Great sushi spot. The California rolls were fluffy and soft, and Combo Sushi B was a fun deal -- any specialty roll plus 8 pieces of nigiri. It even came with fatty tuna, which was such a treat. First of all- Food was very good. Fresh and tasty. Had three rolls, all of which tasted great. They could have been cut more evenly, however. Some pieces so thick and others thin. Seems like for $17 a roll or more, the care to cut the pieces evenly would be there. Or maybe that's just me. The service was great. Very nice server. The biggest reason they aren't getting a better review is due to the cleaning spray that has an overwhelming smell. I noticed it when we walked in. Sushi On kept spamming my husband IG feed and yes, it definitely worked. He couldn't get it out of his mind so we decided to order for DoorDash with some friends. We ordered the chirashi bowl, hamachi Kama, sashimi combo B, and 3 rolls (forgot the names) but we were limited bc one of our party is allergic to avocado. Most rolls have avocados. We did request no avocado on anything and they were pretty good except the chirashi had avocado. But the other rolls didn't. I must say the raw fish was good. No fishy taste and no bad food reaction. Stopped in for lunch since it's real close to work. Tried one of their premium rolls called the Salmon Lover for $23. The snow crab & salmon belly is fresh. Whatever sauce that was drizzled on it complimented the roll well. I have been here once before and overall it's an average sushi restaurant in a busy shopping center. 2 sushi chefs and 1 server. It seems that the majority of sushi restaurants, in CA at least, have pretty much the same menu with a few variations. That's true about Sushi On, but they do it really well. The nigiri is fresh, nicely chilled and well portioned. The tempura is light and crispy. The rolls are sized to share and not overly sauced (which I like). The service is very good, the servers and chefs are very pleasant. As a bonus, they often play Wicked Tuna on the TVs, feels like "How It's Made" for sushi, which is fun. We've been many times and our experience has been consistently positive. It's a very solid, if very typical, Sushi spot. read more

Ahh, Sushi On ... not entirely sure what to make of this place. On one hand, it has a lot of things that I like; it's small, a dive bar atmosphere, and the chef has filled the menu a lot of imaginative selections that are very well executed. On the other hand, it's kinda dirty, not very well maintained, and it shares its shopping center with a WalMart. I came here once before, didn't particularly enjoy my experience, and never thought about Sushi On again. This second time around, coming with my son, we found some of the surrounding shops closed, and this spot a bit more run down. But, it was tastier than I remember. Focusing on the bad stuff first, service was really slow. We came around 5:00pm on a Friday, prime dinner rush time, and there seemed to be only one server working. The restaurant was only around a quarter to a third full, the chefs seemed more focused on to-go orders, and it took over 25 minutes between coming in and getting our first sushi orders. Sitting there hungry, we watched as four separate orders were made, packaged up, and served to walk-ins before our first roll came to the table. And last, a table next to us was covered in dirty dishes and cups, which sat there the entire time we ate. It wasn't until another couple came in, asking if they could sit there, was it finally cleared off and wiped down. Meaning that all of that sat there for probably around 45+ minutes, which is kind of unacceptable. Still, the sushi itself was very well-made and the flavors were pretty much on point. We started with a Shrimp Tempura Roll, it had a good amount of filling, the shrimp was nice and crisp, the sauces were balanced, and it was all served in rice paper to keep it clean. Next, my son opted for a Salmon Skin Roll. This was simple, flavorful, and pretty much what you hope and expect it to be. I ordered the advertised special of Sushi On Nachos. This dish was beautifully plated, a good amount of spicy meat on each wonton skin, and topped with a sweet sauce and fresh greens. It was a bit messy, but very delicious. My only issue with the dish was wishing that there had been a more savory sauce instead of the sugary eel sauce. After that, we had a pair of Salmon Nigiri. Not the best tasting salmon I've ever had, but it was still beautifully colored, a fairly thick slice, and not too badly prepared. It was basic, meaning I would have preferred having it served with fresh wasabi or greens, but it still didn't disappoint. Last, we had their Cowboy Roll. This consisted of spicy krab, avocado, cucumber, with ribeye steak, house sauce, garlic oil, and green onion on top. On paper, this sounded amazing. Similar dishes to this absolutely rock over at other sushi restaurants. At Sushi On, however, it felt lacking in flavor and execution, either needing salt or some extra spice to heighten the taste. All-in-all, a better than average sushi outing. Still, with as much as Sushi On has going against it, kind of a difficult sell on coming out here to try again. I will say that this place is better tasting than I remembered, but the service and state of the restaurant itself may keep us from coming in on the regular. read more

Found this place because their car with their logo was in the parking lot I was Christmas shopping at. I'm so glad we came here! Small restaurant, super clean, nice ambiance and good service. Food was incredible!! The fish seemed to be fresh, which is always a good thing at a sushi restaurant haha. There was only one server on Christmas Eve for lunch and it was a little busy, but you wouldn't have noticed the way the server was handling business. He was all over the place and everywhere all at the same time. The Christmas music was contemporary and old school, the volume was just right as well. We were greeted when we came in, another table was there and it got busy. Ok noted. However it took 30 mins to get my toro lover roll. My son's food all came out, then my second roll came out but not my first roll- which I had to ask about and it came last. I ordered that roll first before anything too. By this point I didn't even feel like eating anymore. Ruined my appetite. Nobody ever checked on us, walked by our table so fast every time. we put our empty cup of water waiting at the edge hopefully for subtle hint that we wanted a refill and ignored us until my son said to me, they can't even refill our water? Then the guy I'm sure heard, came up to us and asked if we wanted a refill. So I guess remember you gotta be the one to initiate when you need something. They walk by our table and seemed so busy so I didn't want to disturb but hoping they would notice I am trying to get their attention. had the look on me kinda like I'm done and hoping they would stop to ask if we needed anything. Nope. Ignored. But if you call them, they will stop to address you. I just didn't want to seem like a bother and hoping they would check on us. Stopped in for dinner on a Monday evening, it was relatively quiet, only a few tables and nobody at the bar. We were not greeted when we entered the restaurant and after a few minutes were told to sit anywhere, we sat at the bar. The service when we went was lackluster, had to ask to order, ask to get water, ask to get a refill. There was no interaction with the Sushi Chef at the bar which when busy I can understand, but also one of the reasons to sit at the bar is for some interaction. While the Scallop Nigiri (Hotate) was actually very good, there was nothing else notable for me. The majority of the rolls were basically all California rolls (Krab) with just a different fish on top. The Sashimi was not spectacular, the grain in the Tuna (Maguro), the texture of the Salmon and the Taki (Octopus) were off. Amazing sushi rolls in the Walmart shopping center! My hun & I came here for their Happy Hour which is 3p-6p everyday! I love me an everyday special, especially theirs because they have quality rolls as specials, not just the basics. All the items we ordered were delicious & fresh! I enjoyed out experience so much, I had to take my girlfriends here for their Lunch Special which is 11a-3p everyday. We all opted for the Sushi Roll combo which is 2 rolls (6 pieces each) from the set menu, miso soup & salad for $20! Again, I love how they have specialty rolls as options & not just the basic rolls. Stopped by for lunch while Happy Hour was still going on. The sushi here is very affordable, and everything we ordered was from the Happy Hour menu and by the end of the meal we were stuffed. My husband ordered a beer for $3 and it was refreshing, for food we ordered the gyoza, Cali roll, spicy roll, snowball and ocean rolls. The food was really good, the snowball and ocean rolls were fries and they came out nice and crispy on the outside. Stopped by Sushi On while out in California for work meetings. They were able to quickly seat our group of 7, six adults and one baby. The service was friendly and they helped us focus on choices from their many rolls. One of our group was celebrating their birthday so they gave her some free ice cream. They usually sing, but our friend asked they not. Five of us each ordered a roll to share and some calamari and edamame for appetizers. One of our group didn't want sushi so they ordered the kalbi bento box and really enjoyed it. The rolls were tasty and we enjoyed our time at Sushi On. Decided to stop in for lunch after reading the amazing reviews only to discover that this location has been opened by one of my favorite sushi chefs in Escondido. The food was excellent, all of the fish was incredibly fresh. The rolls have the perfect rice to fish ratio and some really unique sauces. The service was amazing and felt like having lunch with a friend. The strip mall location is perfect with tons of parking and the restaurant itself is clean and beautifully decorated. This will definitely become my new regular spot! Came in on a Wednesday 11am and placed an order for the salmon lover roll. It's a premium roll so I always hesitate ordering it. With tax it comes out to $25. So, today I decided to order it to-go and determine if the price is worth the quality, quantity and flavor. I waited around 12 minutes. It was quiet since they had just opened. Got my order and took it home. At first glance, it looked good. I took a bite without the sauce it came with and the rice to protein ratio just a bit off. Flavor is good. Rice was seasoned right. I like that it has real crab, tobiko and ikura. My one disappointment is the amount of salmon on the top. If that would have been a bit more generous it would have been a 9/10. I tried it with the sauce and it was a garlicky ponzu forward flavor. It went well with the salmon, but I'm glad they served it on the side. Déjà vu flavors from my college days where you could find tiny restaurants that had good home style food without pushing a college students' budget. I'm talking about food that you would have at home for dinner with your family. The bento lunch special is what we've had both times, the cost, presentation and service are right there, numero uno #1 tops. I mean it really is a complete meal! it's salad, perfectly flavors ginger, sushi, chicken or salmon or beef teriyaki with rice, shrimp and veggie tempura! Plus to start miso with tofu and kombu! Now don't get me wrong they have seating at the sushi bar and it has an extensive menu and they offer ramen combos and even mochi ice cream as well, my guess is they're also very good. I'm old school and enjoy traditional shogatsu type sushi, nori, inari & futomaki platters for New Years because that is what I know. Sushi today takes on more of a sophisticated trendiness with exotic artistic creations that you marvel at, fresh delicious seafood with their creative masters making these ultimate pieces of art and taste. but if you crave basic homestyle food,, SushiOn is very good. Looks like a fairly new sushi spot in the Wal Mart/Kohls plaza. Excellent service. Great deal on the lunch special, i picked the Lemon Flash with the Tonkotsu, and it was plenty. The broth and noodles were cooked perfectly. Suggestion would be to bag the in the ramen. I'm glad they didn't put a lot because i had to take that off. Lemon Flash is one of their specialty rolls and it really showcased the ponzu sauce and sliced lemon with the tuna and salmon pieces. It was light and refreshing. New sushi spot on the block that was Sushiya prior but please give them a try because their selection of sushi is aaaaaamazing!!! First things first, happy hour is every day 50% select items from 3-6pm which is a plus! Their rolls are absolutely delicious. My husband and I loved the selection they have for HH. They have items from sushi, bento, and the lunch combos.! Tried out their gyoza, takoyaki, and cucumber salad and it did not disappoint! For the sushi you HAVE to try their honey bee roll that packs a bunch and the honey does more than it should I promise it's delicious! Also try their Nordahl roll that has an umami sauce that's also just as good. Honestly everything we ordered had so much flavor in every bite! These two rolls stood out most to us but of course to each their own but no really their sushi selection is bomb. Was taken care of by Christina who was the biggest sweetheart and definitely made sure we were taken care of! 1st time I came I had the salmon bento box and it was delicious! However, on my 2nd time here, I ordered the Mixed poke bowl, it looks delicious but I was disappointed with the amount of protein in there. They were tiny slices of mixed poke but so much rice on it. We came for lunch on a Friday around noon, there were only 2 servers and the wait time was longer. The restaurant looks really small but probably can accommodate 20-30 people. I did a phone order so I can't speak to the dine inexperience, however, if it was anything like over the phone, it must be great. The man on the phone was very helpful and they were actually able to customize a role for me. (Deep fry the whole roll) and when I went to pick up, it was quick clean, organized, and well managed.
