Build my own sandwich, kombucha and a chocolate croissant to go
    Danielle D.

This new spot on 1st street is truly a vibe. Beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces, gorgeous baked goods and other small bites. I went to meet a friend for lunch on a Wednesday at around noon. Both of us were able to find parking in the attached lot but know that peak times parking is fairly limited so street parking may be the only option. I did a build my own sandwich (rye bread, turkey, Swiss, tomato, mustard), a chocolate croissant (to-go), and a kombucha. These three items came to $30 which seems par for the course in austin but also is quite outrageous for a sandwich (a pickle spear was all it came with) a drink and a pastry. The sandwich was tasty and quite large (thank gawd given the price) and the kombucha was good (a local brand). My husband loved the croissant when I got home. Overall, super cute and vibey place but be prepared for austin prices and limited parking.

    Very skimpy lox bagel

Was really excited to finally check out Swedish Hill and unfortunately was let down. The location is beautiful, with lots of natural light, outdoor seating and a relatively warm staff. We came for brunch and were both craving lox and some pastries. They have a counter order system which works fine, with a curated display of offerings and to go items. When our food arrived we were a bit surprised by how underwhelming the bagels were. Barely any cream cheese, and even less lox. My wife got one skimpy piece on hers and I had the same issue. For nearly $20 each this was unacceptable. The iced coffees were filled to the brim with ice, leaving little room for any coffee. The croissant, while very pretty was surprisingly dry inside. The total for 2 lox bagels, a chocolate croissant and 2 iced coffees after tip was $76. For such a price I expected a lot better food wise. Left disappointed unfortunately, we had heard so many good things.

Everything you can get at Swedish hill is good! The pastries, sandwiches, coffee, salads, all delicious. The pesto chicken salad sandwich & the smoked turkey are my favorites. The way the place is set up makes it so you never have to wait too long. You order at the counter and then they bring your order to you. The place is lively and bright and I always enjoy my visit.

    Chewy not flaky pastries

For starters, my expectations were high when I visited this restaurant, and I left disappointed. For ambiance they excelled, but with the food there's nothing to rave about on average tasting food. The pastries were not flaky at all but chewy, as if they were from the day before. Very disappointed & left half of our pastries on the plate. The egg sandwich was dry, with 1 slice of bacon broken in half, tasteless eggs, hardly any sauce on the bread & 4 sprigs of arugula. Overpriced food, nothing impressive. On the other hand "if you drive to Sour Duck Market, you will taste the best breakfast sandwich you will ever have & excellent breads," just as good as the ones you find in Europe. The 3 stars are for the ambiance, or it would have been 2 stars given.

Came here with a friend and it is AMAZING! Got the overnight oats and a cortado and my friend got the quiche. We also got a cinnamon roll and banana pudding croissant to share. Everything was delicious and well thought out. All the dishes were cute and the service was quick. The inside had lots of good seating and they had heaters outside for outside seating in the winter too. A great place to hang out with people. I would definitely come back and enjoy!

    TREATS!

My grade excludes entrees as I've never moved past the pastry case, which keeps me coming back for more. The ambiance (sit outside!) and smiling faces are always a bright spot in the day, not to mention a range of everything gluten-filled to keep you loaded for that next marathon. My front-row favorite is their one-of-a-kind Raspberry Buckwheat Scone - texturally complex with the beautiful hearty grain, crystalline rock sugar, and a gooey berry center. It's a not-too-decadent treat alongside a classic Cappuccino. Not to be overlooked: one perfect Almond Croissant. Delicate, flaky, filled with marzipan and crusted with crisp almond slivers, another tea-time winner! Always a pleasure, thanks again and again.

The cutest bakery/cafe on south first! From the inside to the outside, it's decorated so nice. Love the vibes. I've had the breakfast taco, butternut squash soup, beet salad, and the vegan banana bread and enjoyed everything. Can't wait to try more of the pastries. The match was also really good, it had a strong matcha flavor which I like. Parking is a small lot but there is street parking at certain times.

Ah why did I come here. I wasted $40 for no reason. This restaurant looks very aesthetic. Clean design with lots of light wood finishing. They have a courtyard for dining too. It is next to the Austin sign so I walk in because I was curious. People are ordering and eating lunch. Maybe I should have get real food instead of pastries. Got a box maccron. Not good, not sweet. Not much flavor and it has a strange after taste. Almond crossiant is not much better either. Service is nice. They bring your order to you. There is also a 5% take out service tax. :0

    Egg sandwich on sesame bagel

Solid spot to go to for a quick bite in the morning. Small parking lot in the back and street parking available as well. Indoor and outdoor (dog friendly) seating available. Clean and spacious inside. Long lines the entire time we were there (until about 1:30pm). Get there early if you want to secure what you really want. While we were waiting in line, chocolate croissant, ham and Gruyère croissant, and everything bagel sold out. When I placed my order, they didn't tell me that they sold out of everything bagel and they automatically substituted it with a sesame bagel. Wasn't exactly thrilled about it and requested to get a bun instead. They gladly replaced it so I appreciate that. Ordered an iced matcha - can tell it's ceremonial grade and not the sweetened kind. Substituted with oat milk for an additional price. Macarons - they're a good size. Enjoyed the strawberry hibiscus and rocky road (forgot to take a picture, sorry!). Not overly sweet either. The everything croissant with cheese was tasty and flaky to perfection. Would definitely get it again. It was a little chaotic with so many people ordering and employees running around looking for numbers to complete orders. But I wouldn't mind coming back here again to try what we missed out on. For any out of towners - it's right next to the "greetings from Austin" mural. Great photo opportunity.

Recommend not going here at all. They have a really odd no computer policy. As they are a cafe, not sit down and order, it would prob ostracize their target demographic The food was expensive and didnt hit the mark. Otherwise, i wouldve really enjoyed, as the inside interior is really nice. Got a baklava eclair and macarons. Both werent great, with the inside cremes for both quite hard and cold, which was unexpected. Usually dessert still tastes good, but it felt like they didnt have much flavor or sweetness to either The staff was the main reason i would advise people to go elsewhere. Asked a gentlemen for an item and he didnt even look and said they didnt have it. I had to ask a female worker, and she confirmed they had the item and got it for me For their no computer policy. It would be fine if their food was still enjoyable, as their main attraction. They will probably actively ask you to not use computers, which i think is just an odd customer policy for what the place offers

Busy busy busy! Right across from Austin Natural Soapand Lenoir. Counter service like the original.location but this has more selection and has warm food. This is the Location to get rotisserie chicken plate. It's very good!!! I love that laptops are no longer allowed, it frees up table space sooner. Patio welcomes pups so we'll bring the dogs next time.

    Quiche, pastries, Swedish Hill latte

OVERVIEW: 3.5-4/5 - I've visited this new location 2x now and have had decent experiences. Where they shine is their pastries/bakery items - both times I've enjoyed a pastry and would definitely revisit for that! The rest is good but nothing to write home about. Coffee and drinks are your average Austin coffee shop lattes, lemonades, etc. Service is casual - order at the counter and pay and they'll bring out your items once you find a table. QUICK FACTS: - Parking? There's a lot behind the restaurant and street parking around the area. If you go during peak hours it may be tricky to find a spot. - Reservations? Not needed. - Outdoor and indoor seating available! FOOD/DRINK RATINGS: - Swedish iced coffee (3/5): The first time I had this, it was phenomenal. The coconut cream flavor really elevated it, and it was made well. The second visit, it tasted like a flavorless latte. Super milky, no sweetness, no trace of coconut flavor whatsoever. I asked for the coconut cream/foam to be added and they told me there wasn't any foam and didn't offer to fix it, so I asked for simple syrup instead. Inconsistent. - Seasonal Danish (5/5): So good. Flaky and buttery and fresh fruit flavor. Love this one! - Quiche (3/5): $14 for a slice and some greens. Not the best quiche I've had. Super oily and mushy. I probably won't order it again.

Dog friendly - yes Indoor and outdoor seating Parking - yes but busy Order inside, lots of fresh options of savory and sweet Coffee was good and strong, not watered down Service was friendly Egg salad sandwich was good! Fresh, not over eggy or mayo, stuffed and good balance. You can choose the bagel it's on. Banana cream pie tasted fresh as well, flavor of banana came through and not too sweet. Will def come back! Only thing is there are lots of flies outside so they need those fly fans at each outdoor table. Decor was comfy yet elegant.

Got parking right in front around 9 pm on a Wed. Upon entry was greeted by Melissa and sat in her section. The decor is very diner type with low, cozy booths and few tables and chairs. Ample amount of food and def had take away box. Everything was tasty and the buttermilk pancake was amazing with just syrup. Melissa was kind enough to provide little cups to take syrup home along with the tael away container. They had a daily special and a board above the kitchen with other items. We were both starving and this place is open 24/7. I drove by it for 20 years on the way to Avenue Barber Shop. I wanted shredded beef tacos but couldn't get them without cilantro so I chose shredded beef enchiladas (with an $8!) side of chips and salsa. My wife ordered scrambled eggs, bacon and home fries. She requested soft eggs, as she always does because too many places overcook them. The chips and salsa arrived. I was immediately disappointed. The menu said "we make our own chips." They were thick and yellow and appeared to be run-of-the-mill, out-of-a-bag chips. I prefer the thin white ones. I took one bite of salsa, and that was one bite too many. Cumin. I pushed it all aside. Cumin doesn't belong in salsa. (Sorry. I grew up in the Rio Grande Valley.) My enchiladas came with black beans, and there was cumin in them. Cumin is overused and abused in most restaurants. I couldn't eat them. The rice was good but the chipotle sauce on the enchiladas was not. I scraped most of the sauce off and ate one enchilada, mainly because I just needed something in my stomach. We were still 45 miles from home. I pushed my plate away. I also ordered coffee. One sip of that was all I could stand. Too weak for me. It gets worse, much worse. My wife's eggs were barely cooked. She asked the waiter for some cooked eggs. He took her plate and returned about four minutes later. The eggs were still not cooked. She tried another bite but couldn't eat them. Her bacon was tough as a boot and not chewable. The home fries were average, but by the time her plate arrived at our table for the second time, they were cold. I pulled my card out waiting for our excellent server to return. He asked how everything was (he had to notice two plates still covered with food) and we politely told him. I ate one enchilada and some rice. My wife had two bites of egg and two bites of potato. He apologized and handed me the check. $65. Nothing comped and nothing adjusted. A manager should've been summoned. How does a place like this have any customers? It was our first and last visit.
