper than salmon steak but when she check the price after the packaging, the price was charged same as the steak. She asked but they said they are the same price just for today. It doesn't make sense and all of them couldn't speak English well. So she called the manager. The manager was speaking himself, didn't want to hear from my mom and when my mom tried to talk, he hung up on her. What kind of manager is that? Quite convenient location from my workplace in Markham. Produce looks good and fresh. Cooked food section prices are incredible ( 10 shrimp tempuras for $2!!) as well as Combo lunch dishes ( TNT has raised their prices). Their sushi section was modest but I still had to make that extra trip to TNT because my son only wanted cucumber sushi. Their baked section was very extensive, however I found the chinese buns (hotdog, tuna, curry beef, etc) wrapped in too much bread. I will come back but I hope they expand their sushi section. read more

Their fresh sea food and meat section is worth to go. They are fresh and inexpensive . But I feel they clean too much especially shells. Last time I bought PE island mussels for steaming with wine. The beard was removed during pre wash process when I bought thus lost sea water flavour. Even some of them were dead one. Perhaps that is based on Ontario hygiene regulation ? read more
