Sushi Kanata is a great option if you're craving sushi and don't feel like driving in town. Their sashimi is fresh and flavourful (moreso than others). We've discovered that the a la carte option is the best option if you're going there for sushi and sushi alone (rather than other things like beef teriyaki etc). Two of us can get a sushi combo and be full for 25$ (including tip). If you're looking for more than sushi, you do get good value for the all you can eat.

When you walk-in to Sushi kanata you are welcomed by cozy decor and small space. The place is a little dark for my taste, but nothing too unpleasant. The waiteresses were also very nice and dirty dishes were taken away fast. Food came fairly fast too. Unfortunately that's all the good things I have to say about this place. The menu is decent (look at pictures). The quality of sushi and sashimi is just unacceptable. The sashimi has tiny pieces, its dry and fairly tasteless. The dinner price is $22.99 and ottawa has much better sushi to offer if you go downtown or merivale area. I would avoid this place unless you must have sushi in Kanata.

We had to go back twice and still didn't get items promised in the Sashimi platter. Do not expect to eat gluten-free!

Do not expect to eat gluten-free or even get what you ask for. We ordered the Kanata Sashimi because in the menu, there is no fake crab and no fake egg. Both of these have wheat. The platter was generous but had tons of fake crab and egg! So we drove all the way back and I explained very nicely that an error had occurred and we needed to get the sashimi as described in the menu due to allergy to wheat. No soup. No salad. Still charges me full price and the seafood was skimpy to say the least.

The all you can eat menu.

They don't have the most flavourful rice in the world, but all the sushi is solidly good, and prices are a bit lower than many other sushi joints in Ottawa.

Much better than grocery store sushi, but obviously not as good as those fancy Japanese restaurants. For the price though, and for what it is, I'd say it was excellent. I feel that the quality is similar to Kiramaki Sushi in Old Ottawa South and Sushi29 in Blackburn Hamlet. I called in the order for pickup and was told it would be 30 minutes. I arrived after 40 minutes and it was ready waiting for me. I asked for no sesame seeds and that was no problem at all. Service was courteous and efficient. The Maki Combo B had 6 pieces of each of the following: California, Cucumber Shrimp Tempura, Salmon, Spicy Tuna, and Cucumber Avocado. The sushi rice was a good texture, not too dry nor too mushy, but could have used a bit more rice vinegar seasoning in my opinion. The rolls held together well and did not fall apart when I picked them up. The rice to other ingredients ratio was satisfactory. Not too much rice, but not just the thinnest amount of rice (which is my preference) like Shinka Sushi (mind you Shinka Sushi is so much more expensive, lol). The Cucumber Shrimp Tempura roll was my favourite. The tempura shrimp was crunchy and the cucumber was fresh. The California roll was good, but rather unremarkable. The Salmon roll was really boring, it literally only had salmon in it. The Spicy Tuna roll had tempura bits in it and was drizzled with a spicy mayo. I liked the texture and mildly spicy kick. The Cucumber Avocado roll was literally just cucumbers and avocado, so another boring roll. However, the avocado and cucumbers were fresh. No black spots on the avocado and the cucumbers had a good crunch to them. Combos come with Miso soup. The miso soup was good, not too salty and had some wakame seaweed and cubes of soft tofu. It came in a plastic container though. I would have preferred a paper bowl. There are a few seats inside to eat, but it's really more a takeout joint. Decor and ambiance are very casual. If you eat in, expect a lot of food couriers and people picking up takeout hanging around. The restaurant is in a strip mall. Plenty of free parking in the strip mall parking lot.

My husband and I were running some errands out in Kanata/Stittsville and popped into Maki Sushi + Poke for a midday meal. It was 3pm on a Sunday and we were the only customers, lol. I love having restaurants to ourselves, haha. It's a casual type eatery where you order and pay at the cash register and if you're eating there, they'll bring the food to you. Service was great. They even brought out a big glass bottle of water for us. And the water was so cold. I love really cold water! Plus it was a hot day, so we chugged it down, lol. Decor is minimalist but clean and modern looking. I got the Maki Family Set ($19.90) and my husband got the Shrimp Poke Bowl ($18.50). My Maki Set came with 6 California rolls, 6 Spicy California rolls, 6 yam rolls and 3 salmon nigiri. I requested no sesame seeds and my order came as requested. The yam rolls had yams, cucumbers, avocado, a sweet teriyaki sauce and tempura bits. The spicy California rolls had chopped up imitation crab mixed with spicy mayo and cucumber with additional spicy mayo drizzled on the rolls. The California rolls were the classic imitation crab, cucumber and avocado. No masago though. The rolls were tasty, but the rice was a tad bland and could have used more seasoned rice vinegar, in my opinion. I also felt the rolls could have been a bit more tightly rolled because they fell apart easily when I picked them up. This is not gourmet sushi, but casual eatery sushi. For what it is, it's good and very reasonably priced. My husband enjoyed his poke bowl. It had sushi rice, iceberg lettuce, corn, cucumber, avocado, cabbage, masago, seaweed salad, shrimp and spicy mayo. This location is their second location. Their first is in Kingston, Ontario. This location in Stittsville opened up in November 2023. The entire plaza where the restaurant is in is a new development. It was an empty field only 5 years ago. Lots of free parking in the plaza parking lot. (143)

I've had sushi plenty in Vancouver and Toronto, and this place was disappointing in comparison (even to Toronto sushi). I think AYCE sushi is more popular in Ottawa. This is one of the few places that do a la carte. I found the prices to be a bit expensive for what you get. 3 of us shared a sushi and sashimi party tray. It came to around $30 a person, and was quoted on the menu to be for about 3-4 people. I would say it's barely enough for 3 very small people, let alone 4. It did not come with miso soup or salad. The quality of the sushi was nothing to be amazed about. Although it was probably a bit better than AYCE, I think for the prices, I'd expect better quality sushi. If I had to, I'd choose AYCE sushi over this in Ottawa. Also, in terms of authenticity, I think this place is Chinese owned. It is a small establishment, so if you want to be sure you get a table, I'd recommend reservations. There is street parking available on Somerset. I likely won't be back, and will definitely try my hardest to persuade my friends to go elsewhere if they want to come back.
