Been taking our cars here for ten years. Generally pleased until our last visit. We went in for an inspection and oil change. When we got it back we found the tire iron and the retaining strap for the jack (which we didn't even know we had) laying out in the trunk and an interior trunk panel wide open. They must have closed the trunk on the retaining strap buckle, cracking the interior. I don't know if they were looking for the wheel lock key (which we keep in the front) or what. We took it in to show them what happened along with pictures. Charlie denied it could have been them because "they would have no reason to look in there". He tried to blame us for removing the panel and tools and leaving them in the trunk. When we said we didn't even know that panel existed let alone what was in it (the tires are run flat, there is no spare) he suggested maybe someone else drove our car in between the time we picked up our car and photographed the damage an hour later. It made no sense at all. He absolutely refused to admit it might have been their mistake. Finally he agreed to fix it but angrily said they'd never service our car again. Really negative experience. If you're going there make sure you take lots of pictures of your car before you drop it off. read more

After reading the stellar reviews, I really wanted to like Superior Auto Care. They're close by, they have a slick email confirmation system, and a convenient drop off. But they are very expensive, average mechanics, and not always polite--even when I was handing over hundreds of dollars. Superior charged me an average of 315% markup for widely available aftermarket parts over the cost of higher quality OEM parts I found online. For instance, they charged $123 plus tax for an aftermarket right side ball joint on my old Volvo 240. The OEM ball joint retails online for about $40, and good aftermarket joints are available for about $18-19. Obviously a shop like Superior has more overhead than an online retailer, therefore one might expect slightly higher prices--but 300%?!?! That is excessive. Overall, I paid nearly $750 for parts and labor on 3 belts, 1 front ball joint, and an inspection. That's REALLY steep. Furthermore, during this service, they basically ignored my request to replace the timing belt (which I was told would be part of the $750 service) and the front cam shaft seal, which looked leaky. Instead, "they cleaned the engine" and told me to keep an eye on the leak to make sure it was in fact the front cam seal. It was, just like I said. Then they quoted another $550 to replace the belt and the seal--exorbitant, especially when you consider that replacing these 2 parts would have been trivial when they were doing the other belts during the first service. But why do a little more work now when you can do 2 separate jobs for twice the money? So they quoted me an additional $550 for the timing belt and front engine seal. I promise you: any experienced mechanic with a shop full of tools can replace a timing belt on a Volvo 240 in no more than 90 mins. Also, the seal and belt cost about $25 retail. Even allowing generously for Superior's expensive parts pricing and 3 hours of labor ($95/hr), the quote should have been no more than $350--not $550. I politely suggested the price seemed high, declined the repair, and told the office manager I would pick up the car. She immediately become agitated and raised her voice. When I arrived for pickup, she apologized halfheartedly for the phone exchange. I hurriedly accepted the apology and hightailed it out. Let's be honest, if I'm paying over 300% for parts and $95/hr for labor, I expect service commensurate with the prices. That means you need to respond politely to ALL questions and concerns, and don't raise your voice--especially after I just wrote a check for $700+ a week previous. It means you need to diagnose things the first time and not double up work--especially obvious things like a cam seal leak. If you can't deliver that, then how "superior" is your service? 300% markup for parts + egregious abuse of hourly billing + rude office manager = 1 star. read more

Do not go here (especially if you are a woman). The receptionist is lovely, but when she was gone the owner was very unprofessional. I was going for a car inspection, and was charged for parts and labor that they never asked me if they could perform. They said they "had to do it", or else I would fail inspection. Superior is the best car service outfit I've ever used. Sometimes a vendor comes along that gives such insightful service that you know you'll never go anywhere else; Superior is one of those places. They operate on an entirely different level from any other auto service center - including dealer service - that I've used. They're extremely well-priced, straightforward, professional, and incredibly competent at doing what's right to service your car. If they see other problems, they'll highlight them and give recommendations on how and whether to deal with it. My friend only takes his car there and while serving his car they told him that he needed to replace 2 new tires asap. He replied with the equivalent of 'yeah, yeah' to which they *reluctantly* let him go. He then took his car for a drive to Long Island and promptly blew out both tires. Tony knows now to listen to Superior next time! They have an easy to use web site where you can pick 3 preferred appointment days, and they'll come back to you in about an hour to confirm your appointment. They'll also confirm your appointment via e-mail or text. Downsides: you have to make an appointment - you can't just show up. They're only open weekdays until 5:30, so it's not totally convenient if you want to speak to them before picking up your car, however to facilitate off-hour pickup, they will process your payment and leave your car parked on the street with the keys and statement in it (you have to have a second car key of course). read more

If i could give a negative i would. Had major emergency and got towed to this shop becuase i saw good reviews left my vehicle to get an alternator swap on monday and was called tuesday next day 2:30 that there was a oil leak damaging my alternator. And the part wont be available next day and had to leave my car for a 3rd day. I asked to see for myself. And the shop answered the bay ridge nissan has the part today but i needed to go and bring it myself. I never heard a shop tell a costumer to get the part themselves. They saw an opportunity that if i was willing to pay 9000 that they squeeze out couple hundred more. I asked why wasnt this issue check on monday when i left the car originally. I also said i myself i changed the oil and didnt see no leak whatsoever. Thats when they changed their story that there a hole on oil cooler line because of removing and disturbing the hose. I immediately contacted my mechanic contacts and sent them pics, they told me to get out of there fast!! I told them put my car together i want it today. They rushed the job spilled coolant around engine. Did they use funnel? My car was returned without a test drive. And when i told them it made a noise coming the belt the shop said they didnt hear anything and that there was no mechanics left they all left. Once again i was told to leave another day. But after everything i wouldnt even trust them for an oil change. They put back my splash guard with screws. Smelled like burning collant from the spills. I brougth that up as well and was told that came from the coolent leak she told me about originallyI replied back "didnt u say it was an oil leak though ?". What i didnt tell them was that i went to school which showed me basics on a vehicle. Belt installed back was wrong that it was rubbing into my alternator and could gave snapped and made me get into a accident. Pipes (from pics) arent even secured on which are hanging on shaking. Thanks for accelerating the life of my vehicle. And possible putting me in harms way. Who knows what else they did to my vehicle becuase i was told to step out for insurance reasons which I respected. I personally will never step into this shop again. Horrible experience. read more

Amazing experience. Our 2007 had blown out its wheel bearing after we had it replaced in Texas after a long road trip a year ago. I only brought my car in for a simple state inspection and was mostly pleased with the results. I called and asked if I could just bring the car in rather than scheduling an appointment and they agreed that I could since it was a simple inspection. Perhaps they should have just said no, because though I dropped my car off at 11am and was told it should be done by 2, I called them at 3:30 and was told it was being worked on and should be done in 30 minutes. I walked over and it was indeed done at 4. The work was good and seemed honest (it was just an inspection) and the staff was very pleasant to work with I just wish they could have said they either didn't have much time for it when I called or told me to schedule an appointment, or even just given me a call when they saw they were backed up. read more

Started going to Superior after a recommendation from a friend, it's a recommendation I've really appreciated and happy to have received. I've had maintenance done on my car and Superior has always completed the work in a super timely manner, call me to check in before the work is done and are patient while I consider finances and what to do, and they are honest, a big issue with anything auto-related. Today I dropped my car off after the "Maintenance Required" light came on. I received a call saying nothing was wrong and my car was good to go. Turns out the place where I had last changed my oil didn't reset the maintenance timer. Superior reset the timer, told me I was good to go and they didn't charge me a thing. As someone who doesn't know a lot about cars, they totally could have told me I needed a complete flush or a new gasket or even that oil change that I always feel I need. This place is awesome. Just plain awesome. Good, decent, honest, reliable mechanics are so hard to find, and after a few bad experiences in and around our neighborhood I feel like we have hit the auto repair JACKPOT with this place. Lindsey is great, Frank is great, the whole team is. It's obvious that they are a well-run business, and they are easy to deal with. They were the 3rd mechanic we took our car to when it was having some mysterious problems, which we thought were electrical issues. First place replaced the battery. Second place replaced our starter - without even running it past us first - and charged us. Superior was the 3rd place we took it to and the only ones to say hey - you've got an electrical problem! Bingo! They fixed it, their prices are reasonable, and I feel that they can really be depended on to give honest, top quality service. I've since brought the car back in to have the AC fixed....they were pretty much booked up until the following week, but said they would "do their best" to try and squeeze it in - no promises, but they'd try. I let them know that our passenger window is broken and that I had a long drive coming up in a two days (and it's 90 degrees outside!) - yikes! Got a call from them a few hours later saying they managed to get to it, it's fixed, I can come get it in the morning. SO glad we found this place. Yay! So, I had Frank work on my car, and I was referred by NOK, a place that had done electrical work for my old 1999 Honda Civic. Now I have a 1988 Volvo 240 DL, (like my salaries, my cars take a downward trajectory) and it too needed electrical work by masters. I brought my car there on a Wednesday night - they let me drop by up to an hour after they were 'officially' closed, since they had to clean up - and had it back by Friday. All the problems I'd had - the interior lights, the gear changing illumination, and the dash - were fixed. Problem was, as I noted on a Saturday when they were closed - my heat had stopped working. I brought the car back in on Monday, and they took a hard look at it, fixed it right as rain, and then Dom SHOWED ME HOW TO CHANGE A FUSE so I could save myself future hassles created by corroded fuses. Now, have you ever had service so good? In addition to that, I was told by the guys at my regular shop, Minhs, that Superior tends to be really trustworthy and great with electrical stuff. Brought my car in for an oil change, wheel alignment and to get checked for some grinding noises. Dom took care of the car, did everything I asked him to do and explained that I needed new front brake pads (which explained the grinding)... he even sold me some girls scout cookies, which are hot items this time of year! Dropped my car off on a Friday morning and got it back by the end of the day. Saturday comes along and I hear more grinding. (Guess I'll be giving them lower stars on yelp, I start to think)... I had a good mechanic in Boro Park, but moved two years ago. I've now found my new shop in the South Slope with Superior Care Auto. I made an appointment to check the tires and the AC. I knew my "cut rate" tires weren't going to cut it anymore and the AC hadn't worked yet this summer. Since I was a new customer they looked over the whole care and called me in the early afternoon. The IDed a few things that I knew were wrong, but had been ignoring like clunking in the front end if/when I hit pothole or pebble. Tires were a must and the AC needed a new compressor and a few other smaller issues that were in need of a fix, but not dire. They even said that the car, while def. on its back 9, was in pretty good shape. Now, SCAC won't necessarily be the cheapest out there, but I'd like a safe and reliable car. SCAC lef the choice up to me as to what I should have them do. I went for the safety stuff and put off the AC repair. They said that since they did the check, they knew the issue and if I wanted to have it fixed at a later date to take it back to them. I needed the car back by the end of the day since I have to drive to work the next morning. It was nearly mid-afternoon and they had to get some parts elsewhere and I was told that they'd do their best...and they did. I got it back by 6pm. The customer service is great, very professional, and they work with you to get the job done. We'll be going back when need additional work. read more

This garage charged me $1800 to replace two catalytic converters on my truck two years ago. I just discovered that they actually installed a spacer on an oxygen sensor (this raises the sensor so it isn't reading the exhaust but it looks normal from the outside. It's illegal to do this) so that it would pass the emissions inspection without replacing the converters! Now, I'm stuck with two bad converters and a faulty oxygen sensor. In hindsight, I should have inspected their work, but I normally put some trust in what the mechanics do. There are plenty of repair shops in the area, avoid this one. read more

I went to Superior Auto Care to have major electrical work done on my Cadillac C.T.S. I went to them When I had no place left to go. I tried 5 other shops over a 13 month period for various electrical problems... they all claimed to know how to fix a certain problem. I trusted them and when I left my car there they spliced wires, made improper splices, made improper wire connections causing one problem to domino into another problem and ultimately almost left my vehicle almost worthless. Anyone who knows the Cadillac should know that this car is very complicated and requires expert evaluation and intelligent decisions. Again, I had to take a chance with Superior Auto Care. Charlie and Staff, diagnosed the problem and over a course of 2 weeks repaired all the problems caused by the places I previously tried to have fixed. Additionally, Crystal Cadillac misdiagnosed the various problems and also estimated the cost of repairs came much higher than Superior, I rejected Krystal Cadillac instead I went to Superior Auto Care. Today: All my problems with my car have been fixed and at a lower price than Kristal Cadillac. Kristal like the others who I previously went to; generally don't care. They just want your money and they will concoct an electrical shortcut then release the car. Weeks and months later the same problem and more will surface because they didn't do the job the right way from the beginning. Superior Auto Care will do the job and they are courteous, honest and smart for high tech cars. Like my Cadillac. I have been told my shops many has 44 on board electronic computers. When you need a place that has expertise, hands on, down and dirty investigation, diagnosis combined with real technical knowledge. Do yourself a favor and go to Superior. You won't regret it. Superior Care Saved My Car! I thought the ol' Dodge Stratus was beginning to give up the ghost. But with new ball joints, control arms, and struts, it's back on the road and driving like new. With only 103,000 miles on it, it should be good for another 100,000 miles...at least! As for the cost of parts--they deal with parts suppliers, not on-line sellers, so they know the parts are going to be reliable and fit properly. You want cheaper parts? Their mark up for auto parts is OUTRAGEOUS! I came in for a wheel alignment and it turned out I needed a new outside and inside tie rod for my front right axle. They were professional enough to give me an itemized breakdown of the charges and ask for my approval before going ahead with the repairs. They charged me over $200 for the parts when I found them on the internet for less than $85. I know every garage charges a premium on parts and I don't expect them to give me internet prices, but charging me over a 100% mark up is EXTREME! I will still come back to Superior because they are professional, organized, trustworthy but I might have to buy the parts myself beforehand. read more

I have been going to these guys for 2 years . I got a complete tuneup and shocks changed a few months ago. Engine check light came on the day I picked up the car - I was told this is 'not a concern' and to ignore it. That was the first warning sign. Recently, my engine died (never ignore engine check light!) and I got it fixed at Superior. Went to pick up the car and the brake pad check light was on - this time they said 'we don't know anything about it'. Totally unprofessional. This is the last time I get suckered by these guys. I think they have nice front men but lousy technicians and the customer service is quite pathetic. Always seemed fair and reasonable. We had to replace a clutch on 2005 Subaru and they did the replacement, but when it failed within two weeks they just took it back and replaced that one. They sent us to the dealer one time because a bolt was particularly weathered and stuck: "if we break it it's expensive to get the part quickly, if they do it they have all the parts ready and can replace quickly". read more

Superior Care Auto Center is the real deal! I decided to go here based on the nice reviews they had on Yelp. My roadster's right front wheel was making funny noises. Superior Care diagnosed a bad bearing, obtained a new OEM bearing for less than my dealer quoted, and finished the repair in a day. They then performed a four wheel alignment and wheel balance on my request, gave me precise before-and-after stats, and explained in detail how they set the suspension and why. My car has never been more smooth and stable! I was so happy that I asked them to service my terrible A/C. They concluded that all it needed was evacuation and recharge. Now the A/C is blowing as well as when my car was new. In all, this experience has been the best I've ever had in the land of car service where, as we all know, bill padding and obfuscation rule. Frank, Dominick, and Charlie are totally straightforward, take pride in their work, go out of their way to satisfy the client, have the technical chops and instrumentation to tackle any problem, and run a tight ship all around. From now on I will always go to Superior Care! (Note: it is best to call them first and set up an appointment since they are heavily booked. I've only been here twice but I will absolutely be back; and I'm really happy to have found this shop based on reviews from Angies List and from here. I posted this exact same review (copy and pasted) over there too. I'm fairly particular in general. I want the car serviced according to the manufacturer's service schedule. Superior attaches the service schedule to you and your car in their computer system. They know what needs to be done and when. Previous experiences in other shops had the mechanic completely blowing off my request to do what was on the list either doing what they thought was necessary or trying to do a whole lot more. The local dealers have their own service schedules which unsurprisingly includes a lot of extra unnecessary work. I'm impressed that they take the time to explain everything they're doing, and in terms of repair, what is more important and what is less important. The flip side of this is that you may wait a while in a fairly cramped office while they spend time with other customers; but when they get to you, they will give you the same attention and service. The quality of the work seems excellent. The level of knowledge about customers individual models also seems excellent. For example, the transmission and rear transaxle fluids in my car are brand specific, other brands can cause issues. They're the first shop I've found that knew that right up front and stocked or obtained the right stuff. They're not afraid to say they don't know something and will look up information right in front of you to verify it. (I've seen mechanic's just make stuff up on the fly that I knew was wrong) They're going to keep my car running forever; or at least a good portion thereof. Overall, I think they're on a par with the great Stef of Capsule whose untimely demise left many people scrambling to find a replacement. "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." So, I take the blame for going back after some initially bad experiences. My last time there was Absolutely HORRIBLE. Went in for a simple oil change. Multiple phone calls later and three days later, I spent close to $2,000. Death by small cuts. They kept calling finding new "dangerous" things wrong. Little by little this added up. For a ten year old car, I never would have agreed to these repairs had they told me from the onset how much this visit would cost. Additionally, the office manager became quite defensive, aggressive, and rude when I challenged the need for some of the repairs. And finally, after spending much more than I wanted, being without my car for three days, the car engine began overheating by the time I got home. I will NEVER go back again. Was in Brooklyn with friends and car started making a strange noise.Took out my phone and checked for a good repair shop. Liked what i read about them.Called to see if they could check my car out.Frank told me they usually work by appointments but said they could take a look at my car ,it was making a strange noise.Frank took a ride with me and told me the noise was not serious. They put it up on the lift and showed me the noise. It was a heat shield that rusted and was loose.Frank assured me that they would remove it and that it wouldn't cause any problems not having it. Superior takes advantage of customers with little knowledge of cars and extremely over charges. They wanted me to agree to pay $95 just to look at my car. OK Charles, the only thing you did that was heinous was tell me that I had a "million" cracks in my drive belt and it must be replaced for 200 dollars, when two other mechanics looked at it and said it did not need changing. If all these other guys do low quality work and use shoddy equipment, then why weren't they telling me the belt was no good either? Also, I was quoted for OEM parts for the brake job 329 dollars which as you now are replacement parts from the manufacturer. Your price of 479 was for after market parts, from manufacturer raysbestos. The parts I received were the very same you quoted me, but for 250. So again, I ask, why do you double your price and make a false claim that my belt is horrible. Also, how come in the entire process where you quoted me your price you never once mentioned this supposed 24 month warranty? If that is what sets you apart, you might want to mention it. Why do you charge 1.8 hours for a job that should only take 1 hour? why do you charge so much, 95/hr for your labor? do your technicians have masters degrees? And finally, why will you not accept that you have been cheating the good people of park slope for years and have been overcharging every single job based on a false claim that you are the best and do the best work, when that is as arbitrary of a comment I have ever heard. When you say "you get what you pay for" then a customer of yours should get a massage, a free lunch, and tickets to a broadway play for the prices you are charging, but alas, they only get the same job done any other mechanic will do for half the price and in the end, your customers are not getting what they pay for, since they are paying way too much for the work performed. read more

These people are GREAT. I took my car in over the summer for an inspection. They did a great job then and pointed out to me that I really needed to get my axle repaired. I was aware of this as it had been mentioned to me before by others and my car has some 175k+ miles on it. However, they quoted me a really great rate. I told them I would come back to get it done soon. My "soon" was in January, but when I called to make the appointment, they still had all of the information about the needed repair on file. They emailed me two days prior to the appointment to remind me and to give me instructions on drop off. Their instructions were well organized and very clear. When I came to drop off my car they had all of my information ready and the quote was the same- no price inflation or anything else shady- just super straight forward, reliable people- and friendly too. So they said they would call me if there were any other issues. They phoned just to confirm that they had the car up, had inspected it, that the axle really was the only pressing concern, mentioned a few concerns that would need to be addressed 'eventually', but that the axle was all that we had to do really. They were finished super fast too. So in short, these guys are all that you could want in a mechanic: honest, straight forward, reliable, friendly, organized, reasonably priced, and super efficient. I brought my car in to be inspected because I had gotten a ticket for an expired sticker. Superior wasn't able to complete the job the day they said they would and kept my car on the street with no notice on it that it was in the process of being inspected, so I got a second ticket while it was in their care. I took the tickets and the receipt for the inspection work to parking court and was found guilty for both tickets because they deemed me responsible for having the updated inspection sticker. To me it is extremely unfair that Superior is taking no responsibility for that second ticket or that they didn't' tell me that they were leaving it on the street with the possibility of getting another ticket. I would have come to get the car or left a note in the window with they other ticket explaining that they hadn't been able to fit in the inspection that day. They put all of their energy into finding little problems with the car that added up to over $1000 and not into thinking about saving me from getting another ticket, which is why I brought the car to them in the first place. No, I won't be coming back to Superior again. They have a terrible customer relations policy in my view. read more

You will not find a more honest and more competent set of mechanics anywhere, let a lone Brooklyn. When moving to a new neighborhood, there is nothing more nerve racking than finding a new auto repair shop. I've had seventeen years of carefree service knowing that only real work that had to be done to keep me safe and sound. They don't create work to keep themselves busy or pay for their boat payments. They've steered me to timely and cost effective repairs that are pre-emptive of any serious problem and keep me from ever calling a tow truck for help. Really as good as it gets. Forget all that you're afraid of with mechanics - getting ripped off, imaginary problems with your car, etc. Finally you have found someone you can trust. They are amazing. Not one complaint. And an incredibly organized reminder and communication system to boot. read more
