So happy I stopped into this little diner over the weekend! The atmosphere, service and food were all top-notch. I actually came across this place thanks to Yelp. I was looking for a brunch option after doing a long run past the beach on Palm Beach and this was the top recommendation. Once I finished up my miles, I hopped in the car and took a ride over to the Surfside Diner. The diner was pretty busy but there wasn't a wait. I was able to grab a seat at the bar/counter area. I was waited on immediately and since I was so hungry promptly ordered an egg white omelet. Now, the omelet itself isn't super pricy, but when you add all of the extra stuff in it, it really starts to get expensive. My egg white omelet was almost $15! But I figured it was a special occasion since I was leaving town and I had just run so far. The omelet was excellent -- probably one of the better ones I've ever had. It was put together perfectly and the arugula salad served with it was also excellent! There was a whole area of cakes and cookies that I would love to try the next time I come in. Had breakfast here on a Sunday morning. Very nice and clean inside. Typical Palm Beach crowd. Had to wait about 10 - 15 for a table...could've sat at the counter but we needed a high chair. Staff was very friendly and prompt. Menu is limited and definitely on the pricey side for breakfast. We both tried different Benedicts, my wife the Palm Beacher, and I tried the standard. We also ordered blueberry pancakes for the baby. Food was good...I had a small issue which was quickly resolved with my order. I think they might cure and smoke their own smoked salmon. Pancakes were the best part of the meal. Overall...it's ok, but be prepared to spend more than usual for breakfast without having the perks of alcohol to offset that cost. Cost was $46 before tip. Breakfast Review - A great option for breakfast on Palm Beach Island The Ghost has been there many (dozens of) times over a few years, and so this is "expert review." If you want to go to breakfast on the Island of Palm Beach Florida, this is a very good option. TG rates it a "B" a good rating for the Ghost, whose average rating is a "C". The Surfside Diner is a pleasant place to have breakfast and offers a good selection of menu items and muffins. The service is inconsistent and that prevents a higher rating (YMMV). The Surfside Diner is located in downtown Palm Beach just a couple blocks from Worth Avenue (the Rodeo Drive of Florida). It is located on South County Road a couple of blocks from the ocean. There is on-street parking near the restaurant (limited free parking [2 hours during the day] so keep that in mind, and the local parking enforcement is aggressive). It is normally crowded on week mornings and especially "in season" and after church on Sundays. Expect to wait 10-15 minutes if you come during a busy time of day (weekend mornings). There is a nice local bookshop next door to shop in or grab a newspaper if there is a slight wait. The restaurant is very clean, simply decorated with a nice tin ceiling. There some comfortable booths, a few tables and counter dining which TG finds a bit "tight." It would be hard to seat tables of more than four people together. While the restaurant is casual, it is more "Palm Beach Casual," especially on the weekends (no beachwear). The Surfside breakfasts are a combination of traditional dishes (eggs and meat), benedicts (including the "Malibu - Poached Eggs, Avocado, Turkey Breast on English Muffin Topped with Hollandaise Sauce), and interesting dishes such as a "Chicken Burrito Wrap" (which the Ghost orders with pork sausage rather than chicken - the dish is pretty boring with chicken), and some "healthy" cereals. If you like your dishes well-seasoned, you will need to ask they add extra salt and pepper. It might be due to the more mature clientele which prefers dishes blander. Their muffins are reported to be very good (TG is not a muffin connoisseur). Unfortunate, the service is a bit "spotty." Service is generally efficient, but a couple of the servers are just plain "sour" (bordering on rude) while others are terrific happy people. Some of the "grumpy" servers are slow to greeting new customers and coffee refills are a bit slow. The prices are reasonable (especially for Palm Beach) and the quantities are generous (especially the Breakfast Burrito Wrap). The breakfast potatoes are not severed warm enough in TG humble opinion, and the serving is a bit small. The food is well presented. Their "facilities" are quite clean. They also offer lunch (please note this is NOT a review for lunch - which will be included in a separate future review). The coffee is fair. After breakfast, you can head to the beach (a couple of blocks away) or walk to Worth Avenue to do some shopping (or the more affordable "window shopping"). You will find many stores on Worth Avenue such as Jimmy Choo, Louis Vuitton, Tiffany, Hermes, Gucci, etc. Again, if you parked, make sure to move your car if you be staying over two hours. There are a couple of public parking lots in the area, but they are difficult to find. This is TG's favorite Palm Beach breakfast place. I'm at the Surfside Diner and first and foremost it's clean! Menu well designed for what it is and all of the staff working here are the "beautiful people" young, thin, well groomed and polite. But why 4 out of 5 stars? Simple they lost the point over really stupid things, 1. I ordered coffee with milk, it came with cream and had to ask for the milk 2. I ordered home fries not the arugula salad with my main course, it was served with the salad, I had to ask for the home fries. 3. I had to ask for a coffee refill 4. The bill was given to me without asking if I wanted anything else, I then asked for a piece of coconut cake and the bill had to be taken back adjusted and returned. Would I come back? Every year we make our way to the island to spend some time with family and this is always one of our go to spots (even previously when it was Hamburger Heaven). Our most recent visit was when we were back home for a family function in June. It was nice to see that things had calmed down with most seasonal residents gone for the summer. These days it is our favorite breakfast spot. Great location in the middle of town to meet everyone at. Inside it is very clean with the service being fast and attentive. The food is typical breakfast fare in well sized proportions. I like to order the omelette since I can order something custom and change it up. I was even more shocked at the number of people reading PRINT NEWSPAPERS. Absolutely floored. The extra charges on food items can rack up. If you order pancakes or waffles, you also have to buy maple syrup. Very odd. And if I had built my own omelette, but would have been close to $20. Instead I had the egg casserole which was tasty.
