Super 7 roll, uni and scallop sashimi

Always the freshest fish and selections by the master sushi chef Kazu! No one does it like him & although he is the only chef there, we never leave disappointed. To know that he has mastered this skill all the way from Japan and loves what he does makes me feel that when I eat sushi here, it is the most authentic, tasteful, and satisfying experience. You are not coming here for fish covered in sauce & fried tempura, which is usually a very typical American smothered in crap style sushi lol. You are coming here for fresh fish that is handled with high expertise & if you have a mature pallet you will enjoy the dishes here very much. From uni, to red snapper, to salmon and toro. It's a great place for an authentic sushi night. And they also have a great green tea ice cream from Japan.

Lotsa take out from Sushi by Kazu. No fake reviews!

This has been our go to place for the last 15+ years! Miyumi San and Kazu San serve the best Sushi in Monmouth county. His sushi is art work and always surpasses my expectation. They are back open for sit down and it's just that much better than take out! They have their regulars there and have a loyal following for a reason.

I had somewhat higher expectations of this place, but I was frankly a little disappointed. The price wasn't crazy expensive, so I wasn't too perturbed about that. But the reviews led me to believe that the sushi was super fresh, and I didn't leave with that sentiment. They serve uni, my favorite, which is a bit more difficult to find in our area. But after ordering a variety of sashimi and a roll, I was left with a fishy taste in my mouth. And good sushi should not be fishy, meaning its not very fresh. I'm also a big on service, and I believe the eating out experience shoudn't be hindered by the service you receive, but only amplified. The wife of the owner seemed to be friendly to every single table in the restaurant (though not as many as one would think were filled on a Saturday night), except for ours. Save your money and go somewhere else.

I don't go to a restaurant to be treated badly. It's happened several times...3 strikes and you're OUT.

My order was 12 piece sushi nigiri and a snow ocean roll. Food was delicious. Will go back. The scallop nigiri was my favorite.

That sadly was the best part of the night. We ordered; 8 AYCE and 2 ordered ala carte. My wife's vegetarian and doesn't eat much and my mom doesn't eat raw sushi and ordered the teriyaki shrimp. 1. The service is horrible. We waited 20mins to get our first appetizers. The waitress just dropped off plates and didn't explain what they were. My mom noticed the table next to us ordered what she got and a few minutes later, the waitress asked if she received her entree, which she replied no, and then she went to the table next to us and grabbed their plate and brought it back to the kitchen. We assume they reheated and replated the dish because it was way overcooked. 2. Long wait. Some items didn't arrived after over an hour and we asked about them multiple times. As we were ordering our 2nd round, we just reordered them. We got our waters refilled often but they never checked in to see if we were receiving our food or if we wanted to order more. Like they didn't ask one time. 3. Lost in translation. My parents are immigrants, so I am pretty understanding but the waitress didn't understand much of what I was saying and when I asked for extra ginger while pointing at it she looked very confused. I also asked her what a few items were when she brought them, and she didn't respond. 4. 10% coupon: don't bother trying to use the 10% off coupon from their own website. When we asked for the check, I showed her the coupon and she looked confused like I made it up and I let her know it was from their website under "coupons". She went to the back to ask about it and returned to say it was for online orders only. I mentioned that the coupon doesn't have any fine print except it can't be used with any other offers, and she didn't try to help at all which was frustrating. At the end of the day, it was probably one of the worst meals I've ever had. The food quality was ok except for my mom getting a reheated meal. But the service was terrible. It sucks to have to wait so long for food and things coming out randomly and my son and wife waiting over an hour for their items while others are pretty much done. Save yourself the aggravation and try something else.

Then they said actually it was fine, we could sit there because another table would open up for the reservation. We sat down, ordered drinks, got settled. A few minutes later a different waitress came over and told us we had to get up because the table was reserved and "she didn't know." No real apology. No manager. Just "you need to move." At that point we just left. Mistakes happen. But asking customers to get up after they're already seated because of your poor internal communication is bad service. Doing it with zero ownership or effort to make it right makes it worse. The food here is fine. It's not so incredible that it makes up for being treated like an inconvenience. Now that they're getting busier, it feels like customer service has slipped even more from their previously just acceptable level. Plenty of other sushi spots around that don't make you get up mid-meal. We won't be back.

The sashimi presentation is also a miss, served in small individual aluminum containers instead of laid out on a shared platter. It feels inefficient and less appetizing than grabbing fresh cuts with tongs. That said, the Chinese food side is actually solid. The BBQ squid stands out as one of the better items, while the ribs were disappointing, too fatty and drenched in sauce. I skipped the hot pot since the meats in the fridge didn't look particularly fresh or appealing. Compared to other locations, the East Brunswick spot seems to do a better job with both quality and keeping the sushi stocked. Drinks are another weak point. The bubble teas are overly sweet and not very good, though kids will probably enjoy them. I'd come back for some of the Chinese dishes and a few sushi pieces, but overall it feels overpriced for what you get.
