Absolutely awful experience and will never use this company again and will go out of my way to ensure no one else does too. My mom called to have our pool closed and the said they'd be here by 9am and NEVER SHOWED. They came back another day and didn't even close the pool because we were "missing a part" which after 8 years we've never heard. They schedule to come back at 7am another day and NEVER SHOW AGAIN! They wasted 3 days and didn't return our calls until 3 messages later! AWFUL customer service, they were very rude and condescending about THEIR inconsistencies, and only made excuses! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! There are so many nearby to this one it is definitely not worth the money!!!! read more

I purchased a pool through Surfside after a free consultation. They seemed very knowledgeable and provided great ideas about making my backyard into a vacation paradise. Until.....my excavation estimate rose from a quote of $80/hr to $101/hr), poor workmanship on a concrete slab and the installation of the pool overflow, a heater that broke 2 weeks after the pool opened AND a truckload too much of back-fill. I have worked in customer service for close to twenty years. I was amazed at the lack of customer service that this company provided. I was more of a nuisance than a paying customer. I dealt with both the Owner and his sales manager. I was able to have them come get the truckload of fill that had to be gathered up by my husband a a few good neighbors. When I asked if we would be reimbursed, I was told that the fact they were taking it was reimbursement enough. That was $200+ of my money..not to mention the fact that my husband ruptured 2 disks in his back trying to get all this crushed stone and stone dust out of our backyard. I had to contact the manufacturer to have the heater replaced. It could not be done until spring. It took 2 appointments (no call no show) and several phone calls to schedule the installation of the pool cover. I had another company close the pool because Surfside failed to coordinate the pool closing when we arranged the pool cover install. They gave me a third date and once we had our pool closed by another company, I called to cancel. Funniest thing was that they never had me scheduled to close the pool. Three weeks later, they arrived at our house to close the pool and collect final payment. Day late and a dollar short my friends. In the end, the pool is done and it does look nice. I withheld $340. to compensate for the overcharges in the excavation and for the extra back-fill that was unnecessary. I had to contact the manufacturer to have the heater replaced. They sent Surfside replace it. During this, it was discovered that Surfside broke a threaded connection into a chlorinator and instead of replacing it, used silicone to glue it together. We brought this to their attention. I was told I could purchase a replacement part at a discount but they would not replace it for free since I still had a balance with them of $340.00. After paying over $20,000, you think they would list it as a courtesy discount, Really, give me the 1.5% discount, I think we earned it. I have heard since this experience that dealing with pool companies can be shady. I would think in this day and age that people can run reputable business. My advice: DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Can't vouch for their pool-building reputation, but we go and get our salt (Intex above ground pool with salt system instead of chlorine, A+ btw) and shop for some toys and accessories. They don't have a huge selection but they always have what I need. For a local pool shop it is fine, nearby and friendly. read more

Recently I had trouble with my pool, unable to get clear water. I called surf side and a service man came the next day. The filter was the problem, he fixed it, added chemicals and the next day it looked great. I have had this pool for 10 yrs and have always dealt with them. The price is fair and service excellent. The young man there didn't know much, he was new and I totally get that. Not his fault. But he said he would have the owner or manager call me the next day to sort out the details. It is with great pleasure that we recommend Surfside Pool Company for pool installation and maintenance thereafter. Surfside installed our inground pool 6 years ago. Tara and her staff were pleasant, honest, and timely during the installation. Her estimates were right on and she was also upfront with the potential "unexpected" costs such as the extra digging we required due to ledge located in our back yard. There were no surprises. The value add in dealing with Surfside is the maintenance and customer service. Whenever we go for water tests, Tara is always there to ensure all is well with our pool. She even writes the directions on the chemical containers so there is little chance for error on our part :-) We have Surfside winterize our pool in the fall and open it in the spring. We had a pool installed by Surfside last year. I've gone back and forwards whether I should post a damning review, but have since found friends who have similar experiences. It's not fair not to. They outsource almost everything, which may be normal for pool companies, they provide no project management or oversight. Here are some examples of the issues we had because of this. Our site is on a hill; from day one there was no plan for water management. As we embarked upon the project the excavator suggested the need for a French drain, which he dug a trench for. Surfside (or one of their contractors, I have no idea) put the pipe in and refilled the trench. After completion we had water runoff from the hill that was concentrated 10 ft away from the house. I decided to dig up the drain. They had used a flexible pipe that went up and down, up and down over its course by up to a foot. It was crushed in several places. I got the owner to come out and see this. He first denied the need to have a drain, then denied it was his problem as he hadn't suggested it. He called up the excavator while at my house and started swearing at him over the phone. My final contact with him was as he reversed up my drive still on the phone swearing at the excavator. I redug the trench and put rigid drain pipe in, angled appropriately. During heavy rain, the flow is easily 20 gallons a minute; clearly there's a need for a French drain. Another example of their inability to plan; the overflow for the pool was added late and was positioned so that the salt water drained across the lawn further eroding the hill. I could go on - there were plenty of other examples, just like there are plenty of other pool companies. If you go with Surfside plan on doubling the initial estimate, and the time it will take. read more

I can't speak for the other reviewers but overall our experience with Surfside was a very good one. We love our new pool! We are so glad we went with a liner pool instead of gunnite (which can crack and leaches out cement chemicals into your pool). I would just say that with any big project, you need to stay on top of things. Fortunately, each step of the pool implementation process is reviewable, not only by you but by the town inspectors. You might catch something a bit askew but Surfside was more than willing to fix any mistakes or modify things to meet customer preferences. Tara is a super professional sales person. And Dave, while he can be gruff, has 30 years experience and is the guy you want to be thorough and do a good job. All the other guys are hard workers and seem to do their jobs very professionally. Also, I found Surside's retail personnel excellent and knowledgeable. All you have to do is bring in a water sample and they tell you exactly what chemicals you need. Finally, Surfside was on the moderate/low end on the cost scale, so they won't break your budget! read more

Every contractor that I have talked to has asked me "who did your pool?", because so much was handled poorly. The pre-sales part was outstanding, very informative, and helpful. Once the contract was signed then thats when the problems started. Just to preface the story, I mentioned something to them about one of the issues that I had when I went back to pick up my cover and their response was "this was a cash and carry deal", and it wasn't even one of the things that I was blaming them for. Neither the pool company or the installer pulled a permit to have the pool installed, and luckily the town was very flexible and accommodating to compensate for this. The installer who they contract the install to fell short in quality big time. They wanted me to take a full day off from work to watch them setup the pool so I could give them a check when they were finished. My only other option was to give them a check in advance and go to work in Boston or to leave work (again from Boston) to come home and pay them when they were done. So I ended up giving them a check and trusting them on this. The subcontractor of the subcontractor who does the excavation may very well have caused our pool to one day spill 15000 gallons of water into our neighbors yard, and my neighbors' neighbors yard. When you excavate and have to build up an area of a pool, our landscaper who was in shock when they saw how they had done it, told us that when you build up x amount of inches you need to tamp it down, fill, tamp then fill etc. I was here when the excavator did it, and there was no packing down of the soil. Then the pool was put on a very close ledge of loose soil, being held up by the very edge with patio blocks. The landscaper said, with few heavy downpours, the pool is going start to collapse from underneath, weakening the frame as it goes. In addition the installers left a big pile of sand in my driveway for me to take care of. The guy who closed my pool, asked me if that pile was from the install and I told him yes. And his response was "And they just left it here for you to clean up?" I spoke to our new pool company as well as the contractor who closed the pool this fall and they both said, we needed an inflated pillow under the cover. Our sales man from Surfside, insisted that we didn't need one. He also said that in July that he was giving us enough chemicals with the startup kit that would probably last us through the rest of the season. If the rest of the season ends in mid-August he was probably right. Finally the sinkable ladder that you need to fill up with water in order for it to weigh it down, had a huge gash in it that would not let you fill up one side of the pool, if the sales rep who had put the ladder together had stayed long enough to fill it up with water he would have seen it. In fairness to him, we are planning to put a deck up to the pool on the back of our house so the ladder will be obsolete very soon, so I never called him back to have him replace it. To be honest, I didn't want to hassle with them because I found a company much closer to us that has provided 5 YELP Star service since we had the pool installed. Pre-sales was a 4 star, the final overall score is more like a 1 star. All i can say is it is more like a "Cash and Carry" shop. read more

Follow thru to repair damage they cause is sorely lacking! I had a new liner put in this past September, in a new pool put in this past July. The installer came, put it in and caused a couple of dents in my new pool wall at the bottom! It's now mid December and it still has not been fixed. The installer keeps calling every few weeks telling me he's coming this week without fail - this week has come and gone for over three months now. I'm very worried if we get a lot of snow that the dents left in the pool wall will weaken the whole pool and I'll have to replace it again. The installation was very expensive. Trying to get their mistakes corrected is looking like an impossibility. I have emailed the store again and this time had to threaten to sue if any damage occurs to my new pool. I bought a house a few years ago which had a pool that Surfside Pools had installed in the 70's. I recently had Surfside Pools replace the liner and renovate the deck area. Not only were the staff exceptionally helpful, reliable, and pleasurable, but they also helped my husband and I to make informed decisions regarding which liner and filter would best suit my family's needs, as we have two dogs. They gave us professional insight and even made the recommendation of a new design for the concrete patio. My pool area still looks terrific. I still rely on Surfside Pools to help me open, close, and keep the water clear all summer long. The staff is very patient, knowledgeable, skillful, and easy to talk to. I purchased a pool from Surside and it was a nightmare. The pool filter was installed inorrectly and with a broken valve. The water was so cloudy you could not see the bottom and the filter was spraying sand into the pool. They did fix the filter but it took weeks to clear the water and we had to switch chemicals. We dealt with the owner and manager as well as consulted a lawyer due to the repetitive problems and no customer service. In the end we switched pool companies and have been MUCH happier with a knowledgeable and customer service oriented company. read more

I used Surfside Pools in September/October of this year. I have to say I was very happy with the service. After reading some of these reviews, I can't help but wonder if we used the same company?! I did do my research on Pool Companies before we selected Surfside Pools. I had about 5 pool companies come out to my home, and by far Surfside was the most professional company I dealt with. I tend to be a bit of a control freak, so, when placed in a situation where A) I know nothing about a subject and then B) have to place my trust in someone that I don't know, it makes me feel very vulnerable and anxious. I can honestly say that any time I called or emailed surfside pools, Tara emailed or called me back almost immediately. She was very in tune with me and when she went on vacation, she went so far as to have the owner of the company come out to my home on the day the project was scheduled to begin to offer me reassurance. The project began, and there were some hiccups (driver was late, stuck in traffic, not great about calling to tell me he was going to be late) but, if anyone has ever done construction on their home, it's par for the course... The demolition began, the pool went up without issue. The demolition guys were great! We had a tree "in the way" so he "knocked it over" for me without charge (this would have cost me at least $300 with a local tree company). He also dug a trench for us w/o charge, something we knew we'd need later. Our quote remained on budget to the penny. (It helps to know your land? My Mother in law knew that our property had great soil and that we were not going to run into ledge issues etc). They were very up front with me about the possibility of having to pay to remove the excess dirt. My landscapers were able to get creative with it, so, we paid nothing extra! To summarize, here's what I was looking for in a Pool Company... * Professionalism * Knowledgeable * Competitive Pricing * Quality Work * Patience/Customer Service * Professionalism- There aren't many things I asked Tara that she didn't know the answer to. If she didn't know the answer, she got the answer and called me back, what more could you ask for? * Knowledgeable- Again, this company was very knowledgeable!! In fact, before a hole was even dug, they said that because my land was pitched a certain way, I would ultimately need a trench to be dug to avoid getting excess water in my pool during times of inclement weather. (Then they dug the trench for me without charging me). * Competitive Pricing- They were right in the middle in terms of pricing. Some of the other pool company's were a little cheaper, but, those guys came to my home in dirty clothes, with missing teeth and well, just didn't leave me with that warm fuzzy feeling. I would rather have paid the extra money to have a professional company (like Surfside) to come to my home and do the job right! * Quality Work- There was not one thing done by Surfside Pools that I would consider shotty work. Nothing. My pool is beautiful, and hopefully, when we open it in the spring, we will enjoy every minute of it! * Patience/Customer Service- I honestly think I sent Tara in the upwards of 100 emails. I kinda felt bad when it was all over but she was great. I always got a timely response. ** Here are my final words- No one is perfect! The world of construction and contracting is not the same as the business world with what they are able to promise you. There are things like the weather that interrupt the flow of construction or parts that didn't come in on time, or someone gets sick and can't work that day. Things happen that are going to delay your project from time to time. Trusting the people you hire is so important, and for me, of the five pool companies I interviewed, I trusted Surfside the most and do not regret hiring them. After 38 yrs of opening and closing my in ground pool I've experienced very few problems. I worked 35 yrs as a machinery engineer so I was able to fix all my minor plumbing and repairs. 2014 opening did not go so well. After pressuring up the system I found the filter to be damaged by winter freeze. I was able to stem the flow from a gusher to a trickle and got the pool cleaned up and stable. I was leaving the country on a trip shortly so I started calling pool services for help. I would have installed a replacement myself but medical issues preclude that option. No one returned my calls except Surfside of Acton. In a few days time Tom, the installer came out and did a great job installing the new filter. Thank you Surfside for the fast response time and service. I know everyone's problems are an emergency to them and want the job done yesterday. You made the process easy. read more

We had our pool installed by surfside 2 years ago...where should I start? First they didn't sink the pool low enough, thereby leaving a 3 inch edge from the edge of our professionally installed paver patio. We had to pull up our patio and have stamped concrete installed. When we suggested that Surfside should pay for it, we were told that we would have to give them our paver blocks(that we paid for)! I asked them if they would like our patio set too. He then said well, we will lower the pool. Did he think we were idiots...it can't be done. When Surfside realized they couldn't get out of paying for THEIR mistake, all we got was attitude. My husband had to actually kick them off our property. Well...it is two years later and we are still dealing with their shotty work. It seems that instead of using hard PVC pipes they used the white bendable pipe that termites and other bugs love. What a headache. While having a pool put in is a worthwhile thing, please ask around about what company to use. They will send a salesperson to your house that you find very knowledgable and respectable but then they don't back up their word. When entering into an area that you are unfamiliar with, you should be able to rely on the expertise of the professional to help you through. We feel like we were taken, and still are. read more

we engaged surfside pool for a fiberglass pool manufactured by san juan pools of lakeland florida in the early summer of 2013. from the beginning there was shear incompitance in the installition. the pool was placed so high that runoff from the patio would have run into my basement bulkhead and flooded my basement. the pool was also unlevel by at least 6 inches. when the pool was being filled, water ran out of the deep end before it reached the last step in the shallow end. surfside then tried to fix the unlevelness and in doing so left huge voids under the floor of the pool. the pool then split in the middle from no support. it was decided that the vouids were so substantial that the pool needed to be completely removed from the hole. the installer quit and walked off the job claiming that surfside did not pay him enough and was always crying about money. another contractor came in and ripped the pool recklessely from the hole and set it on my driveway for repair. we were leaving on vacation and we were promissed another installer recommended by san juan would come in and re set the pool while we were away. we returned to find the pool re installed and everything connected again, but the pool seemed to off level in a few places by the house. we thought we could live with this as it looked like maybe tile could solve the issue. the repair to the pool was a different issue. you could very clearly see the repairs in 8 ft. deep water. san juan sent a technician back out with a rep. from the coating company to review the issue. the color match was a difference between a white and light blue. i mean it was terriable, we spent so much money and this is what we are left with a two tone pool. rick from surfside has been one of the most abrasive people i have ever delt with. he has blammed everyone, for everything and yet he is never onsite to oversee anything. i begain to call him "point the finger rick" this is how bad he is. he balamed to contractor, the installer ,the landscaper, the manufacturer and even us once for picking that color. the manufacturer is delivering a new pool next week......i am terrified to let surfside touch it. please, for anyone concidering a new pool......stay away from surfside pools and san juan pools. read more
