If there is an open reservation, don't think and just go taste! A worthy omakase. The spot itself is a small intimate setting with just 5 seats (although could seat a 6 person group), it is a one man show (literally only one chef) with the chef providing the experience from start to finish. And the experience from start to finish was DELICIOUS. We arrived late but the chef was accommodating and very attentive with the service to course the items out appropriately. The sake we ordered from a small size menu recommended by the chef (Ohmine) was refreshing - was in fact, too easy to drink and finish the bottle of... Every bite of the sushi was just what my taste buds wanted. My favorites included the king salmon (with the perfect salt on top), Toro, and uni. Happily could've been buried alive in that uni. He also had his own special pieces which were unique and amazing too - but I personally loved all the classic nigiri's. So fresh as a balanced, quality sushi where you can taste the clean ocean with each of these fish. Loved the fatty umami flavor of some of the sushi. I left with a very full and happy stomach.

This might just be the best sushi I've had in LA considering all factors - the food, the service, the price. The chef is sooo sweet and kind, and cares so much about the food and his craft. You feel like you are in Tokyo. Even his dishware is just so cute and thoughtful. I cannot wait to come back here!

I drove up from San Diego to try Sushi Masuyoshi and I would do it again! This was one of the best omakase I've had for several reasons: the dining intimacy (5-6 seats max), dish creativity, high quality fish and reasonably priced. Chef Masuyoshi is the sweetest and clearly passionate about his craft. It was fun to hear his stories and how he opened his fairly new spot. He's an impressive one man operation - serving, entertaining, cleaning all while preparing a delicious 18 course meal. The menu changes based on the fish available at the time, which he has flown in from Japan multiple times during the week. The highlights for me was the Chefs Special Item; which was scallops, uni and truffle with gold flecks, the O-toro, which was a huge piece of super fatty tuna that melts in your mouth and the assorted tempura, which included fresh eel, octopus, mushroom and shishito pepper. Masuyoshi-san also makes his own ginger and it is THE BEST. Don't let 18 courses deceive you - I thought I'd still be hungry but I was pleasantly full by the end. I'd highly recommend this place for your next omakase outing.

We celebrated our anniversary with omakase! Masuyoshi is a sushi master -- every visit is amazing. Hands down the best sushi spot in LA. Thank you!

Truly outstanding omakase experience. Master sushi chef who provided highest quality food at great value. Every dish was good and unique and I would highly recommend Masuyoshi to any sushi fan!

Another gem to add to my favorites list! Small, cozy and intimate setting, this 5 seat venue truly brings out your social skills. The chef is balancing both cooking and giving you a unique experience. So if you are able to befriend your dinner mates, then the evening will be three times as fun! Why three? One for the amazing food--that truffle salt yum. Two, the chefs interactions as he tries to cook, clean, serve. And finally, three, bringing an easy and fun environment to eat and socialize.

A simultaneously sublime yet humble omakase experience.  Located in a small 4-6 seat sushi bar, it's a intimate yet very approachable space with soft jazz playing and a vibe of being taken care of in a personal setting. Be prepare to interact with the Chef and if you're coming with just two people, then the other two diners.  It's amazingly run single-handedly by the Taisho Masuyoshi-san who is humble, friendly, and put so much care and respect into each course.  As for the food itself, it's mind-blowing how one person can create such a amazing meal. There was over 20+ items he prepared in total so I will spare you each one but the Highlights of the meal were the charcoaled sashimi piece, all of the smoked Nigiri pieces, the Ankimo, Masunosuke, Aji and somewhat surprisingly, the Tempura as well as the Sweet Shrimp soup which was the most concentrated essence of shrimp and sea flavor I've ever had. The culinary journey Masuyoshi-san orchestrates is nothing short of extraordinary, especially for a single chef. There was over 20+ items he prepared in total so I will spare you each one and focus on the highlights. The charcoal-kissed sashimi offered a captivating depth of flavor, a testament to thoughtful preparation. Each of the smoked nigiri preparations demonstrated a nuanced understanding of how to elevate pristine seafood. The ankimo was a study in luxurious texture, the masunosuke pristine, and the aji remarkably vibrant. Even the tempura, often an afterthought in an omakase, surprised with its delicate crispness. Yet, the true revelation was the sweet shrimp soup--an intensely concentrated essence of the ocean, delivering the most concentrated essence of shrimp and sea flavor I've ever had. The flavors are bold and well balanced on the whole. Sure there's bound to be some misses - the scallop + uni + truffle nigiri paired 3 unnecessarily rich flavors that masked each other vs complemented, the Tamago (normally one of the pieces I look forward to the most) was forgettable in flavor despite ideal texture, and I personally like a more vingeared Shari overall for my Nigiri (might be more of a personal taste thing - Sushi Hashimoto in Tokyo has ruined most Shari comparisons for me). Regardless, it was an dining experience that absolutely lives rent free in your brain for how it feeds your soul and stomach in such a humble setting. Already plotting my return soon enough.

Wow. What an unforgettable meal. The sushi was phenomenal with a perfect, setting for truly enjoying the meal. I cant thank chef enough for hosting us in his great place. Each item was made with love and care and you could taste it in every bite. If you are a sushi fan, you have to add this place to your list.

Sushi Masuyoshi has quickly become my absolute favorite restaurant in LA. The atmosphere is unlike anywhere else -- with only five seats, it feels incredibly intimate, as though you've been invited into someone's home in Japan and a family member is preparing the most exquisite meal just for you. Watching every piece crafted right in front of you is such a special experience, and every bite is perfection. The ingredients are of the highest quality (yes, even A5 wagyu!) and the care that goes into each dish really shines through. It's the kind of place I dream about returning to again and again -- honestly, I'd be there every week if my budget allowed! Can't wait for my next visit.

I'm not even sure how I heard about this place, perhaps Instagram. I knew nothing about this chef' and didn't have much expectation as we just wanted to try something new. The chef previously served Omakase in homes as a private chef but he just opened this restaurant in Culver City. It's very small. Seats 5 at a counter and I would imagine as more people find out about this place reservations will be tough to get. I experienced many sushi restaurants and I must say this is right up there as one of my favs! Every single dish had so much flavor and was coursed just perfectly. All the flavors and textures were present. The price is $165/per person and you bring your own alcohol. I'm already thinking of my next visit!!

Absolutely amazing. By far the highest quality fish we have had at an omakase in LA. Ever since our trip to Japan last year, we always hold sushi and omakase experiences that we have to such a high standard and Sushi Masuyoshi completely exceeds that. Super authentic menu including monkfish liver, mackerel, and tons of uni. The Chef runs the whole operation by himself which is so impressive and admirable. He puts so much thought and care into each dish (hand sears each individual piece of fish with Japanese beechwood, precisely salts every component while plating, etc) We truly enjoyed every single bite we had tonight and will definitely be coming back. At $165/pp, I can confidently say that this is the best omakase deal in all of LA. If you're looking for an authentic, intimate, and deliciously adventurous experience, then I could not recommend this place enough.

Incredible experience all around! It felt like dining in Chef Masuyoshi's home. Every dish was incredible with a laid back atmosphere and jazz playing in the background. You can clearly taste the love in each dish.

We've been following Chef Hozumi since he catered a private omakase for our friend's birthday. He is incredibly meticulous and creative, but also shy and modest. We were excited to visit his new omakase restaurant! It is a super intimate environment, with 4-6 seats (generally prefers up to 5, but can fit 6 if everyone is a friend). He does everything from food preparation, service, and clean-up. He apologizes for the pace but I found it perfect to appreciate/digest every portion and chat with my friends :) Every piece tasted amazing and I'm not a big fan of uni or sea eel, but they both melted in my mouth At $165/pp, it felt very reasonable, and we were all stuffed afterward :) (no In-n-Out runs afterward haha). We plan to return soon :)

Best decision for our Reception/Baby Shower! (Incredible value & taste)…read more Chubby Fingers catered our event and it was absolutely wonderful! OMG... as I'm writing this, I'm still craving the food we had that day from Chubby Fingers! After doing multiple tastings with other caterers, we chose them for their generous portions and amazing value at a very competitive price point. Why we chose them: Before choosing them, we actually met with several other caterers and even did tastings to compare our options. What really stood out about Chubby Fingers was how generous and abundant their offerings were at a very similar price point. The value honestly surprised us in the best way. The Experience (Catering Drop-off): We ended up doing a catering drop-off, and even with that setup, you could truly feel the care and thought they put into everything. The presentation was beautiful and everything was packed so nicely -- it still felt very special and intentional. The Food (The highlight of our day!): On the day of the event, the food completely exceeded our expectations. Everything was fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. Our guests kept complimenting the food throughout the event, and several people even came up to ask where we found the caterer because they wanted the information for their own events. Our Menu Highlights: 1. Chubs Bossam: Slow-roasted caramelized pork shoulder with ssam bar (perilla leaves, lettuce, and samjang). Absolute hit! 2. Japchae: Korean sweet potato glass noodles with mushrooms and vegetables. 3. Gochujang Glazed Veggies: Roasted market vegetables with a subtle, delicious gochujang glaze. 4.Yuzu Tomato Salad: Heirloom tomatoes with greens and a refreshing yuzu vinaigrette (so fresh!). and the White Rice was included! The team was professional, responsive, and genuinely cared about making our day special. I'm so sad I didn't take more photos, I was so busy hosting and enjoying the event, but the presentation in person looked even better than the photos!) If you're planning an event, do yourself a favor and book Chubby Fingers--you won't regret it! I truly can't recommend them enough if you want to impress your guests!

Walked in expecting table service, but quickly realized it works more like a café: grab a menu, pick your food, order at the counter. Totally fine, just not obvious at first. I'll be honest -- tipping before the service and before the food arrives still feels strange to me. Maybe I'm spoiled by European-style service, maybe it's just a cultural thing. Not a dealbreaker, just something worth knowing. I went with a creamy cheese muffin, a latte, and Pollo ai Funghi. You choose a side with the chicken, and of course I picked the roasted potatoes. Total came out to $42.28. Credit where it's due: the guy at the register was solid. Calm, professional, explained the menu clearly, suggested options, and helped me make a decision without pushing anything. That matters. Coffee and the muffin came out almost immediately, which was both nice and slightly dangerous -- I had to resist finishing everything before the main dish showed up. I did start the latte anyway... couldn't help it. The muffin survived. Barely. About ten minutes later, the chicken arrived. And honestly -- it was excellent. Juicy chicken, mushrooms in a rich tomato-based sauce, everything balanced and comforting. The potatoes were good too, though I still don't quite understand why ketchup was included. It didn't need it. Overall? Good food. Pleasant atmosphere. Clean restroom (always appreciated). Nice interior. Smooth experience. Would I recommend it? Yes. Would I come back regularly? Probably not. It's a solid 5-star place, especially if you're nearby or passing through. Just not the kind of spot I'd go out of my way for -- and that's okay.
