I had a chance to try out Sushi Q6 a few weeks ago with our giant friend group. My family and I have been consistent patrons of their location in Elkridge, but have never tried the Normandy location. They did well accommodating such a large group. There were 12 of us in total (including 2 children). They got us seated quickly. The chicken teriyaki (which is on a secret menu) and their shrimp fried rice and hibachi are all amongst my favorite. I do enjoy the sushi, but the a la cart is significantly overpriced (over $12 for 3 pieces). The meals, like sushi delight are reasonably priced however I hate that the only options for the roll that's included is cooked rolls. However the staff are super friendly and will typically let you sub it out. Speaking of the staff; they are all genuinely kind and friendly and really accommodating. As a vegetarian, I'm always on the lookout for sushi spots that try to elevate the classic vegetable maki options. I was pleased to find a few such options on the Sushi Q menu. The Yasai Maki Roll uniquely combines seaweed salad atop a mushroom, sweet potato, avocado roll. It's tasty but the salad struggles to stay atop the pieces. The Garden Roll adds sliced mango to elevate the mixed vegetable roll, which adds an element of mellow sweetness to the bite. This review is long overdue but I have been coming to this particular location out of all the Sushi Q's for the past year. If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. Sushi Q Normandy is in a shopping center off of Rt.40 at the beginning of Ellicott City. Growing up in Baltimore, I have seen so many changes in this area so I didn't come to this shopping center often but now I'm here twice a month for sushi. My guy and I usually dine in but have also done takeout many times as well. He has his go-to favorite which is the Rt. 40 but I on the other hand have tried various rolls and have a list of my faves: Hollywood Crazy Lou Ocean City Rt.40 Catonsville Millennium Smart Philly Tiger Roll Raven Scallop Dynamite Ginger Scallop All Amazing! When dining in, we are given soup and their signature appetizer which we love so much, order it for takeout as well. After sushi we're then given a complimentary cheesecake-like dessert. A fan of Sushi Q2 in Owings Mills, this was my first time visiting this restaurant. The restaurant is located in a shopping strip off of Route 40. Upon entering, my friends and I were led to a booth and given menus. After asking about any specials, we made our orders. I opted for the Route 40 roll and 151 Fire roll. My friends ordered rolls and fried rice. One thing I looooove about any Sushi Q restaurant are the complimentary appetizers. Dependent upon how much you order, the restaurant will give you a miso soup and fried roll free of charge.* The rolls were delicious. I've been to their elkridge location first and glad they opened a location in Ellicott! Their lunch specials are great deals! Their sushi is pretty good! It's a decent size and quality. The Wayne roll is pretty good (seems like a copy of yuraku's wayne roll shh). We love the salad and miso that comes with the sushi. We also love the fried imitation grab appetizer. We also love getting their pork katsu - its available on the lunch special and as a dinner portion. The lunch portion you get one piece of fried pork, but the normal entree size you get 2 pieces of pork. Well worth the normal price. It comes with 2 sauces and a seaweed salad and a choice of a bowl of white rice or fried rice (of course we enjoy their fried rice!). My office ordered takeout from Sushi Q for a celebration, but unfortunately we were a little disappointed. We found a hair in one of the sushi rolls that couldn't really be removed. I ordered the 3 roll lunch special with eel avocado, eel crunchy, and dabomb (shrimp tempura with spicy sauce). These missed the mark - the sushi wasn't fresh, and the taste and texture were off. Soup and salad came with each of the lunch specials. Both of them were not fresh or appetizing, either. This one is located in the newly renovated Normandy Shopping center. Parking lot can get a little crazy at times so be patient when looking for a space. I have been here a few and it never disappoints. The lunch menu prices are great and the dinner prices are just a little bit more. If you like reasonably priced sushi you will enjoy it here. Not a super large menu for other options. They do serve hibachi and Japanese fried rice as well. I came for the sushi. Service was great. As soon as I walked in I was seated and the waitress took my order. I got some edamame for a appetizer along with a Fat tire beer. For my entree I ordered the triple spicy Maki. What a disappointment the soup was not spicy and very bland........ You're better off cooking cup ramen from the dollar store. Have been a regular at the Elkridge and Millersville sushi Q locations for years, so I was so excited when they opened a new location in EC! This place is hands down my favorite sushi restaurant ever. They've got a pretty big menu with over 100 different roll options and the quality of the sushi is always consistent. I also love that they always bring out a complimentary app, miso soup, and dessert. I've been here about 4 times since it opened this year, and just like all the other sushi Q locations, it delivers with high quality ingredients, unique rolls, and very reasonable prices. My favorites here are the tuna tsunami, christmas tree roll, amazing tuna roll, and the Boston bays roll (fried). They also have vegetarian and vegan options, as well as other hibachi style dishes for those who don't like sushi. Whatever you get, you must try the white sauce that comes on the table. It is a Japanese mayo (kind of tastes like yumyum sauce) that is amazing on everything! All the tables conveniently have call buttons too, so you can give your staff a ring whenever you need them. This is the second time I've been here. I usually like to give restaurants a few try before I decide to stop going. Once again, I am dissatisfied! Upon entering, there was a fishy odor. I understand that this is a sushi restaurant, but why does it smell almost like a fish market? Anywho, I'm hungry; my niece and I sat down and ordered anyway. We got our food, as good as they look, the taste cannot compare. The rice was hard and dry. The tuna tsunami taste the best out of what was ordered, but the tuna itself looked like it was sitting out for quite some time. Even the wasabi was dry. I had to really muddle it with the chopstick to blend in the soy sauce. I didn't have the pickled ginger because I know my niece likes it. She too said it was dry and smelt like fish. Sushi Q has so many options in their menu, it's always hard to choose just one roll, however our entire table tried different rolls and everyone was completely satisfied. We dined in, so we were offered complimentary crab appetizer, miso soup, and dessert cheesecake (free food is always good right?). I tried the Naruto Roll, which is beautifully wrapped in cucumber and stuffed with tuna salmon yellowtail and avocado. It also came with really yummy special sauce! Decided to pick up some sushi for their lunch special! It's great that they offer the lunch special even with carry out. I placed the order over the phone and received an order number (remember it!) and was told it would take about 20 minutes. When you arrive, the set up inside is kind of weird because you have to walk to the middle of the restaurant where the bar/kitchen is. You tell them your order number and pay via Clover (or cash). I ordered: - Lunch special Pick 2 for $8.95. I got the Salmon Avocado roll and the Boston Bays roll (+$1) - Christmas Tree roll $12.95 The lunch special came with a salad and miso soup. The salad is similar to what you'd get at a Japanese steakhouse - but a lot sweeter! The miso soup was flavorful - I love that they used soft tofu and included the seaweed pieces. Everything was delicious!! They don't skimp on the fish at all, or the avocado. The Christmas Tree roll was topped with tuna tartar mixed with avocado and seaweed salad. It was savory but sweet, and the spicy tuna roll underneath was flavorful and fresh. Boston Bays is an extra dollar but is huge and filling. It goes really well with the white sauce they give you on the side, but the combination is very creamy because of the sauce and the cream cheese. Salmon Avocado was fresh and delicious, and definitely on the bigger side even for lunch. Overall, I will definitely come back again. The lunch special is Mon-Sat from 11-3 except holidays. This was a casual dining experience with a friendly attentive staff. The crab salad was fresh and delicious. All the sushi rolls were full of meat and very filling. My husband got the miso soup and I got the onion broth. Both were on par for typical sushi restaurant soup. We received a complimentary appetizer and dessert. Both were very light and delicious. It was a very nice touch. For 2 salads, 2 soups, and 3 rolls, the total came to about $70 before tip and it was well worth it considering the quality of the food as well as the service.
