The staff was friendly and helpful, speaking enough English. All dishes we had were great. The quality was really high. We enjoyed nigiri, baked items, fried items, and some carpaccio. Die Garage waren knusprig, aber ich fand die von Takumi persönlich besser, weil die mehr knuspriger und vom Teig mir besser gefallen haben. Das Curry hingegen war sehr lecker. Mir hätte katsu dazu sehr gut gepasst. Das sushi ist ok. Für 19 Euro gab es chu Toro maki und sechs nigiris. Die Ebi nigiri war sehr enttäuschend. Rest war ok. Der reis war kalt und fest. Ich hatte das sushi besser in Erinnerung muss hinterher sagen das yabase und nagomi dann doch vorne liegen.

Die telefonische Reservierung vorab hat problemlos geklappt und ist gerade am Wochenende auch zu empfehlen. Am Besuchstag waren ca 70 Prozent aller Gäste Japaner was ich schon einmal als Qualitätsmerkmal ansehe. Die Einrichtung ist einfach aber sauber, nur die Klimaanlage war extrem kalt eingestellt. Also im Sommer vielleicht besser etwas zum überziehen einpacken. Es gibt auf der Karte viele "richtig" Japanische Gerichte. An diese haben wir uns an dem Abend aber nicht heran getraut und sind stattdessen beim Sushi geblieben. Es gibt hier fertige Platten wir z.b. die Jyo Sushi Platte die 30 Euro kostet. Hier ist ein bunter Querschnitt an Sushi enthalten. Man kann sich aber auch gut einfach seine eigene Sushi Auswahl zusammenstellen. Die Qualität des Fisch ist extrem hoch. Leider waren jedoch einige Sushi Rollen nicht so gut gerollt wie ich es erwartet hätte. Da es nur einen Koch für das ganze Restaurant gab war die Wartezeit auf das essen mit einer Stunde auch recht hoch. Wir wollten dann noch eine Sushi Rolle nachordern die Bedienung wies uns aber netterweise darauf hin dass auch diese eine Rolle wieder ungefähr eine Stunde dauern würde.... Wir haben es dann lieber gelassen . Zwei weitere positive Punkte sind dass die Kirin Gläser eisgekühlt waren und auch die Bedienung war durchweg sehr nett und aufmerksam und sprach perfekt deutsch. Insgesamt jedoch 4 Sterne denn da ist noch Luft nach oben. Dem bereits erwähnten Ranking bei dem das Restaurant auf Platz 1 gelandet ist kann ich mich so nicht anschließen. Es ist gut und lecker aber es geht noch besser. Preis Leistung passt jedoch. Also hingehen!

Who knew that Dusseldorf has the largest Japanese population outside of Japan? Not me, but when I…read morefound out, I knew I had to have a sushi meal here....yummo, it was fabulous. I ordered a Japanese eggplant dish as an appetizer and it was great, my sushi was a plate of sushi and a roll of my choice....I loved every piece. Fresh, nice rice and the servers dressed in authentic looking Japanese outfits, right down to the white socks and the thong wooden shoes. It was a nice change from the regular German fare in Dusseldorf.

FOOD & DRINKS Okonomiyaki in Düsseldorf is not very common…read more That is why I wanted to see how good it actually is. If I am not mistaken, what they serve here is the Osaka style okonomiyaki where everything is mixed in the batter and served as a thick pancake. I much prefer the Hiroshima style where it is more of a thin pancake and the ingredients sit on top of that and also often comes with fried noodles. It gives more layers of texture and is less heavy on the stomach. But that is just my personal preference. Osaka style oknomiyaki can be pretty filling and I did the mistake in ordering it with the fried chicken. Batter on batter and on top of that with Japanese potato salad. While the size of the pancake is pretty small, it can fill you up in no time. And if not then just add some protein and cheese on top. You won't go home hungry. The execution of the okonomiyaki is fine. I am just not a fan of this style because the pancake can be so dense. That is just me though. Other than that I would have preferred to do it myself. I also find it more fun that way but having an experienced chef to do it for you is by no means a bad thing for the majority of customers. Furthermore I'm happy to see that they also offer vegetarian items. SERVICE I think the service was alright. It felt very formal which is not my preferred style of service but that doesn't make it bad. You will be in good hands. ATMOSPHERE Here comes what I think is the big seller of this restaurant besides of the okonomiyaki. The decoration is just phenomenal but also very untypical for most oknomiyaki restaurants you find throughout Japan which are more simplistic. While most of the other Japanese style restaurants in the area definitely try to adopt and make a more modern approach to interior design, this place takes a slightly different direction. This place is packed with decorations about Japan. From the traditional big lamps to the japanese sake containers on the wall to the cute details all around. This place wants to make you feel as if you were in Japan not just by the food but also with their sense of decoration. RATING This place can be packed if you come here with a group of more than two and want to sit at a table. I highly recommend to reserve a table to make sure you don't have to wait too long. Come here if you miss Japan or if you want to immerse yourself into Japanese culture. This restaurant is worth trying out! NOTE One review mentioned that you can't get oknomiyaki for dinner. That is not true. You can get it every day for dinner. That is what they are known for. Just make sure to check when the kitchen closes. You can't get them too late into the evening.
