I had heard about this place through a few of my co-workers but never thought to venture there, even though it's pretty close to my house. I dragged my husband along one night when I had the "sushi need" and we were pleasantly surprised by the whole thing. The decor is awesome (Christmas lights used as indoor lighting all year round? YES PLEASE) and everyone there was super friendly. I ordered us a round of hot tea and they gave us these mugs filled with toasted rice and loose green tea leaves. Sound weird? IT WAS! Normally it has much more crab meat -it's definitely a roll of the dice how much fish you get. We had several rolls and all were decent. I think they must be trying to step up their game as they have added in special touches to their presentation. For instance, one roll had a strawberry cut like a rose - another had a flame in the middle. We ordered drinks today and, after we finished those, they never came back to ask if we needed more. So, we ate half our meal with nothing to drink. Oddly, they have added desserts but all have an Italian flair. We did not order as they were clearly pre-made frozen items. I grabbed two orders of Cali rolls to go. They were good, decent..par for the course. Their pricing is too high comparitively though. Sushi Pirate has been around for some time and despite driving past it about once a week, I finally just got around to trying it out. I would say for the price, it is about an average sushi joint. The rolls we had were very good and the service was fine. We were there on a Sunday mid afternoon and there were only about eight other customers there. It's clean and bright. I love that we have an affordable sushi place so close to the house. The husband was apprehensive about the food based on the name of the place. But it was quite good, about the same price as our usual 'Sushi Station' and way more affordable than 'Sword Fish'. I absolutely LOVE their tuna rolls, all of the food is fresh and made to order, wait time is minimal. Wait staff is friendly and courteous. Atmosphere is relaxing and calm, a very nice place to dine. Sushi Pirate? The name intrigued me for some time. I finally decided to go. In what way are they pirates? They stole my time! It was plundered! It took over forty five 45 minutes from ordering three (3) rolls to them being delivered!!! I nearly walked out. It seems that they prioritize creating the take-out orders over the dine-in orders. Additionally, the wait staff never checked with us during the inordinate wait. She walked by, routinely avoiding eye contact and my raised hand. Terrible service. Also, the special rolls are small. Positives? The people-watching was decent. The food tasted okay. The chicken fried rice was ready 5 minutes after ordering.... scratch that. At first they gave us vegetable fried rice, then realized the error when it reached the table. 5 minutes later, the proper dish was delivered. One last note about a particular customer, I'll refer to him as Mr MBA. Mr MBA, please don't talk to the sushi chefs when they're clearly busy. Don't ask them what their best roll is, what their favorite roll is, what the hardest thing they've ever made is and insist that they smile more. I don't know if they've changed hands, but the restaurant I would frequently dine at and this current iteration are worlds apart. The last two times I dined in, the server refused to make eye contact with anyone in my party. The second time, the same server brought the wrong meals out to 3 people in our party of 4, meals that hadn't even been ordered. We had to point to the meal in the menu, and at first he tried to tell us that he brought us the right dishes, and when we read off the descriptions verbatim he made it seem as though he had never heard of them before. They refused to bring us out the food we ordered, but we were hungry and had to be somewhere so we just ate what was in front of us. Halfway through our meal, he brought out a plate that absolutely no one had ordered and when we explained this to him he made it seem like we were lying. I decided to never dine in again, but I liked their spicy tuna rolls so I ordered one to go over the weekend. I called the order in and as soon as I opened the door the same server barked at me, "PHONE NUMBER!" I was caught off-guard and didn't respond fast enough for him so he yelled again, "PHONE NUMBER?" Went here today and I really enjoyed the Godzilla Rolls and Dragon Rolls my girlfriend and I shared. Dragon Rolls were my favorite out of the two. I went in today for lunch... I wouldn't say it is a go to place to eat sushi but it was pretty good and I didn't realize that it was 30% off rolls on Sunday. The size of the rolls even for a non 30% off at the normal price was good... The sushi came out fast and smelled and tasted fresh...the service was so so-I think when I was asking my questions the man who took my order as well as made my sushi didn't understand what I was asking... The miso soup I had to start with was good as well. The only thing that irked me is if you want to have extra sarrachia sauce on the side it is a $1 which I happily paid but come on really? You can buy a bottle for $5 at HMart and it's not a special sauce they mix up it is sarrachia right out of the bottle. The interiors are nice-I could probably do without the nets on the ceiling and the plastic fish it doesn't add anything to the atmosphere. The place was clean and neat... I picked up some carry-out sushi from Sushi Pirate this evening. Overall I was pleased. When I arrived I was greeted immediately and directed to a bench near the hostess stand to wait while the young lady checked on my order. She came back with a glass of ice water and told me it would be a few minutes. When I called I was quoted 20 minutes and I was there in about 15, so no problem. While waiting I looked around. It's been a long time since my disappointing visit to Sushi City, which was formerly in this space, so I don't remember what the decor was like. Sushi Pirate was clean and comfortable looking. They have a few booths, three tables and a sushi bar that will seat about 12 people. At 7:00pm on a Friday there were 5 people at the sushi bar, 8 at one table, and four of the booths were occupied by two or three people each. There was one waitress covering all of the booths and tables (the same young lady who greeted me). he was hustling and no one appeared to be waiting for anything. there were two itamae behind the sushi bar. One was smiling and talking to the guests at the bar as he worked while the other was heads down making sushi. If I were there to sit at the bar I know where I would rather sit. It's nice to be able to interact with the itamae while at the bar. Both were very busy and they were putting out plates of sushi regularly. The in-restaurant presentations that I was able to see looked good. The hostess/waitress kept checking on me and she asked the smiling itamae about my order a couple of times. All told it was about 40 minutes from when I called to when I was headed out the door. I ordered the Crazy Tuna Roll (tuna, scallion, avocado, spicy tuna and crunchy (sic)), the Pirate Maki (Spicy crab, avocado, unagi and crunchy), and the Oak Roll (Spicy Hamachi, jalapeño, unagi, avocado and eel sauce). All were good. The fish was fresh and the rolls were nicely formed and held together. The Oak Roll was probably the best of the three. I think they may have gone a little overboard with the crunchy since I had a big pile of crunchy left. Also, the spicy elements really weren't spicy. They had nice flavor, but no heat at all. That was a bit disappointing. So, as I mentioned in the opening, I was pleased and would go back again. hey have a special on Sundays where rolls are 30% off, so that is on my list for a future Sunday. I enjoy the sushi at Swordfish in Batavia, which is 5 minutes from my home, but it is expensive. Sushi Pirate was very good, and was a great value for the price. Three rolls came to a total of $39. Two rolls and a salad at Swordfish is usually over $50. After this you're wondering "Why 4 stars instead of 5". I had to mark them down for the order taking twice as long as quoted. If they were busy and told me 40 minutes then I would have waited at home a little longer. I was treated well during the wait, so that helps. Also, I had to knock them down for the spicy elements of the rolls having no heat to them at all. I wasn't expiating to sweat from eating them, but I expected a similar level or heat as other area sushi places have in their spicy tuna, etc. read more

We had a similar experience as Melanie P. We loved Sushi City especially the shitaki and sweet potato rolls which are no longer offered at Sushi Pirate. The first time we tried Sushi Pirate we left disappointed and didn't give them another chance for over a year. However this past Sunday we had a craving and they are a 90 second drive from our house so we figured we'd give tham another shot for carry-out. We couldn't have been more pleased. We got pretty standard rolls and some soup... and to our surprise we got 30% off all rolls because it was Sunday. So for $16 two of us ate a full meal of delicious fresh made rolls.
