It is sometimes a challenge to consistently produce first-rate quality and service when you are overwhelmed by demand, but Sushi Jin did that on my recent Friday evening (prime time) visit. The place was packed, they had six sushi chefs on staff. Our party of four enjoyed many courses over several hours (my fave was the wagu tacos). Bottom line ,,, Sushi Jin is now my new absolute favorite place to dine in Fairfield County, if price is no object. Our elaborate seven-course dinner was $600 for four people, a dinner for two with fewer courses could be under $100. The ambiance is less than optimal (poor acoustics, tables closer than optimal), but if I were the owner, I would absolutely make the same choices given the demand. The food quality is outstanding. Nothing even close nearby. The staff was remarkably accommodating to our desires and availabilities (booths are more pleasurable than tables). read more

The food was bomb tho. The crispy rice with spicy tuna hit like crack. My steak and veggies hibachi was scrumptious. I used my chop sticks the entire time too. My hand cramped up a little bit. Really impressed. Place has a nice ambiance and beautiful decor, but most importantly -- the food is delicious. The soup dumplings were fresh and delicious, but the sushi was our favorite part. Love Sushi Jin. Ate here last minute at the sushi bar. The "tacos" are beautiful and delicious, each a scoop of fresh fish (salmon yuzo, tuna poke, hamachi and scallions) nestled between taco-shaped dried seaweed. I had the sushi-sashimi combo and the fish was pristinely fresh and so pretty. Split a shrimp tempura roll, which was good. Service great and friendly, definitely unrushed. First time dining at Sushi Jin - and it won't be our last! I am ambivalent on giving out 5 stars which I rarely do. On the one hand I really don't want to let the secret out because it's not the biggest place so I am not sure they can handle many more customers, but they definitely deserve my endorsement as I am not sure what they could possibly have done better! Convenient parking at the church across the street, very nice ambiance, our server was Kevin was great, and most importantly we really enjoyed our meal! It was our anniversary and we were tempted to try their omakase, but we ended up going with their restaurant week prix fixe menu instead which included a cocktail, appetizer, entree and dessert. We ended up adding CA and Hokkaido uni sushi to top it all off - delicious! Everything was plated nicely , portions good and flavors awesome. Just ok. Sushi is serviceable and good for weeknight takeout but be prepared for them to screw up your order if you call-in. My kids like the miso and the chicken fried rice. Overpriced of course (but that's Westport for you). And I find the vibe in this place to be off. The front of house is curt, barely polite, and off putting. Terrible first impression. What's uneven is the readiness of a table with reservation and service...we often wait 15-30 min past our sched reservation for our table in the evening (6:30-8p) which is tough with kids and frustrating when you make a reservation and service is not quick, we often wait 10-15 min before we get a server at the table. Lunch has always been quick and easy so the uneven experiences we've had seems to be in the prime dining hours. read more

Been here numerous times because the food is consistently great and the vibe is excellent. One of my favorite sushi spots. Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the service can sometimes feel a little like "get you in and get you out." A little more warmth and friendliness would make the experience even better. Checked out this new spot to see what their sushi was like! My husband got their omakase which he really enjoyed! I tried the hand rolls and the soup dumplings! The dumplings were the perfect amount of soup and meat and very flavorful! All the fish was very fresh! The restaurant is a pretty good size too and as our time went on there it got more and more packed! Staff is very friendly and we'll definitely be back to try something new next time! read more

Place went downhill, the service is absolutely terrible, food quality has suffered. Several times they have screed up the reservation. Tonight we were added to the wait list and told it's like be a 15 minute wait for a table. Brought my whole family over there. Upon arrival greeted by the unfriendly hostess. She said they did not have any tables all night and that there was a problem with the reservation system. They offered nothing and showed no consideration. We have seen a decline in the food since they have opened and gotten busier. This place would never survive in NYC, Portland or Austin where there are multiple high quality dining options. read more

I had only ever heard terrible things about this place, but decided to give it a chance anyway. Big mistake. Do NOT order from here, especially online. We placed an order at 6:15 PM for five people and paid an already outrageous $400. We were told the food would be ready at 7:10 PM. We arrived at 7:15 and surprise nothing was ready. Fine. Things happen. No problem....By 7:30, twenty minutes past the promised time, I approached the front stand again. The hostess and front staff stood there completely unconcerned, barely making eye contact. The main host seemed overwhelmed and incapable of handling herself while speaking to multiple frustrated customers. All she could say was "we can call when it's ready." Meanwhile, I watched people who walked in for reservations AFTER we arrived sit down, eat their meals, and leave all while we were still waiting. I made a friend bonding over how long our orders have taken. After waiting over an hour past the promised time, I finally had to request a refund. I went home to five hangry people and zero food. Overall, the management is rude, shockingly disorganized, and based on the experience alone, I highly doubt the food is worth the ridiculous price.
