I hadn't been to this place in a long time, so I decided to give it another try. I was very disappointed in the quality of the food I received. I ordered Kung Pao Chicken (which didn't taste anything like it should), egg rolls, and soup. I got my food to go, so I didn't eat inside the restaurant. When I arrived, there was no one inside. Once I paid, the cashier didn't even say thank you. When I got home and took my food out, I realized that I didn't have any utensils, napkins, or a spoon for my soup. SMH!!! I've been here multiple times & I always enjoyed the food here up until my last visit with my girlfriend. The place was busy which I can see why the waitress would take a while, understandable but if am not pleased with the service i don't understand why the waitress feels the need to force people to tip or let them know that tip isn't included in the tabs total in front of other customers, but I'm clearly not the first person to experience this considering the other reviews. I don't usually leave bad reviews, but I felt I needed to share my experience at Sutha Thai Cuisine because it was truly disappointing. From the moment we arrived, we received zero positive interaction from the staff. We were polite, complimented the food out loud, and even unintentionally promoted their restaurant when a woman sitting next to us overheard us and decided to order the mango sticky rice because of our comments.But despite that, when we were done eating and ready to pay, the woman at the register rudely asked how much we wanted to tip, even though we were only there for around 10 minutes.When I chose not to tip (which I believe was completely fair in this case), she gave us attitude, made faces at us, and then told us we should only order "to-go" next time instead of dining in.That was incredibly disrespectful especially considering we were polite the whole time and even helped bring in another sale.Also, this doesn't feel like a real restaurant. You pay at the counter. They served tap water and charged us for it.This whole experience made me feel unwelcome and stressed out. This has become one of my go-to comfort food spots, their Tom Ka Kai soup can warm you down to the core and soothe your soul and your sore throat when needed. Wouldn't recommend this place, try another Thai spot. To ordered the pad thai with beef and it is beyond soggy. The noodles are super mushy. This is definitely over cooked. I also ordered "extra" brocolli for an additional $2 and I got about 6 pieces total. How many pieces do they usually put? What a rip off. Probably the worst distasteful Thai I've eaten before. This place was kind of hidden. We been passed this lot many times but you can easily miss this place. It was empty on a Sunday it was nice just to enjoy the good and leave. The inside it's really small and they have a bunch of toys all over the wall that makes it a little tacky but it doesn't bother me. The service was good! They come to you all the time to see if everything is okay. The letters on the sign outside make it look like it's a vape shop or a massage place maybe it's just the lettering. We were on our way to Disneyland on a Friday at 6pm (yes, I don't know what were we thinking too). We wanted to grab dinner but couldn't figure out where. My husband used to work in Downey and I used to always go to his work just so we can go to Sutha Thai for dinner. Right when we thought of that place, we exited the freeway and we were so happy that the place is still there! We ordered the following: Noodle Soup with Chicken ($8): this was excellent!!! Huge portion with lots of fresh veggies and white meat chicken. I highly recommend this soup to everyone. Spicy Basil with Tofu Dinner Special ($9): It came with shrimp fried rice, wontons and salad. Such a bargain!!! The food was so good!! Garlic Chicken Dinner Special ($9): My husband loved the dish. Pad Woon Sen with Chicken: I don't remember how much it was but I bet it was a bargain and it was delicious. With what we ordered, now I remember why we loved going here. Sutha Thai Cuisine in Downey... Mmm, that Kung Pao lunch special & Thai iced tea... First, some of the people that most recently wrote that the food portions are small must have A) not ordered the right thing or B) eat at buffets a lot or C) their stomachs have black holes. Second, other people mentioned (fall 2014) that STC has gone downhill. Last week was my first time eating there after passing it probably AT LEAST 100 times. I spoke to a lady who works at a different business at this strip mall. I asked, "Is that Thai place any good?" She replied, "It's been good ever since new management took over." According to her, this was recently. I'm not sure what her definition of "recently" is, but I am glad I tried it because... The Kung Pao lunch special provided an affordable meal with a hefty portion. I could not eat all of my rice when it was said and done. Actually I kind of stuffed myself. The entree for this special was piping hot - they wrapped my to-go order for that in foil (see pictures). I ordered it "spicy" which was perfect for me, but it might be too spicy for others. I was salivating whilst eating it because it had so much unexpected flavor. The fried rice was fine. The egg roll - I've had better, but it was decent. I doused it with soy sauce and all was good. The Won Ton soup that came with this special was decent. Again, not the best I've ever had, but it's not my favorite soup. That Thai iced tea, though... so delicious. Sweet, but not overly sweet. It tasted so fresh! Of course, I did walk into this joint to place an order shortly after it opened up (11AM). The lady who took my order was particularly nice. She said it was a 10 minute wait, but it didn't even take that long. After she handed me my to-go bag, she encouraged me to call next time and handed me one of those doorknob menus that they leave in neighborhoods. If I chose to eat inside - which I probably never will, but if I did - those glass displays of toys would be a big part of my experience. I'm not crazy about them. Some people will write them off as not that distracting. Others may be weirded out... Most of my time is spent around our baby girls who have no shortage of toys, so the last thing I want to see is a display of toys while I am eating Thai cuisine. It's not a place I would recommend for a business lunch meeting to say the least. I'm not sure I would rate this joint as highly if I eat inside, so I'm not! When my order came out, a pop version of "When You Say Nothing At All" was playing. I love that song, but it was quite unexpected from STC. Plenty of parking in front of the strip mall. "A" from Health Department. I'll keep trying dishes here to ensure this new management is the real deal. I honestly love this place. I originally ordered from this place because it's right by my house and has great reviews, but I see why. Every time I've called, I've always been treated nicely, they're always clear, and the food is fantastic. The restaurant is clean inside and has a lot of character. The delivery is crazy fast too, not to mention free if you're close. Yellow curry? BOMB Pad Thai? BOMB Thai coffee? BOMB Fried Tofu? BOMB Ribs? BOMB Lunch and dinner combos? What do you think?
