Telscombe and the surrounding areas are probably not renowned for their pubs, but the Tavern is really a very charming place. With a large bar area, a dedicated dinning area and a quite side room, it offers a little something for everyone. Food is served daily and the range is good, and the food itself punches above a lot of similar pub grub places. It's unlikely you would want to make the effort to come out of town for a visit, but if you have a dog, try the cliff top walk and end it with a refreshing drink here, you may be as pleasantly surprised as I was.

The meat is freshly cooked and you get absolutely loads of it with multiple vegetables, stuffing and Yorkshire pud. The waitress's are very pleasant and attentive without being obtrusive, and the cost is very good as well. Last night my partner and I had a burger and chips each, three large glasses of wine and a sweet to share. All of this for £23. This is because they do a 2 for 1 offer on burgers on a Tuesday evening. I'd certainly recommend it although beware Saturday nights if you want a quiet meal as they have live music after about 9pm.

Now that the dartboard and pool table are back, so are the majority of the locals and happier than ever! That's what makes this pub - a friendly local atmosphere and nice warm surroundings. They have Harvey's on tap and always have a guest ale or two on the go. Check out the dukebox, There's a few gems on there!

Sunday roasts (booking advisable) We have evening dining for special occasions. We are home to the South Heighton Bonfire Society (a Sussex tradition, look them up if you wish to know more!) We have 2 Darts teams, hopefully a pool team soon, Toads (another Sussex peculiarity) and many more Pub Games to try. We regularly have live music on Friday evenings (8.30-11.30), Sunday afternoon acoustic music following the meat raffle at 3pm. We have an outside smoking area, beyond which is a large garden with seats, tables and umbrellas (to keep off the rain or sun).
