Supervalu in Raheny is a strange enough type of shop. A small local supermarket, they are a bit of a dichotomy at times, like the time I went there and they were out of red peppers, but had kangaroo meat for sale. The shop can be very enervating, too: there is a counter for valuable and/or shopliftable items, like ciggarette and razorblades, scratch cards, etc, but half the time there is nobody working at it, and you have to wait for a staff member to happen upon you.
I have to give mad props to the sandwich counter at this point, though. Early on a Saturday morning recently, I went in to get a roll for later consumption at my place of work. There was no queue (as is only to be expected in the morning), and I got a roll containing the following: mayonnaise, ham, grated cheese, lettuce, cucumber and red onion. For this varied roll (one meat, cheese and count 'em 1,2,3 salads) I was charged only three euro and seventeen cent.
Being fairly impressed with this value, and being in work for another long day the next day, I headed into the deli counter once more for another roll. This time, I got exactly the same roll, only i substituted stuffed turkey for the previous day's ham (variety being the spice of life). For this tasty roll I was charged a minuscule two euro thirty something cent. €2.40 for a roll?!? You'd pay twice that for the same roll a Spar or Centra in town.
So if you happen to be passing through our sweet little suburb, or if you have the incomparable good fortune of being a native of Rath Éanaigh, do pop into Supervalu for all of your sandwich and kangaroo meat needs. read more
