Came by to rent a vehicle that could haul the 4 of us around. You definitely need a car to get around. There are only two taxi companies that have only one or two cars each. There are buses but they don't run in the evening either... So I highly suggest you rent a vehicle or drive over to the island on a Ferry. The best option out of the 4 seaters is the Tracker. It runs on gas, there are a few colors (we got the "pink panther"), some automatic, some stick shift and is only $180/day. Another pro is that you can drive anywhere you want on the island with the tracker because they can handle it. the electric cars can hold 4 people as well but they're so much more expensive, like double the price about. But as mentioned above, the electric car is restricted to the scenic outskirts only because they can't handle some areas in the middle. The tracker has a bluetooth to radio plug that is used to play your music while driving. The top can also come off if it's sunny out and there's surpisingly a lot of space for people in the back. Neither the back or front in people felt smooshed. Overall, the whole trip was giving nostalgic y2k driving and I loved it. It went so well with all of the sightseeing we did around the island with the gorgeous nature, and they have a map that will help you do a huge circle around the island to all the scenic routes for a lot of gorgeous views. The Lavender Farm was nice to walk around with some of the snacks we bought at their store. The Wescott Bay Oyster farm was great, also stopped by the Alpaca Farm. All of the employees were very kind except for Greg. Not only was he extremely sour towards us but also to a lady asking about street parking. He wasn't passive aggressive, just aggressive. On 8/7/25, my wife, a good friend from Arizona, and I rented mopeds from Susie's for the day. Unfortunately, my wife had a bad accident near Lime Kiln Pointe State Park and inadvertently launched herself off a steep escarpment at a scenic overlook, tumbling down about 25 feet below. She was hurt badly, suffering a punctured lung, a lacerated liver, two broken ribs, a broken hand and multiple cuts and bruises. After being treated at Peace Island Medical Center, she was air-lifted to St. Joseph's Hospital in Bellingham. Meanwhile, the owner Greg L., picked up her damaged moped while my friend and I rode back into Friday Harbor. Greg and the woman at the business, Susie?, went above and beyond in accommodating us. Greg gave us all a ride to the hospital and offered to drive us to the ferry later if necessary. The next day Greg even texted me and asked how my wife was doing. There was damage to the moped and Greg was gracious enough to waive the repair costs for us. I really don't know we would have managed without their help and concern. My friend and I were in town for a few days at the beginning of March. It was definitely more chilly with overcast weather but it did not dim our experience at all because we are from Seattle. I really really enjoyed driving the car around the island. They even give you a map with highlighted areas to sight see! The staff was very welcoming and the rental process was extremely straightforward and easy. This was an amazing experience with amazing staff and service! I was in town for a friend's wedding and had a few hours to explore the island, but didn't know exactly what we wanted to do. It was raining briefly and the staff were honest about how cold and how unpleasant the experience could be, but we took a risk and the rain cleared up moments after we started riding in our adorable scoot coupe. It rides two people. It's definitely more tight for those who are taller. I'm 5'2" and my husband is 6'2" so it was more of a hassle getting in and out of the scoot coupe, but definitely doable. The staff was super friendly and honestly made the experience that much better! They provided us with blankets, raincoats, and helmets as well as these glasses that they mentioned were required by Washington law while we were on the road. It was around high 50's while we were riding around and going 25mph on the road, it gets chilly so remember to dress warmly! It was such a fun way to ride around and explore the island and pit-stop at all of the cool attractions and areas around the island. It's a pretty fun and easy experience, they showed us an informative video of an outline of the whole route around the island and what roads we were allowed on which made things easier. They explained all the buttons thoroughly on the scoot coupe and provided a map for the road that also had the instructions to the vehicle on the back. The trip took us around 4 hours while doing the whole loop and pit-stopping and taking our time to take in the sights. Definitely worth it!! read more

My husband and I rented a scoot coupe to explore the island during our wedding week. I'd been to San Juan island before, but seeing it by scoot coupe was an entirely different experience! We reserved in advance and did our waivers online. When we arrived, we were immediately greeted by such friendly employees who checked us in and showed us the ropes. I told them we were in town for our wedding when I made the reservation, so they had a "Bride and Groom" banner on the back of our car! It was super cute and fun to have people honk their horns and cheer for us when we were driving around. They provided a great, straightforward map, and we were off! We had the BEST time, and the cars are tons of fun to drive. We made it to all the sights on the map that we wanted to see throughout an afternoon. It was midweek in April so the roads weren't too busy, and we always felt safe. The back of the car had a small trunk, so we were even able to do a little shopping! They provided blankets, which we didn't end up needing, but it was a nice touch. If you don't want to deal with refilling the gas tank at the end, the cost is not unreasonable to have them do it for you. They're pricey to rent, but we both thought it was 110% worth it! read more

We just visited Friday Harbor for the first time and stayed in a local B&B with limited parking. It was recommended that we leave our car in Anacortes and walk on the ferry so we needed a vehicle to see the rest of the island. Susie's Moped Rental was fantastic! Parking: Free 2 hour street parking. Unsure what options are if you plan to rent for more than 2 hours and need to park your car somewhere. Scoot Coupe rental is $80/hour, and can be prorated beyond that for $20 per 15 minutes. We were able to walk in without a reservation and nab one around 3:30 PM, so we just had 1.5 hours max with it as they close at 5 PM. I imagine they get more crowded during busy season so you may want to make a reservation if your heart is set on it. This wasn't part of our original plans, but we couldn't resist after seeing others cruising around. There isn't a lot of traffic on the island, so that added to the appeal. I was pretty nervous to drive it since it was my first time, but I was given sufficient instruction in their parking lot before hitting the road. We also did a pre-trip inspection with them to note any preexisting damage. We did not have to specify how long we wanted the rental to be beforehand. He told us our starting time as we exited the driveway, so we were charged based on our return time, which ended up being 1.5 hours for $120 total. We were given a map of what route we were allowed to drive on. We were told it takes 2 hours to go around the entire island loop without stopping. We rode to Lime Kiln State Park and used the parking lot to turn around and head back the way we came, since the coupe can't make u-turns. Time flew by but I also felt like 1.5 hours was enough to enjoy the drive. You do need to fill up gas before you return, or for $5 they offered to fill it up for us. He said we'd probably only use $2 of gas, so we went with the $5 option for convenience. We heard the gas station nearby had run out of gas anyways. read more

We could not have seen nearly as many things on the island without having rented the two person car. We were fortunate to have amazing weather and really enjoyed our time touring the island. Our car was cleaned before we used it and they gave us a thorough briefing on how to operate it before we departed. At the end of the day after driving all over the place it took 7/10 of a gallon to refuel the tank! Less than $3 for premium. Super nice staff- very helpful and friendly. We would highly recommend- especially if you left your car on the mainland! Once you start rolling in your open air mouse car you know you're on vacation! Most awesome way to tour the island. We were a party of 4 coupes - and had a blast - 4 parents and 4 kids ages 8-10. The loop on the island takes 2 hours straight but I recommend a minimum of 5 hours to take in the different points of interest - lavender farm, whale watch point, cattlepoint lighthouse etc. The staff at Suzie's is so professional. And they are very thorough in their training. I had never ridden a mooed before but felt totally set after their brief tutorial. Our ride was misty and mysterious in the morning and sunny and clear with breathtaking ocean views as we came over hills. I can not recommend this activity or company highly enough. If we yelp reviewers were given the option of giving an establishment a sixth star but once a year I'd give it to Susie's. A long time staple of the San Juan Island experience, Susie's Moped, Scoot Car and Scoot Car Sport rentals are a crucial MUST for anyone visiting the island. The prices are great for the entire day and the pace of any of Susie's various motorized options is perfect for making a day out of the entirety of San Juan Island. I've tried all the options over the years and prefer the larger scoot cars as they are the quickest, though the mopeds are just as fun. An tank of gas will pretty much take you around the island, all the options are super easy to pilot, and super fun, I challenge anyone to try not and grin while passing through the dense understory along a curvy road on the way to watch orca at the lighthouse. From a practical standpoint these little scoot cars are quite safe, easy to handle, and can move fairly quickly when needed (traditional sorts of driving methods apply, like an original mini, where by you carry speed through corners to accommodate a less than brisk power delivery), and have enough room in the boot to handle two camera bags or a purse. Helmets are provided, or you can use your own snell approved lid. Susie's Mopeds is one of those rare treats, a business so perfectly honed for the environment its set in that it couldn't be any more perfect, or more pleasant a surprise. read more

I have rented scooters/mopeds in the past and I can say that Susie's mopeds are doing a fantastic job with running their business. I noticed that there were some people who wrote reviews that were bitter because they were refused to rent the scooter due to safety issues. Here's the thing, if you can't follow simple instructions and showed that you are a threat to other vehicles, people and your own safety then you shouldn't be driving a 2 wheel motorized vehicle! (even if it only goes 20-30mph) The gals that took care of our brief training and paperworks were very nice and quick. My boyfriend never rode a scooter before but he was able to operate it like a pro! Tips: -they will provide a map with a route that you will have to follow. If you want to go around the entire island, get there early. They open at 10AM. That way you can take your time while you look around and enjoy the view. -it can get really breezy/chilly while you are driving the moped so wear a long sleeve shirt + jacket and tennis shoes or boots. -dont forget to bring water and snacks as there are no convenience stores in between Friday harbor and Roche Harbor. -DON'T BE A RECKLESS DUMBASS! You can seriously hurt yourself. If you get any serious injuries, you will be flown off on a helicopter that might cost you $18,000 and possibly become a vegetable for the rest of your life.. I did a drop in for Suzie's when I decided I'd rather ride around the Island VS. bike (have a knee injury). Suzie was great - it had been a while since a rode a moped - and took the time to test run a few times with me to make sure I felt comfortable enough to scoot solo which is super important. Moped was in great condition and all worked well - even uphill. Used very little gas and at 2.5 hours, pretty reasonable. Tip: take the jacket they provide! They are genuine and extremely friendly, and super patient (after giving people the overview for about 1k times, they don't seem bothered by it at all). My mom and I went to celebrate her retirement. We choose the ScootCoupe so that we could actually talk to one another as we travelled the island versus being on mopeds where that wouldn't be possible. They are serious about wearing sunglasses and providing a helmet that is required to be worn. If you must bring a bag, make sure it is small since it will have to be in your feet area. They max speed they recommend you go is 25-30 MPH since it can become unstable any faster than that. They do also ask for you to pull over for the locals (who hate the mopeds and scoot coupes since they have to go so slow and mess up traffic). They were very patient with my mom who needed things explained twice and were even willing to let her take a little test run in their small parking lot to make sure she understood. They also offered us blankets which I am glad we took. Overall, it was a great experience with the business and it was super fun to have the ScootCoupe for the day as a way to explore the island. I knew of Susie's from being on the Island before, so when my husband and I planned our trip, I called them right up to rent one of their Chevy Trackers (convertible jeep). Even though we booked a few weeks in advance, and it was the end of May, they only had one left, so I was glad I made the reservation early! We arrived in Friday Harbor via boat and walked up to Susie's, which is just a few blocks from the ferry. We checked in quickly under a shaded tent and got a nice map of the Island with recommendations on where to go and what to see. We jumped in the jeep and we were off - and had a blast in this very roomy 4-seater with the top down. We had it for 24 hours (just $103 after taxes), drove around the Island twice and only used 2.9 gallons of gas! It was quick and easy bringing the car back, and I found out we can rent and take to other Islands next time - so we're definitely going to do that in the future. If I could give negative stars I would! We have been boating to the San Juan Islands for many years and know how much the islands rely on tourists. I contacted Susie's and spoke with Greg in July as we travel with a group of boats from our Yacht Club and wanted to ensure we were set for our trip. I had the phone on speaker as I was with the others that would be traveling with us and we were making all our reservations. We originally tried for August 18th 2021 but were told there was not 2 trackers available. We had 4 big tall guys and if you have seen a Geo tracker you would know it would absolutely be unfeasible. So we made reservations for the next day and regrettable assumed Greg knew what he was doing. We were all so looking forward to this day. We spend $75 to take a cab from Roche Harbor where our boats were moored and arrived at 0850 to start our adventure. We get to the counter after insuring all of our waivers are filled out. We are to have 2 scoot coupes, 2 Geo Trackers and a moped. The women at the counter states we only have 1 Geo Tracker available the other one is gone! Our group stood there dumbfounded at the incompentency of this place. The girl then goes and gets "Greg" who from the town people I understand is the fairly new owner of which no ones seems to have anything overly nice to say about him and his business practice and I can see why. He opens his book and says "Ya I made that reservation and I am very meticulous with my notes you only wanted one" I said well I too am very meticulous as are the rest of our group that overheard you but we must ALL be wrong and you are right. Now rather than do ANYTHING literally ANYTHING to try and make this right knowing we have a big group and we are standing here as our boats are on the other side of the island and nothing but one breakfast place is open in town as a business owner he chose to not only do NOTHING but stand there with a shit eatin grin on his face. When our group finally said obviously you don't need our business and we best not see a single charge from this fiasco he had the audacity to look at us and say "well I normally do charge". We said "Well Greg you may want to reconsider that since this most clearly was your screw up and as a business owner you clearly haven't figured out customer service". So we all walked away and then had to let 2 of the people we had left at the boats know and then they too had to take a cab over to meet us as we were going to send the 2 trackers over to pick them up. We had to just hang out until any of the shops opened around 11 or noon. We were amazed how many people in Friday Harbor had already heard horrible reviews about Greg the new owner. Word of mouth spreads fast. We all work hard and carefully plan our annual 2 week boating trip and to have a day just ruined by this clown who is absolutely clueless how to run this business. Bring back the original owners they were amazing and would go out of there way to make things right knowing you are on your vacation. Will NEVER use this place EVER. There are so many things he could have done to make something work for our group but it was more important that he was RIGHT and he took meticulous notes! What a jackass!! read more

We had 5 total 1 broke down during a uphill road and it started going backwards. Rey dangerous situation during the trip they had to come with a new one to replace it. Another moped had a wobbly Handel bar we showed the guy there he said its how it's manufactured. I checked Out the other mopeds and they don't do the same thing, after the trip I showed the owner and the guy and they lied about telling me it's how it comes. Be careful and drive safe. read more
