If you're not familiar, think indulgent, a spectacle, disturbing, hedonistic, garish, innovative, creative, thought-provoking... you will feel polarizing things here, you will remember your visit here forever. According to their website, "Jupiter Artland is an award-winning contemporary sculpture garden... set over 120 azores of meadow, woodland and indoor gallery spaces, Jupiter Artland is home to over 30 permanent and unique site-specific sculptures... as well as a seasonal programme of carefully curated exhibitions..." Try to come on a beautiful day since this is an outdoor adventure! While it's mostly very accessible, there's a lot of walking, so wear comfortable shoes! We got the map and made it a point to visit and read about every site. I think Jupiter Artland became famous because of influencers showing off the vibrant Gateway pool (which you can actually occasionally swim in). I loved I Lay Here For You (about women in nature), Rivers (a collection of water from one hundred different rivers in the UK), Animitas (two hundred small Japanese bells that are constantly making different melodies; no two ever the same; it's supposed to be like how no two souls are the same); Rose Walk (the gothic and chinoiserie pavilions); I liked the Weeping Girls (statues in the woods) but my partner felt haunted, vice versa for In Memory (the cemetery with people's names erased); we were both left speechless, creeped out, and concerned after Upside Mimi! which we watched in its entirety. Woof. The Cells are also very iconic and apparently you can wild swim occasionally there too. The VERY LONG point? You SHOULD visit here. Art is supposed to make you feel stuff, and you will very much feel stuff here.

Definitely the BEST sculpture garden that we have ever visited anywhere in the world. There are both indoor and outdoor exhibits. The exhibits are displayed all over the more than 100 acres property. You can get a lot of exercise walking while searching and exploring the place looking & admiring the exhibits. Personally, my favorite area was the Cells Of Life. Very beautiful landscape work of art!! You cannot miss it because once you enter the property.....there it is!! "Cells of Life consists of eight landforms and a connecting causeway which surround four lakes and a flat parterre." Unfortunately, we only had a couple of hours to spare. So we did not have the opportunity to explore everything that Jupiter Artland had to offer. Still, we did enjoy our time. If you are in the Edinburgh, Scotland area, I recommend dropping by.

Dean cemetery is in a beautiful location near Dean village but is a bit of a hike uphill. This is…read morea huge cemetery with lots of influential, important, interesting people like Elsie ingles, John Bellamy, Henry Cockburn, Agnes Henderson Brown, people involved with Queen Victoria, people involved with William Burke are all buried here and many more. It is worth doing a bit of research beforehand to find out exactly who is buried here and seeking them out. I wish there was a map or something as a guide, I visited at least 5 times, in search of specific memorials and still haven't found them all but there are beautiful interesting monuments but it's the ones that don't necessarily stand out that are worth seeking. There are no toilets that I could see in or around Dean cemetery so I was always on a mad dash to Princess street to find a loo, sometimes having to cut my visit short which was frustrating. But if your into historical graveyards, this is a must see.

Greyfriars Kirkyard is a large graveyard that surrounds the historic Greyfriars Kirk. Kirk is the old Scottish word for a church. It's was established as a burial area during the reign of Mary Queen of Scots. Ever since then it has seen over 100,000 people buried here! They were called Greyfriars as they wore grey robes - hence where the Kirk and Graveyard get their names! The most famous grave here is actually not that of a person but of a little Skye Terrier dog. His name is Greyfriars Bobby! As well as Greyfriars Bobby, fans of the Harry Potter books flock here in droves every year. a lot of people know that The Elephant House Cafe was a regular haunt for J.K.Rowling and is now known as the "birthplace of Harry Potter". this graveyard is only a short walk away from the café! So, it's not too farfetched a theory to think Rowling strolled through here. Although she has never admitted it, it seems as though she was inspired by the names of tombstones in the kirkyard and ended up using them in her stories! So, you'll recognize many famous characters on the tombs like Potter, McGonagall, Moodie, Charles Black, and even Tom Riddle

On the tourist trail, most visitors head straight to the Royal Yacht Britannia, and then jump onto the first bus back into town. However, this is a sad oversight. After all, Leith and its thriving docks have been a key site in the historical development of Edinburgh since the sixteenth century. Trinity House, just off the foot of Leith Walk, is a reminder of this heritage, a small and idiosyncratic museum that provides a glimpse into the area's maritime past. Originally the headquarters of the most prosperous merchant sailors in the city, who apparently in their time wielded authority equivalent to a local mafia, today you can explore grand reception rooms and vaults inside, while also eyeing up a bizarre miscellany of "treasures" retrieved from around the world, which are haphazardly exhibited in the museum. Admission is by guided tour only, and the staff who take you round are friendly and knowledgeable. On Saturdays, you can turn up at 1, 2, or 3pm without booking, otherwise phone ahead to arrange a time.

And it was only £30, which is more than a bargain in anyone's book. Unfortunately, my then boyfriend who I was walking with didn't pick up on any of the ten or so hints I dropped on the way home, even though it was 3 weeks to christmas (!) and so sadly it doesn't belong to me. Whoever does own it, you are very lucky. And you have amazing taste. The moral of my ramble is this: whilst some charity shops' stock is not the sort of thing you'd drool over in the window, this place definitely does not fall into that category. It's like a cross between a vintage clothes shop and a one-off homeware boutique, but at amazing prices. What's not to love?!

The other ones on the street, namely Oxfam, Cancer Research and Barnado's are so much nicer to look at! One the one hand, the other stores may just be better at concealing the fact that all these products have been owned by someone else (a fact I'm sadly not too comfortable with) but it'd also help if Shelter was a little bit better organised. What it does have going for it is that it's not as strict on what it sells, so you could leave with anything from a tunic made in India (I did!), some cooking utensils, a book, or a colourfully sequined hat!

But it's never lived up to the rumours that always precede it. It's a bogstandard charity shop. It has books, it has dvds, cds, records (not many of these) and it has clothes, of course. The thing with charity shops is that the quality (and quantity) is dependent upon the location of the charity shop. Stockbridge shops are pretty good because rich people live there. Marchmont charity shops (the one) are good because there's a huge turnover of students. This Forrest Road one, not that great, but decent. See, there's a huge turnover of students, but there's also huge traffic that goes through that area, and buys the good stuff from the shop. But Shelter is definitely on the higher end of charity shops, so stop by and have a wander.

This is a great little charity shop with a wide selection of secondhand clothes, both ladies' and…read moregents', as well as a small but well stocked book section towards the back, brik a brak and various new kitchen items sold at discounted prices. The staff are generally friendly and helpful. The only criticism I would have of this shop is that it is quite cramped - although there are a great number of good quality items the shop floor is quite small and this gives the feeling that as much as possible has been crammed into far too small a space. It is difficult for two people to pass one another in the aisles, however there are generally no more than 4-5 people in the shop at any one time. A good place to pick up some bargains as Shelter's pricing is very reasonable.

I loved seeing the points of interest…read morewithin the grounds like where Adam Smith is buried and I found the grounds very beautiful and peaceful to walk around, however my bubble soon burst when I came upon a couple of homeless people had pitched up a tent in the Kirkyard and another man urinating at the side of the church which to me was very disrespectful and gross and for that I am giving the Kirkyard 4 stars as I feel it's a lovely warm magical place but needs better patrolled to keep it that way.
