I approached Buena Vista because its one of the largest cemetery in town. I tried speaking in person with all of the managers one at a time but it was never convenient for them. I was told that they were at meetings or busy with clients or not on site. I was asked to send emails to all with the information but they all went unanswered. This circle of attempts went on for weeks and time was running out for me to set up the cemetery as a site to lay wreaths on the tombs of our veterans. Until one Friday afternoon, 4:45 pm, to be precise, I was given the answer of NO by the receptionist. I had to call in to find out the answer although I was told I would be given a call back by a supervisor. No reason was given. Just a plain No for an answer. I was so disgusted, appalled, disappointed, puzzled, angry and in disbelief. After all the time consumed by all different managers and not one took the time to lend me an ear. I explained several times though that WAA is a nonprofit organization and wreaths are donated by patriotic citizens. I also mentioned how volunteers come back to properly dispose of wreaths in January. I am still in disbelief that they were not willing to have this done by volunteers for our Fallen Heroes. Even though the majority of their business is from veterans and their families. Makes me think that their $$$ is the only thing Buena Vista is interested in from our veterans. Laura Marquez

Maria Louisa was the first person we talked to, late at night on the day Mario died; she was so kind and comforting. From there through our work with Carla, Dolly, and all the rest of the staff, we felt heard and cared for. Everybody on staff went the extra mile to help us deal with this sudden loss, getting remains cremated and shipped to California, and handling all the details. While we were in Brownsville we experienced such gentle and loving support through a small viewing and as the kids had to step up to handle things as his adult next-of-kin. I can't say enough good things about Treviño, which is a wonderful funeral home because its staff is so remarkable. I would recommend Treviño without reservation to anybody. Death and grief are hard; Treviño helped us step through it, and we are grateful for that experience.
