Fantastic sushi spot in the heart of Carlsbad Village. I love a fun specialty roll and Sushi Taisho did not disappoint! I went for the Honey and 911 rolls and really enjoyed them. Also recommend trying one of their several sakes. We visited on a weekday and were seated outside quickly. Service was fast and our waitress was friendly and happy to give recommendations. Rolls averaged around $15 which I thought was fair given the location and quality. Overall a winning sushi spot in beautiful Carlsbad. Will return. read more

Appetizers to sushi rolls- everything was amazing!! The kitchen got confused on one of our sushi orders and sent out sashimi for free, which was also AMAZING. Sushi rolls are PACKED with protein and worth the price for the amount AND the flavor. Definitely get the Super Mario roll and don't skip the egg rolls, made extra crispy, and the bulgogi fries came LOADED. Great flavors and really good quality ingredients in alll the dishes we chose. Been here several times. Food is ok no original rolls very similar to other places liked hooked on sushi. We went Saturday night and the band downstairs was so loud you couldn't hear anything. Couldn't have a conversation or hear anything. The server didn't greet us for 15 minutes. The rolls that night were sloppy and not well put together. Busy Saturday night but service should still be good. Won't go back on a weekend again read more

This restaurant is located in a cute plaza on the second floor. Parking may be difficult, I had a hard time but that may be because there's a well known local band playing there! Service was quick and frequent, not to mention the food came out quickly. We ordered some rolls and they were all delicious. A night to remember! Got there around 6:00 and sat outside on a Sunday and it was the best choice! Heaters helped us stay warm while the restaurant below played awesome live music. Sushi was great! Came here with a few friends on a Friday evening. For someone looking for a delicious Japanese-inspired dinner or lunch, Sushi Taisho had a lot of options from traditional sushi, Japanese curry/katsu, to even Americanized appetizers with things like bulgogi fries, etc. Some in our group had a bento box, some had a sushi sampler, while I had a Japanese Curry with Katsu and a yellowtail roll. Everything was delicious; service was attentive, and overall our group enjoyed our time here. We sat outside next to one of the heaters; the music from the bar down below was bumping by around 7pm, but it added to the fun vibe; but just be aware you'll hear some loud music if you're sitting outside from the bar below! read more

Came on a Friday night party of 4.5. We were able to be seated right away and the outside dining is cozy with heaters and a view of the downstairs pub that had live music toward the end of our dinner, although a bit loud, we were finishing up, so it wasn't bad. Was excited about the chicken katsu, as pork katsu is one of my fave dishes. The chicken was crispy and crunchy and a nice side dish to the Japanese curry. I wasn't quite in the mood for the curry this time but would def try again! I also went with a classic miso soup, always delish and the Philly roll, big fan of cream cheese! Absolutely fantastic! Miso soup is definitely made in house and has depth. The salmon nigiri melts into your mouth. Not your average North County sushi spot -- they elevated this old beloved spot with high quality ingredients in mind. Very elegant design inside as well but still with a quaint feel. My boyfriend and I came here for some late night bites and really enjoyed the freshness and thick cuts of sashimi. We visited the restaurant about 30 minutes before closing time and were pleased with the service and quality of the food. The table next to us ordered a large display of sashimi that was beautifully presented in a "staircase." We'll have to come back to order that next time! I appreciate a sushi restaurant that goes the extra mile for food presentation! This restaurant is located on the second level of the plaza, and directly below is the Cayote restaurant which is really loud with the live band. If you do not prefer the loudness, then I would suggest dining indoor. Otherwise, the outdoor patio is really nice too. read more

Very nice location upstairs from Coyote which had live music. Inside and outside tables. Staff was friendly and sushi chefs were keeping up with the orders. My husband ordered the North coast roll and it was delicious. We will be returning for more. The service was good and the recommendation from the server was obviously top notch. We went back to eat indoor and the service was as expected very courteous and helpful. We ordered the Super Mario, cucumber roll and another North Coast Roll. My husband also ordered the teriyaki entree but the chicken was chewy and sauce was sweet so not ordering again. Definitely going back to try new rolls. read more

I feel terrible leaving a bad review for a local business, but this was genuinely the worst meal I've had out in years and years. The service was good to be fair. The biggest problem was that all the sushi was warm!! None of the ingredients were cold. Salad was sad and limp, too. The ambience wasn't great either on the patio. They need to pressure wash the ground and make it more visually appealing... there was junk and propane tanks sitting around everywhere. We are not picky diners, but it was noticeably bad. Sadly we won't be back. :( I hope they'll take this info as a genuine nudge to improve. This place has potential! read more

We're in Carlsbad several times a year and this is our go-to sushi place. This is unpretentious. The fish is fresh and the fry (tempura) is imo perfect. My only complaint is with their neighbor and landlord. TAISHO's otherwise mellow ambiance is frequently shattered by live music from Coyote Grill, which is directly below. Loud? Yes. Garage-band happy-hour loud. If I were the boss of the world I'd have Taisho move to a quieter spot in the same center or soundproofing; or perhaps an arrangement with their neighbor. So, if there's music below- I would NOT come here expecting a quiet sushi experience; which sucks because this is a great local business with fair prices; helpful staff and good food. read more

Foods good, servers don't really care for kids. Got sat at the sushi bar when there were three other open tables, while they kept the door open while its 50 degrees out. I think we got a new sushi spot! Decided to check this place out for a Wednesday lunch date and it was perfect. We typically order 3-4 rolls but we thought we ought to try 2 first and go from there. Thankfully, those two rolls were more than enough for both of us. We thought the rolls were a great size. The service here was amazingly awesome. We ordered sushi without any wasabi or spices, it came by default with spice sauce drizzled, and they corrected it graciously and apologetically (no apologies necessary 'tho). My son is adverse to hot spiced food, so that's why we asked and made sure ahead of time and it was merely a kitchen mix up. In the aftermath, the food was quickly replaced and consumed deliciously with great satisfaction. My son loved it all. The only hard part of the restaurant and we came on a Saturday evening in the Summer, was PARKING, as the lots were full and it's a busy area as well as located in a little "village" supporting multiple restaurants, shops and retailers. We found parking about 4 blocks away walking distance near the train station for free 'tho. read more

I love sushi and Blue Ocean is my fav sushi foodz in North County but now that Sushi Taisho is here, I may have to reconsider. It is green and gold in here and very cute. The food is divine. They even have a baked scallop roll (Blue Ocean does not). I have never had to wait to eat here. They are upstairs in the Cbad Village Faire (by Sun Diego and the like). I love to eat outside and feel the breeze. The only bummer is Coyote Ugly is below it and loud as hell alot of times with live music so maybe listen for a few before deciding to eat here. Also the train horn still sounds in Carlsbad when it goes by so it may scare you and make you drop your chopsticks. Great presentation and taste. march 4th around 8pm I went into taisho sushi off Carlsbad village drive. We got seated almost immediately... within 10 minutes of being seated we were ready to order and our waitress did not acknowledge us. We had to call her over for her to take our Order. She didn't ask us if we wanted anything else after we said what we wanted and just walked away halvewag through us ordering. She and the other server kept giving us mean looks and did not check up on us once. After we got our food our server just disappeared and we couldn't find her to pay our bill, it took so long the other server had to get our bill for us. I am very disappointed unsatisfied with the service I received tonight. I have been coming to Tiasho sushi for over 3 years and I will not be coming back ever again . read more

The Brussels sprouts are another must-order. They're hands down the best Brussels sprouts we've ever had, and we can't come here without getting them. We also always order the spicy garlic edamame. The sauce is so good that we actually dip our sushi rolls in the leftover edamame sauce, and it's honestly a game changer. (The pricing is also unbeatable for how good the food is). Every sushi roll we've tried has been incredibly fresh and beautifully made. We always end up ordering way more food than we planned because everything is just that good. For drinks, the Cracked Summer is our go-to cocktail every single visit. It's refreshing, delicious, and pairs perfectly with the food. We shared a nice bottle of sake, ordered multiple rolls, and even got individual hand rolls--which were generously portioned and delicious. One of our friends needed gluten-free options, and they had plenty available, which was great. The service was excellent--super friendly and welcoming. The restaurant itself is really cute and cozy, with a warm atmosphere. It's located upstairs in Carlsbad, so there's a nice little view of the area, and you can even see the train coming in. Plus, you can hear live music from downstairs, which adds to the fun vibe. The seafood was super fresh, the space was clean, and everything we tried was fantastic. Son plays an amazing game, they win! Grammie wants to take us to lunch so we give her the address. She gets there before us and we all sort of look at one another and say let's give it a try. OMG.....Kyodai 23 is now one of my Top 3 favorite sushi locations EVER!!! The sushi was so fresh, flavorful, melt in your mouth amazing! I'm writing this review two months after we dined, so I don't remember the names of any of the dishes, but I added pics so you can see what we had. It was so good, we actually doubled up on a couple of dishes. We left full and satisfied. Service was very prompt and friendly. The restaurant was clean and nicely appointed. The prices were more than reasonable...especially for that quality of sushi. As much as I don't want to drive 2.5 hours for a single soccer game, I'll be wishing for many more games in Oceanside! We just wanted no spicy sauce. The server told us the kitchen couldn't do it because they were too busy - even though leaving out sriracha I don't think takes more time, and we were 1 of 4 tables dining. I'm not sure the server understood our request. It's nice to see this place in Oceanside, we need more in this area. I'm hopeful it stays but with the price being what it is - I'm not positive. We were helped by one employee who does the register and the cooking, and he was pleasant & efficient. We got the pork ramen and the beef (bulgogi) bento box. The flavors were great and the food tasted freshly made. This was a wonderful experience and glad we arrived before they close at 2:00pm (Saturday).

The food came out quickly, and everything looked fresh and well prepared. I'm a pretty picky eater, so ramen just wasn't really for me, which definitely affected my experience. My boyfriend, on the other hand, absolutely loved his meal and would definitely come back. Even though it wasn't my favorite personally, I could tell the quality was there, and I can understand why so many people enjoy this place.
