Today, I attended the Employee Pricing Sale at the Supplement King Surrey Newton location (201-7093 King George Boulevard, Surrey, BC). I spent over $200 during this event, and according to their promotion, any customer spending $200 or more was supposed to receive an "Ultimate Gift Bag."
However, at checkout, I was given the smaller gift bag typically reserved for customers who spend $50. When I questioned this, the two male employees at the register told me the "Ultimate Gift Bags" were only for the first 10 customers and that they were all gone. This was clearly not true. I had seen several customers ahead of me in line receiving the correct bags, and even after my purchase, I observed other customers leaving the store with them. A stack of these bags was visibly stored behind the counter.
As a female shopping alone, I genuinely felt taken advantage of and dismissed. Had I been accompanied by a man, I strongly believe the situation would have played out differently. The way I was brushed off and denied the full value of the promotion felt unfair and discriminatory.
This experience was not just about a gift bag--it was about being misled, treated unequally, and not receiving what was promised. I expect honesty and integrity when shopping at any business, especially when spending over $200.
I will not be returning to this location, and I will be contacting Supplement King's head office to file a formal complaint. I hope management takes this seriously and holds their staff accountable for how customers--especially women--are treated. read more
