First I want to start with how friendly the service was, I hope nothing but the best for this business. But I wish the fish quality was better. I had the scallop and tobiko nigiri; both were not fresh at all. The scallop was dry and a bit tough. The tobiko was slight hard and chewy. Very strange consistency for these two items. Overall, if you want Americanized rolls with poor fish quality or no fish at all, this spot is probably for you. On a recent Friday night, I decided that the kitchen was closed at our house and that sushi sounded tempting. We tried a few rolls: Norton Roll, Kentucky Roll, and No 1 Roll. They all looked exquisite and fresh as we unboxed them. Across the board, we found the flavor to be underwhelming on all of the rolls. If we ordered again, we would only get the Norton Roll. It was a bit disappointing, but I would give it another try and order some spicier rolls on my own (I was limited this time since I split with my husband, who likes a spicy level negative on anything). Next level food! I loved this place for many reasons the first is that my miso soup was hot and flavorful especially after a rainy day. The second is that my ramen was SPICY! Like I was holding back tears it was PERFECT! But that's because I always say I wants spicy and it's usually mild at other places also the chicken was thinly sliced and perfectly cooked! Another plus is that my niece and nephew, who are very picky eaters ate most of their food! My Brice lived her rice and ate it up she also ate most of her chicken nuggets and my nephew really enjoyed the beef teriyaki. The noodles in the yakisoba were buttery and delicious. The sushi was my not so favorite part because it tasted warm... I'm not sure of this is intentional but I am used to it being more colder except for when it's tempura. While the sauce and the dicho was yummy the fact that it was warmer felt weird but that's just me! Was our 2nd time trying Sushi Master. I can't tell you what the food is like since we were never served. We sat down and the Chef brought out a menu. We were then ignored for 15 minutes....no drinks, no acknowledgement we were even there....we were 1 of 4 tables. The 2 servers spent their time only taking care of a few takeout orders. After 15 minutes, we got up and put our coats on to leave and at that time one of the servers finally came over as we were leaving. I wish we could give a positive review, but we cannot. We can say that the restaurant down the street that got our business did a very nice job tonight. We will not be back at Sushi Master....there are too many other good restaurants to choose from to spend our $$ on future date nights. read more

I went here for lunch. It wasn't crowded at all. I looked into different sushis and other menu items they had and finally settled in for the Super Volcano sushi and the chicken curry. The Super volcano Sushi was really good. It had all the subtle flavours that you'd expect and the spicy crab was also flavourful. The chicken curry was mediocre at the best. The gravy was watered down and the chicken was a tad bit chewy. Nothing to write about. In fact, if you go here don't get the chicken curry. I am giving it 4 stars because I feel I ordered the wrong thing. It got to be around $26 for both the items. It is lacking compared to places in NY that have red bean ice cream but in person I would say it is 5 stars; however, when getting takeout it is more a 2 or 3 because little things are constantly missed such as not putting eel sauce on rolls, putting inadequate amounts of tofu and seaweed in miso soup, tough squid, etc; now I've only experienced things going wrong for takeout not in person, but still it is enough to make me rather not order at all; and since I rarely have reason to physically eat out, it's unlikely I'll order again. read more

My daughter and I came here for lunch and we were the only two in the restaurant. The place was spotless, and service was fast so I was apprehensive when walking in, but decided to give it a shot. The sushi chef seated us and handed us our menus, we were given ice waters almost immediately after taking our seats. Everything was clean and the whole restaurant was in impeccable shape. We opened our menus and I was glad to see a bento box on the lunch menu. Each of us ordered one, and were given a choice of protein: chicken, beef, or salmon. My daughter ordered the beef and I ordered the salmon. As soon as we placed our orders, everyone went to work: in the kitchen, behind the sushi bar; I could tell that everything was being freshly prepared. Shortly after, we were served bento boxes the size of cafeteria trays, which included: three pieces of nigiri, one whole California roll, 2 gyozas, tempura vegetables and shrimp, and the protein we ordered. There was so much food, we obviously could not complete it in one sitting. The only thing I didn't enjoy were the tempura veggies because they were slightly too greasy. During our dining experience, we were asked multiple times if we were ok, if we needed anything, so it proved that they appreciate their patrons. We came this spot after looking at the reviews on Yelp. Service was excellent and the rolls were prepared to perfection. We had a simple Philly roll and the super volcano, which were both tasty. The atmosphere was nice and casual. A bit like a cafe vibe. We saw people getting carry out and assumed it was a big part of their business. We both ordered Sapporo Beers which came cold on the outside but a little warm after pouring in a glass. The bathrooms were clean and offered an interesting faucet design for hand washing. One upgrade in this area would be an automated sensor for the paper towel dispenser. Manually winding out paper after washing your hands is hassle. After Saying that, I would have no problem taking my toddler into this bathroom. I don't think we'll go back, but if you are in the area check it out, Norton Commons is an interesting area of Louisville. read more
