The owner, Gabrielle, was very welcoming and accommodating. He took care of the piercings himself, and he and one of the girls working that day helped me pick out the right size hoops. One thing I absolutely have to mention is that the shop only had one of the 12 gauge hoops I needed, so Gabrielle gave me a 14 to wear in the hole until the 12 arrives at no extra charge. I was in and out of the studio in less than half an hour and couldn't have asked for better service (keep in mind that this was August, when most shops in Rome are closed.) If you need some work done while you're in Rome, hit these guys up.

We messaged them through Yelp and got an appointment for the same day (I have a feeling they do a lot of spontaneous tourist appointments). The girl at the front desk was working on her own tattoo designs and ushered us into a comfortable and well-decorated waiting room. They have an €80 minimum and I got my first tattoo (approximately 3" across) for €100 (way cheaper than back in the States!) plus tip (which I know isn't as much of a thing here but seemed appropriate considering the circumstances) and a more experienced friend of mine got hers (5"?) with shading for €130. The shop was clean and hundreds of designs were displayed on the walls. If you aren't getting tattooed they ask that you stay in the front area but will allow one guest for the person getting a tattoo. But the artist- MATTEL- was just fantastic. He was professional but also acted as a friend- he spoke less English than the girl at the counter but was so helpful and reassuring and held excellent conversation. They were absolutely blasting some classic rock in the back which was appreciated and a good distraction to be honest. They sell the tattoo soap and cream in the store for a little extra and included some fun stickers. However, THEY ONLY ACCEPT PAYMENT IN CASH!!! Bring it ahead of time or the girl at the front will walk with you to the nearest ATM to watch you withdraw it. Overall an irreplaceable experience- I'm very pleased.

I'm pretty extensively covered in tattoos, and my wife has a few, so I kind of know what I wanted to get out of the experience. I don't want to deal with "too cool for you" shop vibes or shady shops that keep uncertain hours since we would be working with a limited time frame. After doing some searches, I stumbled upon Area Industriale and started a chat via Instagram DM with the owner, who was enthusiastic about our visit and reasoning for the pieces and their less than original design (we wanted the simple Roman numerals XVIII to recognize the 18 years) and had us booked and ready to go. The day of our appointment, we took a wonderful 30 minute walk out of the city center and through the local neighborhoods to the shop, which we found to be an awesome little space that was very well-lit and inviting. It felt more like an artist hangout or gallery than traditional tattoo shop. We were introduced to Norberto who would be doing the work, and he got busy setting up. I watched him do all the proper prep work I'm used to seeing in the states and he was very professional and had my two small pieces done in no time. Next was my wife, which was just as quick and pleasant. After settling our bill (which was very reasonable) they called us a cab and we rode away with our permanent reminders of our trip to Rome. My only regret was not having time to get a more extensive piece done. Overall it was a fantastic experience and I can't recommend Area Industriale enough.

As I was passing through Rome I'd figure I'd go ahead and chose this shop since it was near by and had such wonderful reviews I gave the tattoo "artist" the quote and he typed it out on the computer and I selected the font and text I wanted. After he stenciled it in I asked for the front to be a little bigger and thicker front, but the same style of writing. Once he completed it I anxiously got up to look in the mirror and noticed the guy totally missed the "A" and only put "Trust Few". When I pointed it out he proceeds to tell me the meaning is the same and he couldn't add the "A" because he basically left no space. No idea how this shop got such good ratings! Also, once I left the shop and arrived to the train station I noticed I had forgot my Versace sunglasses. I called and sent messages and i was told immediately that they "didn't have the time to look for nor were they in the shop and that I must have left them in the taxi" while I knew this wasn't the case because I distinctly remember taking them off as I laid on the table. Once I arrived to my final destination an hour away does the bald headed shop guy texts me and says he found a pair of sunglasses and to describe what mine looked like. I sent a picture and he said he had found them behind a table. I asked him to mail back to me and I'd pay the shipping costs and I was told "he didn't have the time" so, what do I do?!? I decided to go back on the train an hour each way to retrieve. This guy gave me such a hard time getting my sunglasses half way in route. He insisted I provide him with my passport number and identification and sign a document he wrote in Italian to receive them back...seriously?! They had no business asking me for such info. I notified the police and gave the shops address and text history and was told to go retrieve and if any issues to call them. When I arrived I did not show him my passport and signed a paper to get my sunglasses back. What a hassle. Also, why didn't I need to show identification to get the tattoo? But, he want my passport number to pick up my sunglasses I think he thinks he's the police or something. All I can say is BEWARE!!! Also, is a seedy part of Rome, too! I've attached a photo of the text I gave the tattoo artist and what I ended up with. Also, the bald head piecing guys demand to sign a hand written paper in Italian before he'd give me back my own property.

We walked in and were greeted by two ladies at a reception desk. This place gives more art gallery than tattoo parlor. Gone are the cheesy heats with daggers and mom tattoos, on the walls, replaced with original paintings. We knew what we both wanted, the two ladies were really helpful. They were full this particular day but they were able to scheduled appointments for us at 11:30, the next day. $50 deposit, industry standard, was required to book the appointment. They do give you an estimate of time price for each tattoo. Saturday morning we show up, I meet with the tattoo artist, Giorgia. I just wanted a simple green, grape leaf tattoo. I had a picture of the leaf. She goes in back, to work on the piece. We talk about maybe doing more of a fall color for the leaf, From green to yellow and green edges of the leaf to a reddish tinge. The Giorgia asked to use color for the stem instead of black ink. I agree, she's the artist in the canvas. We start and this is my 11th tattoo, I've never seen anyone work like this. It was more like a painting than a tattoo. She layered color and shaded colors. Then end result is stunning. I couldn't be more happy. So glad we came here.
