Sweetsboro Pastry Shoppe has been here for years and this is the only place that I get cakes from when I'm visiting back home. Their quality is amazing as well as their prices. It's everything I expect out of a cake! We had visited when we came back for a two week visit and needed to order two cakes! We ordered one cake to celebrate our recent engagement with our family, and we ordered another cake to celebrate our mom's birthday while she was here visiting! Both cakes turned out amazing. They are exactly what we wanted style wise and taste wise. We love that the icing isn't overly sweet, and that it's creamy. The engagement cake was a chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream, and the birthday cake was a marble cake with vanilla buttercream and flower decorations. Everyone loved the cake and thought it was perfect! We love that we have a special bakery to visit when we are home, and one that we can trust to make special events perfect with a sweet treat! I had tried their vanilla cupcake as well as the mini cheesecake and unfortunately was not a fan. The vanilla cupcake tasted like a regular cupcake but the frosting was just too sweet. We were told by one of the workers that the cupcake frosting was a vanilla buttercream but it did not taste like buttercream, it tasted like sugar frosting. The mini cheesecake had the faintest cheesecake flavor to it. The cheesecake base, crust, was so thin it was practically nonexistent. Each bite was almost all cheesecake with little to no crust. After a debacle of an unfilled order at a local grocery bakery, my daughter made a last minute run to Swedesboro Bakery for cupcakes for my granddaughter's birthday. She bought them out of their display case. I am not a dessert person,but I have to say these cupcakes were yummy! They were chocolate cupcakes with chocolate frosting and sprinkles. I loved how light the cake was and the frosting was fudgy chocolate! Will be stopping for more next time I am in town. read more

Super small, with a suprisingly limited selection. We stopped by here to grab some post dinner desserts, after reading that they had good cream puffs. We walk in, and the store was a lot smaller than expected. One worker; pleasant but not overly personable. The selection really broke down between a couple of regular flavors of cupcakes, or like whole cakes. I think they had a few danish options as well, but there wasn't room for much. My daughter wanted an oreo cupcake, but they didn't have any. Then, the worker said that she could make one FOR her, if we waited a couple of minutes, as she had cookies and cream icing in the back. Very nice, very much appreciated.....except that, oops.....upon checking, they don't have that icing. So, The Little One settled on a vanilla cupcake with chocolate frosting, and the worker asked us if we wanted anything else. "Yeah, I heard you guys have good cream puffs. Do you have them?" No. No cream puffs either. I didn't want an entire cake, or a plain cupcake, so we just got the one and left. It was only like a $1.50, so the price was great, but I was a little disappointed that they didn't have something else that struck our fancy. read more

I used to love this bakery and recommended them to all of my family and friends. But over the last couple of years it's gone downhill. Their cakes still taste great (if you can manage to order one) but I have gotten rather stale tasting pastries from their case more than once. The biggest problem is their customer service. They're a very busy bakery which is great. However, it makes it difficult to order. I needed to order a birthday cake and it was about 2 weeks before I needed it. I called 17 times over the course of a couple of days. I called at various times of the day during their business hours and no one ever answered the phone. You get a recording saying not to leave a message so you can't even get them to call you back when they have a moment. You just have to keep trying and hope you get lucky. On the 17th time I called I drove the 20 minutes there before I called. I stood in front of the bakery and called them. Not a single customer was inside at the time and I could see 2 workers behind the counter talking to each other. My call went unanswered. My parents recently decided to give them one last shot. They needed to order a birthday cake. They had the same problem. No one ever answered the phone despite multiple calls. They finally gave up and ordered from somewhere else. The cake we got at the other place was honestly just as good as Sweetsboro so we will be using them from now on. I'm happy for them that their business is booming but having trouble placing an order is becoming a more common problem. Several of my friends have also had an issue and they've all taken their business elsewhere. If they keep this up they won't have a booming business forever. Maybe they need a way to place online orders or hire more people to answer the phone or expect the employees there to actually answer especially when they're standing there with no customers and the phone is ringing. It's a shame to say goodby to a business I had liked so much for so long but after giving them multiple chances I can't keep doing it and I will also no longer be recommending them to others. read more

This is a quaint local bakery, and they are AWESOME! We visit here fairly regularly, and everything we've ever had, received as a gift, or presented as a gift have all been quite delicious and looked great too. There are a few girls that work here, and the staff is very friendly, patient, and always willing to help make recommendations and walk customers through different options. We've ordered pies and cakes, and bought an assortment of bakery items. All the staff is very helpful, but an extra special shout out to Lauren who is always ready to help with a great smile and full of positive energy! Thanks Lauren! Stopped here on my way down to Baltimore. It's a really old-school bakery in a tiny little town. They sell doughnuts, pastries, cookies, and cake. In the 10 minutes I was in the store, three people were picking up large custom-designed cakes that looked fantastic. I actually stopped in twice. The first time, I got a spinach and feta pastry (like a handheld pie), which was fantastic. The pastry crust was soft, yet had a nice crust. The spinach and feta filling tasted great. It's a great pastry to start the day. I also got a mocha chocolate chip muffin which, while tasty, wasn't my favorite muffin. The texture made it taste a lot like a Costco muffin instead of something made in a nice bakery. Together, the pastry and the muffin came to around $4, which was a bargain. I liked the spinach and feta pastry so much I went back to get more after realizing how good it was, but they had sold out. I ended up going for two turnovers (apple and cherry) and a walnut bar (or was it a cashew bar)? They all tasted great. The walnut bar was delicious and was just mildly sweetened, so the nut flavor stood out. The turnovers had a nice flaky exterior with sweet filling. Even after a day, it didn't get soggy. If I'm ever in the area again, I'd definitely come back here. I wish I was local so I could order a whole cake. read more

It's no McMillan's, but when rated against other businesses in the Swedesboro area, this place is fantastic. It's also very small. There's 10 seats total (four at one table, six at the other), a few coffee selections, and a ton of sweets, hence the shop name. Sweetsboro is located in the main strip of Swedesboro across from Tavro 13. They serve up pretty much any baked good you could want, but seem to specialize in cakes. Their prices are affordable, and I chose a raspberry crumb cake for $4.75. My mom was a bit disappointed with her cookies and lemon danish, but she vouched for the lemon pound cake. Small, local store that caters to the neighborhood. Two people came in while I was there to pick up preorders. The one person ordered a dessert tray so when I entered, I had to wait a solid 6 minutes for someone to emerge from the back. The other customer informed me that the cannolis were being filled and that's why no one was there. I got one of the "nature bars" which was a delicious nutty number with coconut flakes. This was delicious and reasonably priced but I ended up wearing some of it because it is so crumbly. Do not eat it in the car! 5 stars The caramel apple tart was cloying sweet and had too much pectin to the point that the apple filling tasted like it was from out of a can. The caramel was not gooey and too sugary in texture. 2 stars Service was 3 stars as some one else was in the back during this AM rush. read more

It made me so happy that it was still in the gallery and other brides might want to have a cake like mine! Ok back to the birthday cake! I ordered chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream icing. It was perfect so moist and fresh. I picked the cake up on Sunday afternoon and it was as if I just picked it up when we ate it on Monday afternoon at work. All of my Philadelphia co-workers wanted to know if I went to any of the "well know" Philly area bakery's. I said no- I supported my local business. I love everything that Sweetsboro has to offer. VERY Disappointing experience. Planned a bridal shower for my sister in law and took in an image of a cake my friend had made but could not make for the shower. Sweetsboro said they could replicate it in light pink with the text we wanted. The cake in my photo on the right is the example. The one on the left is what they gave us. When my mother in law went to pick up the cake it was missing the text, and the bouquet. The dress is not finished at the bottom as it should be and the color is not what we asked for. What really gets me is how almost unreadable the text is they added last minute. It seems to me that the bakery had either too much going on or did not have trained staff. This was embarrassing to present at the shower. Additionally, many said the icing was too sweet and the cake was too dry. I had heard that this bakery was one of the best in the area and now makes me worry about the wedding cake my sister in law is going to be getting from them. I would suggest following up closely with the bakery before moving forward with them. Very unpleasant experience. read more

This town has a lot of nice shops in it. This bakery has added to the town's quality places to eat. A small shop, but plenty of good and original items to purchase. The first thing that caught my daughters eye was the lady bug cookie. It was a cute little cookie decorated nicely. I also bought a red velvet cupcake and a chocolate chip cupcake. I have a couple.birthdays coming up, and will come back here for their cakes. Everything is priced reasonably. Let me rephrase that. There's no need to pay premium cake prices when you can get the same quality cake decorated in the same manner as some of the well known bakeries, but for much less. I needed a birthday cake at the last minute so we bought a birthday cake from Sweetsboro Pastry Shoppe. The cake was STALE it was dry and half the cake was somewhat hard!!! This is the second time this has happened to us from this bakery. We always order our cakes in advance but in these two instances we weren't able to. We had an assortment of mini-pies and Pumpkin Cheesecakes delivered for our Fall wedding at Rodes Barn down the street. Sweetsboro Pastry was a great value AND the pies and cheesecakes were so delicious! The guests really loved them. Each pie was fresh (baked that day it seemed!) and the crusts were perfectly baked. We are thankful for the referral of them. Wonderful little pastry shoppe and bakery! I was planning for a small, informal wedding in my home on Christmas Eve, rather last minute. I didn't want a typical wedding cake (I hate fondant, and wanted cake & icing that actually taste really good more than looking "perfect") so I decided instead I wanted several small cakes in various flavors for guests to choose from. They were super-helpful in picking out three flavors that would complement each other while also being different. Everything was ready on time and delicious! Our guests especially raved about the peanut butter cake, but I loved the chocolate with banana and strawberries the best myself. Thank you for helping to make my wedding memorable...and delicious! A former coworker from the area brought in donuts a few times. They might have looked a little bit like Dunkin Donuts because the flavors were similar, but they didn't taste like them at all. They were fresh, soft, and tasty. I could have eaten the entire box! I finally got to go there a year later, and when I did I got a cinnamon cupcake and a brownie, ate them both in the same night, and had no shame about it. I went right before they closed on a Saturday night and they still had much to choose from. This place is so cute, and if I lived in Swedesboro, I'd have to stay away so I didn't eat it every day!
