As soon as you walk in it feels unique and cozy. The decor is great with all sorts of color and items to catch your eye around the room. The inside area is small but an outside garden area adds a lot more tables and space. Came in during breakfast time and went with the "Apprentice" breakfast, as I heard the "Blacksmiths" breakfast is enough to feed an army. Breakfast was great with all the traditional items served perfectly and some delicious toast accompanying it. Took a look at the menu and saw all sorts of good looking sandwiches, wraps and desserts also on offer. Definitely worth a try especially if you want to stay outside the center of town area.

The location of the Cheltenham branch is very handy - it's central and sits just on the promenade which is definitely the nicer bit of town! The big glass windows on the ground floor are great if you can manage to nab a window seat, perfect for people watching! My only real complaint is the inevitable pre-planning and teamwork required to hook yourself up with a table and enough seats during the weekend rush.

The Bartender was really friendly and offered me samples of a couple of beers before I made my selection. The Feathered Fish has a number of local beers as well as your more normal options, a large wine selection and a great looking food menu. We actually enjoyed this place so much that we had a drink before dinner, went to dinner around the corner, and then came back for some after dinner drinks. Did notice a sign for their full Sunday Lunch special for £6.50, reason enough to come back!

It's a solid bar with a wide selection of beers, including some unusual finds from places like Norway, and more locally, some experimental English brewers. Which is to say, don't come here if you're looking for the standard selection of ales and lagers, as there's no shortage of that at any other pub in Northampton. Instead, Bar Hygge features some local and not-so-local craft brews. Of course, there's no shortage of beer-of-the-moment IPAs, but they also have Westmalle Dubbel, a superb dark Belgian Trappist ale. I have two points of contention, though: dissimilar service and a limited food menu. Starting with food, it's tasty but limited. Think of sandwich tapas. I had three of them, and each was nicely prepared aesthetically, and also flavourful. You can also put together your own meat and cheese plate. Just be warned its a pretty niche menu so you may be disappointed. The other point is dissimilar service. On my first trip here, I was allowed to open a tab while sitting outside. However, on my second trip I was told I could only start a tab if I was sitting inside. It's not a big deal, but nice to be extended this courtesy on one day, and disappointing the next. Still, these two relatively minor points don't significantly detract from what is otherwise a refreshing and unique choice for a drink in Northampton, for which Royal and Derngate should be commended, their vision for Northampton continues to shape the surrounding areas into a great town center.
