Although they've expanded in a big way across our little Island, this Dublin city centre store still is sill the best of the lot. From Leitrim GAA Jerseys to Connaught sweatshirts and the latest football strips from the UK and beyond. They do more then the above though, with Elverys stocking everything from Archery equipment to darts as well equipment for lesser played sports, in Ireland anyway, such as cricket and squash. Not only was the store mid-sale, but the footwear department upstairs carried stock in size 8! Victory! We agreed a pair of marked down fur-lined snow boots (was €80, now €45) that have the look of life-long reliables. I was fairly impressed with the rest of the shop's offerings -ski suits, down jackets, climbing gear and more. What I wasn't delighted with were the prices on a few of those; a woolly hat whose matching scarf was marked down from €20 to 10 was still itself a massive €20. The prices are indeed reduced heavily, but the fact that the starting price is so high means the reduced price is still high. I took a look around the store and was dismayed that I couldn't even buy a single item. Even a bra was only reduced to 27 euros. Sad face. If you are a camping nut or just enjoy being outside, this place is worthy of a stop in. Their stuff is really excellent and fun to just look at a wish for, as I do. There was just one little thing that I didn't like ... conditioning. Now don't get me wrong I didn't have any problem running, etc while playing basketball, it's these little things that they make you do at the end of practice called suicides. I think the name says enough in itself. It's a dreadful line drill. Anyways that has always cemented in my head that running is punishment. So last year I foolishly took on the task of trying to run the Flora Women's mini-marathon, ok I was only planning on running like 2 miles and walking the rest. Since moving to Ireland the only running shoes I had were shipped over to me by my mom because I just found it so difficult to find a shop with a good selection of women's shoes that weren't outlandishly priced. A runner friend of mine recommended stopping into Mick Dowling's. I was amazed at the selection and how helpful the staff were. They even set me up with some other gear that I would need to make sure my training went off well. Now unfortunately for my training, the pub was right near the gym, and instead of encouraging our training my friend's boyfriend encouraged our drinking. Oh well, at least I have the gear the next time I decided to take up running.

Well, it was and it wasn't. Yes, it is filled with every imaginable jersey but it is also filled with tons and tons of sports equipment. I was pretty excited because my boyfriend and I had been talking about getting some tennis rackets, but we're on a tight budget. I wandered around the shop for a while before I approached a sales assistant and asked for a little advice. He said they had some rackets but that another location would have more in stock. He also said that they come in a range of prices, from 20 euros and up! That is not bad for a tennis racket, not bad at all! I don't know what it is really the rest of the world is obsessed with it and in the states it's losing money. Great range, great advice, and I reckon the price was as good value as you'd get anywhere, and the service better than most of these anonymous big multinational sports shops. Went back a week later to change the Ballport for the bigger one, and no quibble, and no rip-off. I'm going nowhere else for tennis and squash gear from now on. Trust me! Benny

I have always found the service exceptional with advice based on a customer need rather than a retailers current stock . They are flexible also with returns and prices are rarely bettered. . I would have given them 5 stars if they still had the Hitting Facility they used to but I suppose that is in the control of the tennis club . On that point I felt it a poor reflection on the tennis club that they would not permit use of the toilet . I am not a member there.
