Tuesday and Saturday is 30% off sushi rolls (maki and chef specials). The prices at first seem a little high, but then see the portions and they are correct. Wonderful sushi in Lafayette!! Firstly, go on a Thursday! This is happy hour for dinner hours qualifying dozens of tasty rolls for 50% off. We ordered 8 rolls (3 of which were specialty) for $40. We had to wait 40 minutes for a table for 5, but it was extremely worth it! You know that based off of over a dozen others willing to wait outside for a table. The restaurant is not very large but clean and open providing for a nice atmosphere. They also sell a plethora of really cute Japanese and Korean candies, trinkets, and cookery like sushi erasers and bibimbop stone bowls. Now for the sushi - extremely fresh!!! And the variety is unmatched. The creativity which they provide is also noteworthy, offering fun options like the Dragon ball - a fried sushi ball served cut open over a bed of lettuce and decorated with various vegetables and rolls served on fire - literally flame torched covered in flames when served to your table. Their negiri selections are extensive and impressively priced featuring fresh cuts of tuna, octopus, and squid. This place is just amazing and I can't compliment it enough. Oh Sushi Don how you have continued to fail me. I once loved you, now every time I visit I am more and more disappointed. The past few times I've eaten there I've thrown up shortly after the meal, although the food is tasty. We pulled into the parking lot, panicking that Gaza II had gone by the wayside. Fortunately, the renamed restaurant still has Korean offerings on the menu, newly supplemented with sushi rolls and other Japanese appetizers. I ordered the dolsot bibimbap with fried tofu and medium-spicy sauce, which came in a squirt bottle; this was a great way to personalize the spice level. My dining partner ordered the same, with teriyaki sauce. Although the bibimbap could have had more tofu, we both really enjoyed our dishes and the diverse amount of veggies thrown in (exotic mushrooms, seaweed, broccoli, sprouts, etc.), all topped with a mildly runny egg that cooked as you mixed everything together. An unexpected bowl of run-of-the-mill miso soup was included in the meal. Our server brought a complementary tuna roll to sample, with onion crispies on top. We were very happy for this freebie, and preferred its taste to the tempura-cream cheese-imitation crab roll that our dining mate ordered. I was sad that they did not bring out as many small Korean dishes (banchan) to sample as during our first Gaza visit, with one small dish of kimchi and sprouts to sample between the 4 of us, but still greatly enjoyed our dinner and experienced relief that the Korean specialties still remained. Sushi Don is one of my favorite lunch restaurants and one of the two top places for sushi in town. The staff is super friendly and welcoming and the service is fast, even when they are busy. They have their lunch special which will make this one of the cheapest quality lunches you can get without sacrificing even a tad bit of quality. I have one request for improvement: napkins! This is a reoccurring topic that a table is not equipped with napkins. It's not a big deal, so still 5 stars. My recommendation is to stay away from the special rolls if you don't want to eat messy (e.g. business lunch) and to go for the fire roll if you want to impress someone or make the visit memorable. Oh I've been to this place so many times! The lunch menu is a steal & I love to go there on the weekends to grab brunch with friends after a long night of drinking. You can get a bowl of Yukgaejang soup (spicy beef with vegetables & glass noodles) with any maki roll of your choice on the side plus the salad & miso soup for just a little under 10 dollars. Can't beat that! They have a variety of sushi rolls to choose from. Standard special rolls like Rainbow or Dragon rolls are, ugh, standard -just like what you would get at any other sushi restaurant. The Don's Specials features some rolls that are unique & more on the adventurous side for some people. The Super OMG roll is the one that gets lit on fire to be served warm and is pretty popular. I liked the presentation of the roll and the idea of watching fire goes off on your plate, but the taste was ok. The sushi rice was too moist and because the roll was served warm, the flavor of spicy crab & avocado did not come out as nice as they would sound together. To me, it was just a sweet, warm roll - not necessary a bad thing, but there are certainly other rolls on the menu that I'd prefer over this one. The Mountain roll is very good. The crunch and fish tempura added a unique texture to the rice and the ingredients were well balanced. Maki rolls are hard to mess up so they are all pretty yummy. If you're ordering an regular entree but also want some sushi, adding a maki roll on the side would be prefect because you can still enjoy the fresh fish without overstuff yourself. Salmon skin roll is the one you should avoid though. A good salmon skin roll should be crispy, but theirs tastes very fishy and the skin is soft which makes it difficult to chew and you can still see the layers of fat on the skin - a huge turnoff! Sushi Don is my go-to place for sushi & comfort Korean food. I also like Heisei's sushi, but Sushi Don offers a much more reasonable price. I'm only giving it a four star because sometimes the service can be slow. There were a couple times where I literally had to raise my hand in the air to get the server's attention. read more

Great sushi place! I wanted sushi for my birthday dinner, and we saw this place had good reviews so we decided to try it. My whole family (2 adults, 3 elem./middle age kids) is very glad we did. Some of the rolls we tried were the Super OMG, dragon, Crazy Horse, as well as some nigiri and other classics. All of the rolls were great! Crazy Horse was probably my favorite tasting, and Super OMG won on presentation. Our server was very friendly, and even got out a special treat when my son told her it was my birthday. I stopped by this place on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. The decor is simple and clean, and the menu is HUGE. It offers both Korean and Japanese dishes, various specials, and was honestly a bit too large for me. I spent 10 mins just staring at the menu because I couldn't decide what I wanted. Finally, I ended up ordering a spicy kani salad appetizer and a Korean chirashi (or hwe dup bap) which comes with miso soup and salad. The appetizer had just the right amount of heat but was a bit too heavy on the mayo. Still tasty though. The chirashi was much larger than I expected and was topped with shrimp, chopped tuna and salmon, roe, crab, avocado, seaweed, and other veggies. There was also a sweet spicy sauce that you pour over it. I've eaten many hwe dup baps before at other restaurants and have had better. However, this version was still really good and worth the $14.
