The shop also have a ample range of gifts already wrapped waiting to surprise a new owner, ample considering it is really only a very small store, I am guessing you couldn't fit more than five customers in there all at once. Go take some friends and try it for for yourselves, prove my theory wrong!

The shop although tiny, is set up so that every little and big sweet is on full display. This makes it incredibly difficult to bypass it without purchasing a little something, or a lot of something. I like it because they have a great selection of foreign sweets too, which can sometimes be hard to come by. What I don't like is that it is a little on the expensive side for my liking, and of course the fact that all the sweets are terrible for your health! Also, you can't really tell what it is that you are purchasing, because not all the products have their ingredients listed on the packaging, and some sweets don't even have packaging (gross).

The service is friendly, patient and very knowledgeable; because of this I can never leave without a box of ten chocolates and a bag of their delicious Russian caramel fudge. The staff really make it an experience and because of this, I've become a regular here. You'll be dying to try all the flavours they provide, and its an extensive list. For someone who already knows what they're after or they're short on time, they do provide a range of pre-packed candies, chocolates and bars to suit any need. My favourites include the almond rocher, coconut snowball truffle and the roasted almond honey truffle- all to die for! Take a few flavours home with you to try- you really won't be disappointed.

An orderly and uncluttered store that stocks imported European treats, primarily Finnish and Dutch sweets. There's stuff here not just from Japan but seemingly the whole continent. And most strangely, you think it's a lolly shop but then you see the processed pork snacks (no need to refrigerate), seaweed/seafood/mystery wotsits and other scary but cutely packaged items. Some of the lollies are actually quite tasty once you get over the spongy texture and the weird ingredients. Come, look, pick'n'mix, be brave!

This place is worth coming to just to look at all the immaculate little pieces of design. No lolly is too small, too insignificant that it can't have an adorable cartoon character and some nice typography on it. As for the sweets themselves: well, it's a mixed bag (sorry if that's a pun). Some of them are pretty familiar to a Western palate (lemon, strawberry, etc) and some, while less familiar, are still very nice. A few were a bit strange tasting, and I wasn't quite convinced. But that's half the fun of this place; it's like a lucky dip. It's almost better the less you know about the products, that way it's more exciting to find out what you've got. Oh, and for those with less of a sweet tooth they also have savoury snacks. But that's alright, the same game can be played with them.

This then also extends on to the customers, they go out of their way to help people; AND to their competitors as well. Organic stores in Auckland have a rich interlinked history I recently discovered, including that this store is also owned by the guys in Grey Lynn, Harvest Whole foods. I admit that I am not around this area enough to call it my local, but I know several people that do. It has a great reputation and for good reason (even if not the 'cheapest' of organic stores). One of the particular draw cards about Huckleberries is that they sell meat, (as opposed to Harvest). This is great for those of us that are still carnivores but like to know about the sources of our animal consumption. And I can buy pork free snags here - yay! Recently I have been on the hunt for some ethical-eco black eyeliner, I noticed on their website that they stock some, which is great as I was almost ready to give up hope for anything local. The black pencil variety cost $31.00, and I will be making a trip there very soon for that indeed! These guys have a great website too and list the specials for those of you that may want to check it out before you go on in.
