don't go here if you have allergies and need accommodations. plus Danny, the manager was very rude. i went here with my family of at least 10 people. my partner has food allergies and they were not able to accommodate him so we brought food for him so we could still eat together. we had already ordered & were sitting outside with our food and Danny told my partner that he could not eat at the table because they don't allow outside food. he was told to eat alone down the street but we couldn't join him because we already had our food. Came here with a friend on a Tuesday afternoon for their lunch specials. It was a nice day out so we decided to sit outdoors on their spacious patio. I believe we were the first customers of the day and our server was very attentive and noticed our table wasn't cleaned from last night so she cleaned it right away. I always get spicy yellowtail rolls - and they're probably the best I've ever had in SD. I almost never write reviews, but this place deserves it. The customer service and location was great. We went on a Friday around 5pm and had a reservation. It wasn't really needed as it was not very busy. We ordered the salmon teriyaki, shrimp fried rice, caterpillar roll, rainbow roll, basic yellowtail and salmon rolls, and California rolls. Their rolls tasted fresh and were pretty good. The salmon teriyaki plate was average - good salmon. Everything else on the plate was okay. The shrimp fried rice was a disappointment though - small portion size, not much shrimp, and didn't taste good. We've never had bell peppers and zucchini in fried rice before and didn't like it in this dish. Service was good. Overall, this place was average for us. Add some wasabi on your own! The chicken katsu is a great entree package, but I would definitely NOT get it again. The chicken katsu tasted simile to a McDonald's chicken nugget to me and was too soggy but I'm hoping it's because of the takeout travel time.. I give this place 4 stars for the extremely satisfying and filling sushi (but it's knocked down a star because of the 2 star chicken katsu). We have done take out from Sushi Mori for quite some time. It's always excellent and scratches that itch for the old school experience but doesn't end there. What I like is some of the basics like Udon, properly made light and crispy Tempura-where the quality ingredients shine. It is simple food, but not so simple when you realize the amount of care it takes to meticulously source and prep things. The non traditional dishes here also really really shine. Sushi Mori gives the more modern dishes the same care and effort plus creativity to run with the hipsters constantly looking for the next trend and photogenic dish. You can have it all at Sushi Mori.
