Hubby holding his BD cake. Tired from NO off days due to DNC. Did not want his face shown.

Beautiful space; photo opportunities both inside and outside. This space is also Sazones. My place of employment has been ordering cakes for retirees and special events. One day, my crew and I were privileged enough to receive a slice of the red velvet cake. I was even encouraged to take a slice home. My husband was very happy as red velvet is his favorite. It is a perfectly moist crumb, nice cocoa flavor without being overpowering and not at all too sweet. The cream cheese frosting is the best! Some of my coworkers and I asked administration for the number to the bakery. Two weeks before my husband's birthday, I drove around to find the space. I purchased empanadas and placed an order for a small red velvet cake. My number was taken and I was told someone would reach out to me with a price. Never heard from anyone; no texts, no voicemail, nothing. I assumed everything was good and I would just stop by after work to pick up the cake. NO CAKE for me. The lady at the register said that they tried reaching out to me through text messages and since I didn't confirm, they didn't make the cake. She showed me her iPhone as well as the paper with my order. I said ma'am, that's not my phone number. Simple mistake; the number five was so close to the number one that it blended together to look like the number seven. Very apologetic and offered to fix it. They needed one hour. I decided to go for a walk while waiting. I received a text when the cake was ready and headed back to the shop. The cake was BEAUTIFUL, I knew my husband would love it. Pulled out my card to pay and they absolutely refused to take any money from me. I purchased two sets of empanadas to go and was trying to leave a tip, she flipped the screen around. I will definitely continue to frequent this business. The empanadas are really good. I'll have to try something else next time.

    Quesobirria Quesadilla Dinner

Cute neighborhood place, went there on a Saturday when their quesadilla plates were on special, yay for me! that I could try their birria. Ordered their elote as an appetizer as well. The staff seemed very pleasant and welcoming. The flavor of the elote was as expected, but the texture was a little disappointing as it seemed as if it was canned corn maybe? and not trimmed off the cob. The quesadilla dinner was fantastic, I picked the Puerto Rican style beans as my side, and I was so happy with the flavor and quantity of food. The beef was tasty and tender, and the broth was flavorful and chug-worthy. Would absolutely get this dinner again.

Ordered takeout to try Sazones for the first time. The jibaritos were good, but could've used more garlic sauce. The Puerto Rican rice was very good. They had a big mix of Mexican and Puerto Rican food on the menu.

Hands down one my favorite halal restaurants in the Chicagoland area. The service is always welcoming and the food never disappoints. There's a variety of cakes and my personal favorite is the tres leche cake. The dining area isn't too large but it definitely has a nice ambiance. The steak Jibarito with the sauces are fire. The empanadas were amazing as well. It's always a hit over here

This seems like such a great spot and I'm really happy that will be stopped by driving up through Chicago on a road trip. The woman that worked at the counter did not seem too friendly, but there was a man with glasses there that was friendly to my kids and talk to us about how the bakery had been there for a while, but the restaurant portion was not as well known, which is a shame because their food was delicious and the whole place was very instagrammable. I'm really happy that we were able to enjoy a few of the things I wanted to before went back on the road. Although I had a long list of places that I wanted to try well in Chicago, I still ordered a few things including the quesadilla (with the chicken on the side because my kid doesn't always eat it with chicken), the flauta dinner option, the empanadas and the quesabirria. Coming from Texas, I'm glad they got the quesabirria right! Literally everything was so good, especially the green sauce, which I want to say was like a chimmichurri. The inside of the place was so cute and I'm surprised that there aren't more people there, although we might have just come at an odd time. I am only in Chicago for a couple of days and I'm planning on going again, that's how much I liked it! Would love to try their tres leches!

Omg this place is one of beat hidden gems right here..I initially found this spot on the too good to go app where business participate in saving meals and selling them for less at the end of the day. Really good price and the food is still good.. anyway I went there and got the deserts and was blown away. The place is setup so cute and just so chill and relaxing to come to and get a nice lunch date in. Because it's all in one.. they have merged deserts and the Puerto Rican culture food minus the pork and no alcohol. The ladies I met were so really nice. She said they are from Puerto Rico and they have been in business for 8 years. The steak tacos I had were sooooo good and the meat was juicy and the toppings were just enough. I had two tacos and I was full off that along with the cupcake :) ..try this place and you will not be disappointed at all. I will be definitely going back.

Great food and desserts. Friendly staff! Some of the best food I've had in awhile. You have to try their desserts while here and take advantage of the most places to take a cute selfie.

Jibarito dinner, tostones, and papa rellena
    David S.

Walked in to a brightly lit clean restaurant. The staff was friendly, patient and helpful in our decisions. They have a nice affordable catering menu also. Jibarito was good nice thicker piece of asada. The plantains were not greasy. Garlic sauce did not overpower the flavor of the sandwich. The tostones also not greasy tasted fresh with nice flavor. At first I Did not care for the papa rellena, mostly a look thing. The papa was white not orange colored. They didn't taste bad they tasted good also not full of grease. I think for me they tasted better when they cooled down a bit. Overall good food definitely coming back. They have daily specials served all day. Cheese cake was amazing, cant wait to try other delicious items they have. Nice atmosphere, and priced fair.

The food here is so good. I love me some Puerto Rican food and this food is legit. I didn't realize they originally had a bakery down the road by the cemetery I visit family at. I've enjoyed their steak jibirito with arroz con grandules and asada papas locas aka loaded steak fries. My kids can share the fries and eat it like a meal. It comes with fries, topped with steak, cheese, lettuce, gauc, jalapeños, sour scream, and tomatoes. We've also tried their tres leches chocolate and my kids couldn't stop eating it.... The location is pretty cute too. While I haven't had a chance to dine in, I've gone in to wait for my food and they have a few picturesque photo opportunities.

Once again I absolutely love this establishment not only because the food is soooo good but because the owner is so kind. She really went above and beyond helping me.

This restaurant/bakery is a hidden gem. Latin cuisine but also has halal meat. The decor is very pretty and it makes this a very unique restaurant. It is located in a small plaza so it has pretty decent parking and the food is good. I will say their normal menu is a bit on the pricier side compared to other Latin restaurants, but they have some amazing deals for their daily specials. Those are amazing deals. The food is also very delicious and the lot cupcakes are also very good. I will definitely come back and try more food, specially their daily specials which are excellent deals. Updated review from my second time coming.. still a 5 star hidden gem place! Had the pollochon and the bistec encebollado and it was really good! Their arroz con gandules is also excellent! Their tostones is also amazing! I love this place and will be coming back!! My biggest critique is I think this place needs to have real silverware. The plastic ones are difficult to use.

The food is really good! I've had the cupcakes, and those are great, too. I had the beef quesabirria tacos before and decided to try the chicken mofongo. It was very good! I also had chicken empanadas. I'm happy with everything I've tried so far and plan on coming back to try other items.

I'd been excited to try this place ever since a friend told me about it. I like Mexican food, so anything Latin American sounds interesting. I had fried plantain chips when I was in Miami once, but this was my first time having proper Puerto Rican cuisine. It was a bit of a hike to get here because roadwork prevented me from taking the exit I needed, but we made it. The parking lot is small, though the restaurant felt spacious enough and is well-lit outside and inside. It's a fun and colorful vibe. They have a zabiha certificate by the cash register. The lady who served us gave an excellent overview of the menu, as I wasn't sure what some of the items were. Nice selection of items, and they have ready-made dessert, too, including flan and cupcakes. They also have mocktails and coffee drinks. We ordered an asada jibarito (steak sandwich in plantain) and chicken mofongo (meat served atop mashed plantain). The steak sandwich was excellent, although a bit on the dry side because plantain is dense. Thankfully they gave us four different sauces to try: a mild salsa, a spicy salsa, some sort of mayo, and chimichurri. The mofongo was also very good, and one of the more unique dishes I've had in recent memory. Both dishes came with white rice, which was short-grain and kind of sticky (not as sticky as sushi rice), and both dishes came with a bowl of beans on the side. We got dessert to go: tiramisu and pistachio tres leches. Wow! The tiramisu was pretty good; moist enough and good coffee flavor. The tres leches was amazing; so moist, and the pistachio flavor really shone through. Very pleased overall.

A friend and I decided to hit the Humboldt Park area (Western/Division) and take in some Borinqueña atmosphere and sights. After walking up and down Division Street awhile we stumbled upon Papa's Cache Sabroso. The place was jumping! The weather was amazingly gorgeous and outdoor seating was packed. There was a line for seating and takeout. The friendly host was doing an amazing job of keeping it all organized. We chose takeout and ordered a steak Jibarito con arroz y gandules and a side order of plátano maduro all totaling $22.27. As another reviewer noted it is a tad pricey but not overly so. It took about 20+ minutes to get the food...but like their sign states, something on the order of, "this is not a fast food place and good food takes time, please be patient". The Jibarito tasted good overall like other Jibaritos I've had in the past, however my friend commented that although the steak was flavorful, it was a tad chewy and I would slightly agree. The mayo, tomato and garlic kind of brings it all together for me, but I would've liked way more garlic...and there was even a small container of garlic "sauce", but it was very light on the mashed garlic paste. Whenever I dipped my plátano maduro, I couldn't get any pieces of garlic on until most of the olive oil was gone. The rice was standard and flavorful and I really did enjoy the plátano maduro. I would probably return to try the garlic chicken.

Anyways the rellanos de Papa was delicious and the feelings were b however the portion seem to be small that's why I'm glad I ordered too usually some of the Puerto Rican restaurants on north make their rellanos de Papa bigger. In the picture it seemed like it was regular size and it definitely wasn't. lol The cashier (front) young lady taking my order seemed unfriendly, There wasn't any welcoming upon entering the restaurant. They need to pay attention to what the customers are ordering.
