A small charming little restaurant wedged between to Italian places in a small strip shopping center in Vienna. We came here as a large (12) family group. They were able to accomodate us. The owners/managers were very helpful and friendly. I opted for the Steak teriyaki bento box with came with steak (medium rare) teriyaki, rice, 3 tempura shrimp, 2 tempura veg, 3 cali rolls, 3 gyozas, miso soup & salad for about $22.00. The miso soup was good but the salad was avg. The dressing got really watery. The gyozas & Cali rolls were fair but generous servings of tempura were outstanding! Crisp & hot. Even after 10 mins. Not oily or greasy. The rice was cooked properly. The only misstep was the steak. The steak was also cooked properly at medium rare & looked beautiful. The inside was nice and pink. But upon chewing, the steak was not tender at all. Very very chewy. When you were young, you were taught fo chew at least 30 times. Well, this exceeded the recommended amount of chewing. The steak has a nice beefy flavor but just tough. SHAME. Overall, Sweet Ginger is a very popular and nice place to have Japanese food. The sushi plates (not pictured) were colorful and beautiful. BLUF: Consistently good food and service, and even though prices have gone up, it's still a decent value. Nice venue but small. Probably not the best place for large groups at peak times. Lunch is good for kids. Not a bad date night place. Worth the drive? YES! Probably been eating here for about 10 years. While there's been long gaps between visits because it can be a bit of a hike to get here, the food has always been quite good. NEVER had a bad meal or bad encounter here after all these years. This place has been really consistent in terms of food quality & every person who comes with me has always enjoyed their meals. Sometimes service hasn't felt all that welcoming, but it has never been bad. Popped into this little Japanese spot for a quick dinner. We were a few strip malls away at Jammin Java and had a few hours to kill before the head liner. Small dining area full of locals. I absolutely know why. We were seated immediately in spite of the crowd. Near the sushi bar. Huge menu. A vast array of sushi selections and Japanese dishes. We got sushi of course (not pictured). Fresh and delicious. Lots of wasabi and pickled ginger. Then we had the spring rolls. So hot and crunchy. Packed with shrimp but not filling. GET THESE! We also had the traditional soup and salad (traditional) My dinner date lived in Japan a few years and confirmed that his Yakisoba was authentically prepared. I tasted his and it was delicious. Packed with veggies and tons of protein. My fried rice was awesome. Served piled high in a little wok. Portions were incredible. Seriously, enough for lunch the next day. They didn't have a bar but do have a good bar selection menu with mixed drinks and Japanese Beer. I had Kirin and it was ice cold and satisfying. We had Alaska Roll, Yellowtail roll, and some of their specialities menu incl, beauty and the beast roll (eel), pacific roll and rainbow roll. I'm not sure what's changed, though, because the last time we were here, they said we only got the free miso soup or salad if we spent at least 30 PP, and we definitely spent less than that. While the sashimi, rice, etc. certainly were on par with what you normally get in Japan (and I would argue the pickled vegetables were better, different sour level), the biggest reason to dine here would be the staff. We had a member of our party with allergies, and our waitress provided world-class service: she seemed to know essentially everything that went into the menu, and how it compared to other preparations at different restaurants. Service was reasonably prompt and attentive even at 6 PM on a Saturday. We had no issues carrying on conversation in the establishment, and were able to pay/checkout/doggie bag with ease. read more

Their pad thai with grilled steak is supa good, lot of noodle and a good steak amount. Got their Mexican roll which was really good as well and then the bento box is never a miss. It's been years since I came back to Sweet Ginger, and it didn't disappoint. I ordered takeout: Philadelphia (sub smoked salmon for fresh), Alaska, red dragon, and crazy roll. This is by far the BEST sushi I have tried in NOVA, no comparison. The rolls were intact. Everything was fresh and flavorful. I asked for extra ginger and they were so generous with it. When you are still waiting for your pickup order, they offer you water/ tea and a seat at the bar. They ar extremely curteous and customer-friendly. They are attentive and keep your drinks filled. The sushi here is really good. I came here with a few friends and we ordered a bunch of sushi. We started off with a Miso soup and salad for each person. For the sushi, we started with with toro sashimi and salmon sushi. The toro was perfect! The interior seating is spacious. The booths fit 4 people while their tables fit more. We then moved on to the boat where we ordered the volcano roll, wasabi cream roll, omega roll, eel avocado, spicy toro roll, mexican roll, and more. I recommend their spicy mayo on the side and fresh wasabi. With these two items people tend to forget, it makes the experience even better. Came here for dinner, my boyfriend and I ordered the Omega-3, Mexican, Pacific and Crab Roll. This is the first time I've been to a restaurant where we ordered 4 different sushi rolls, and yet it all taste the same. The same sauce were used on all of the rolls. Very unimpressed! Our server, Goong, was absolutely unprofessional and unapologetic to her mistake. A person at our party ordered Thai Curry with vegetables. Our server then asked her if she wanted it with tofu. The person at our party answered, sure I'll have tofu. When the entree came out, the server dropped down a Thai Basil Tofu dish, which clearly not what she ordered. She bought it up to the server attention, the server then just shrugged it off and asked her if she could eat it. Everyone at the table heard our guest at the table order curry, so when we started looking over, the server just got quiet. No apologies. The person at our party just sucked it up and ate it, even though the right thing to do at that point is for the server to get her the dish that she ordered. Never once apologize!! Also during the beginning of our meal, our server Goong asked if it's going to be separate check or together. We told her separate. Throughout the time of ordering, we again explained to her who is on what check. At the end of the meal she brings out one check. We look at her in surprise and told her it was separate like we had mentioned. Then she just goes and shrugged it off like she doesn't know anything. Absolutely RIDICULOUS! She should not be treating customers the way she does and own up to her mistakes instead of trying to play it off like she doesn't know or understand what is going on. Treated my cousin to Sweet Ginger for his birthday and we were both amazed by the quality and quantity of food we received for the price paid. We made it easy for our patient and attentive waiter by ordering two Thai iced tea and the Bento Box A with beef teriyaki. Everything was cooked and prepared to perfection. Starting with the Thai iced tea; which was almost like a dessert. So smooth and sweet! It complimented the meal. The miso soup was comforting and had a balanced ratio of broth, tofu, greens, and green onion. The salad was fresh, crisp, and dressed with a rich and tasty peanut dressing. Of course, the highlight of our meal was the incredible bento boxes. The tempura shrimp and vegetables were my favorite. They were breaded to ideal crispiness and paired well with the soy dipping sauce. The vegetables were one big broccoli floret and large sliced carrot and zucchini medallions. The teriyaki steak was scrumptious, served on a bed of cabbage slaw with a generous amount of sauce. There was enough for me to dip other box components into, like the California rolls, tofu, and the Japanese dumpling. We dusted off everything. Not even the leftover salad dressing remained because we drank it all up! The whole experience was so much fun and we had a blast. Can't wait to go back. I always make a point to come here while in Vienna/Tyson's Corner. They have such a great selection of quality of fresh fish, sushi, sashimi, maki rolls and specialty rolls. Their apps are also great. My favorite is the Harumaki rolls. The combination of the sauce with rolls and the creaminess of the cream cheese -- omg. Honestly, one of the main reasons I stop in. When walking in, it is a bit dark and the design is a bit eclectic. It seemed like the restaurant was a bit understaffed and wait times were a bit on the slower side. I ordered 1 order of toro sushi, shrimp & vegetable tempura, and the chirashi bowl. The toro seemed a bit fishy and not fresh which had me nervous for the chirashi. The tempura was good and crunchy but there was too much breading on both the shrimp and the vegetables. Additionally, the sauce that they provided had no flavor so I opted to dip it in my soy sauce instead. My friend ordered the duck roll and she said it was good. Before the chirashi bowl, I was not really enjoying the meal but the chirashi bowl is what bumped it up to a 3 star review. The chirashi bowl was good and had fresh ingredients. I wish the vegetables didn't take up 1/4th of the bowl but overall the flavors were phenomenal. I gave this place overall a 3/5 stars because there are so many sushi restaurants in the area and this place is relatively average. This is your typical run of the mill local restaurant where the sushi quality is mediocre. You'll see the rice quantity to fish ratio too thick and the fish quality just ok. But this was to be expected. We were craving sushi and decided to give this place a try. It's been around forever in Vienna, we just typically don't eat sushi unless it's in the city. We tried the sushi sashimi combo plates. The fish was the most basic fish you can think of, but all edible. The restaurant was social distancing, but still using the regular laminated book menus. Nothing is more bothersome in a COVID world than not seeing disposable menus or QR scan codes for menus. At least they had sanitizer at the check in desk. The restaurant does get busy for dinner so definitely call ahead. There is one 4-person table outside, otherwise all indoor dining. Staff is nice as well. read more

After some connecting flights and hours of flying and a great Lyft ride, I finally made it to my friends in Vienna. We definitely worked up an appetite after all the traveling, so we took a little drive to one of the nearby plazas after looking on Yelp for sushi restaurants in the area. The lunch crowd was winding down and we were quickly seated and served. All the servers were following mask protocols, and there was a steady stream of patrons coming by for pickup and takeout orders. We ordered a California roll, shrimp tempura roll, JB Roll and a Philly roll. To round out the selections, we ordered their specialty duck roll, which don't be fooled, it was not a sushi roll. Instead, it was deliciously roasted duck with vegetables and herbs, held in a thicker wrap than an egg roll. It was incredible. The sushi came out quickly and was also good, but I was blown away by the oversized and artistic JB Roll, as well as the smoky salmon in the Philly roll. The textures and flavors of both were outstanding. Just to ensure the entrees were up to par with the sushi, we ordered the chicken red Thai curry with basil, which came with a side of slaw and white rice. The curry was perfectly spiced, just enough to open your pores, but not so much that you were reaching for your drinks. We really enjoyed the food, the service and the decor. I definitely need to thank the gentleman for this recommendation. Pleasant atmosphere, lighting makes the mood. Sat at the sushi bar, watched the masters at work. Very skillful. Theres an extensive menu with beers and sake, fairly priced. They were doing the business, Take -out was happening. I didnt have to wait to order. They were prompt, friendly and attentive. I had a peking duck roll, first time ever....duck is highly rated with me, if it's on a menu, a sure bet I'll get it! I can tell you these four rolls mexician, red dragon, wasabi cream and crazy roll were delicious. Good size, eight pieces at $10.95 per roll. Good deal ! You're going to need a wheelchair after eating here because you will be in a perfect food coma. This the BEST sushi place I have eaten at so far -- and that is for any place on the east or west coast. It's a flavor explosion! The sushi is so balanced -- fresh, full of flavor and the right amount of sauce and crunch. My favorites so far are the Pacific Roll, the King Crab Roll, and the Ninja Roll, but honestly, all of their rolls are above and beyond the best compared to any other place. I can say this even after having ordered thousands of dollars worth of sushi catering from many places during my career for different special events. This is my new go-to place for sushi! I visited here recently with a group after a meeting nearby. It was my first visit and although I would not be opposed to visiting again this is not someplace I would go out of my way to frequent. I went with the Thai option and gave them one of my basic tests -- I ordered drunken noodles, looked the gentleman taking the order in the eyes and said I would like it Thai hot. It was not Thai hot, honestly it was not even American hot. The drunken noodles were A-OK but lacked the contrast I was looking for. There are better Thai places in the NOVA area, although maybe not in downtown Vienna. (I may be spoiled due to a couple of spots in the Merrifield area. ;-) A couple of folks in the group went with bento boxes and reported they were A-OK. For me the advantage of this place is its location and the multiple Asian options. There was a shrimp appetizer that was particularly enjoyable and which I would order if I find myself here again. There was decent traffic in here for a Saturday afternoon although I imagine they do most of their business during the week at lunchtime due to their location near the Tysons end of the downtown Vienna strip.
