If you're looking for a solid sushi spot in Brandon, Sushi Yama has become a go-to for our family. I mainly eat tuna rolls and the rice with soy sauce. I know it's just rice but it's so good My kids are big fans too. The nuggets are a hit which makes it an easy win for a family night out. My daughter also loves the rice. Easily one of my favorite places in Tampa Bay. Came here for my brother's birthday and brought more family members. We ordered SO much sushi and left so stuffed. Everything was a hit with the exception of the tuna sashimi which was slightly frozen when served. Didn't really bother us because our favorite fish to get here is the salmon! I think I found my new favorite sushi spot! Great service, we were seated fast and she explained the menu very well. As we began to order the food came out quick and it was all so fresh I had the miso soup (twice) and the gyoza and the sashimi (twice) and a few rolls. They are all so good so I recommend them all but the true star of the show was the tuna tartar it was DELICIOUS!! Food was great as normal. The sushi, the steak, and the appetizer. We noticed a few changes in reference to the wasabi which is not good at all. And the rice and the noodles was not season as they normally are. Not sure if they're changing something here which was a little disappointing because I paid for the dinner menu . Also the miso soup wasn't good as well.I would say if they wanted to increase the price just a little bit to make sure everything stays consistent I would be okay with that. I came only because i wanted a simple shrimp tempura sushi roll but man i wasn't expecting them to offer so much here! They have an AYCE lunch and dinner special where everything is made to order instead of picking at it at a buffet. If you're not feeling AYCE you can definitely order À la carte. Some of the food is pretty good, but nothing special. I would say it's some of the best sushi from the level of what you can get from a buffet around here..but, that's about it for that. Some foods aren't good, such as the hand rolls and appetizers. That aside, i've been here a couple times now when i'm feeling sushi buffet and the service is always lacking. Nobody is smiling, nobody wants to be there. No hi or bye. Also, extremely slow to check on you and they forget things. The sushi is really good, it's not overloaded with rice and cucumber to make up for a lack of fish. You actually get a great balance, and the fish tastes fresh. There are plenty of options to choose from, so you don't get bored ordering the same things. Honestly, I could eat here multiple times a week if it were up to me. We finally returned, four months later, and was so looking forward to it. However, I was sadly disappointed. Instead of dinner we stopped in for lunch to do the AYCE. I noted in my original review (dinner) that although the AYCE menu was not exhaustive it was satisfying. The lunch menu was not the same and I was deprived a few items I really liked when we had dinner, such as the squid salad, octopus nigiri, and King Kai roll. The items I selected were between a 2 and 4, thus the overall updated rating of 3. The service was great, just like the previous visit, but the food not so much this go around. I'm not sure why, maybe due to it being a Thursday and we received some of the tail end of the "fresh" cuts of fish (?). Or previous visit was on a weekend. I could be wrong, but it makes sense; not that they would serve "rotten" fish, but you can taste the difference between 2 to 3 day old fish and week old fish on the cusp. Will we return? Possibly, when we venture westward and have a hankering. Maybe it was just an off day for them, or me. read more

We always go for All You Can Eat, but you can order entrees and other items separately too. They have a large sushi & sashimi selection, and all of the sushi that I've had there has been DELICIOUS! We went to Sushi Yama a couple nights ago with 2 friends who have never been there. They loved it! Our waitress Siri was super nice!! She even knew which rolls I wanted when I was looking for it. I thought the table next to us was exaggerating when they put their cups above their heads waving it to let the waiter know they needed a refill but I totally get it. The appetizers came out pretty quickly, but the sushi rolls themselves took a while more than 20 minutes when they finally arrived. The rolls were good no issue the flavor was good but when we finished our rolls we proceeded to wait for our server to check on us to order more but it took awhile to get his attention. When he finally came back, we ordered it again and even the second round took over 20 minutes to get our sushi rolls. The appetizers come out so quick but I really wish the sushi would too. I understand it takes time to make it but when it's not busy, I assume it would take less than 15 at most. Good food, but unfortunately slow service. read more

The one bad thing about this place is the service. Since it's super busy 90% of the time, it takes them quite a bit to get to you. Definitely my go-to spot for AYCE sushi! I'm honestly surprised I have never written a review before because I've been at least 10 times lol. They've got all the basics down - large parking lot, great service every time, and a relaxing vibe. It's also always full in here, but I rarely ever have to wait! Starting September 1, 2024, they started a new rule where everyone at your table must order from either the ACYE menu or the traditional menu. Just good to know! They also serve the dinner menu all day on Saturday and Sunday so be aware of that too. The lunch price is $20.95 and I think the dinner is more like $35 (but don't quote me on that). The fried Tokyo Roll had a thick layer of dense breading/tempura and the roll was 80% avocado. The chicken was dry and under seasoned. The most disappointing aspect was the timing of the service. For just two of us on an anniversary, my hibachi came out alone, my wife's roll came out 10 min later and the salads came AFTER the mains came and the miso finally arrived as an after dinner digestive......
