We went for a celebration dinner that overlapped with early World Cup games and it was clear the restaurant had drawn in some visitors from abroad who had heard good things about it from their Seattle hotels/lists. Great to see. It's bright and breezy inside and the seafood comes out in delightfully large plates of fresh, thinly-sliced fish and shellfish. These have been beautifully paired with herbs and oils and chilis. We especially enjoyed the Day Boat Scallop Crudo with capers and lemon. I could have eaten just this with perhaps some fresh bread and a martini (or two) and have gone home happy. We also really enjoyed the Littleneck Clams with chorizo and the Ahi Tuna Crudo with chili crisp and sesame vinaigrette. read more

What a great seafood find on our day trip to Bainbridge! Located in the heart of town, easily walkable from the ferry. The food and beer were perfect, especially on a hot July summer day. They have a cute outdoor patio and the inside has plenty of seats with a decent bar. The only reason I can't give them 5 stars is the slow food service. They were quick with serving the beers (4 pints finished before appetizers came). One salad and burger entree came before the prawn cocktail and chowder soup. The half loaf of sourdough bread came last after a couple reminders. But once the food finally did come, they were honestly sooo delicious that every last morsel was gone, NO leftovers! Overall, I'd recommend this new restaurant on the island, even if they have a few kinks to work out on their service. read more

Sweetwater Tavern is a really fun addition to the Bainbridge Island dining scene! We sat outside on the small, sweet patio (4 tables) and it was so pleasant. The inside is really cute, too. The menu is very seafood focused and everything we tried (oysters, crab cocktail, clam chowder, steelhead blt) was wonderful. I think the menu would benefit from some kind of cheese plate or something else more land based to break up all the options from the sea. The service and food delivery was a little on the slower end, but we were not in a hurry. We did decide not to ask about dessert, though, because we didn't want to sit any longer... All in all, I'm excited to go back and there were enough items that interested me that I could have a completely different meal next time. I'm guessing some of the timing issues will be worked out with time and experience. read more

To start off well, the servers were very friendly and the inside is decorated well. Service was very slow and all of the people in my group had undercooked food. My steelhead sandwich was raw in the middle and had the gross rubbery/slimy texture of undercooked fish. We came here for lunch after flying in on a 6am flight, renting a car, taking the ferry over to Bainbridge Island, and finally eating for the first time that day. Anyway, it was lunchtime, I was surprised how empty it was but by the time we left it was packed. We ordered the clam chowder which is the best we've had so far (we've been in the area for three days now). Highly recommend. Then for lunch entrees we had the crab roll and tuna melt. My partner absolutely loved the tuna but wishes it was more of a sandwich rather than a tuna melt on a piece of bread. Just a little harder to eat. The crab roll was great, I enjoyed it. Cute spot in the middle of the port area. Would definitely go back. read more

I had never heard of Sweetwater Tavern before, but I'm glad I ended up trying it! The Local King Salmon Belly Tartare was really fresh and had a nice texture without feeling too heavy. I really liked the furikake on top, and the wonton chips worked well as a vessel for the tartare. The grilled wild swordfish was also good, though the fish was a little tougher than I would've preferred. The bagna cauda was really flavorful and the grilled lemon added a nice brightness that balanced everything out. I also liked the broccolini: it still had a nice bite and went really well with the sauce. The inside is modern and nicely decorated, and the service was super friendly. It's a close walk near all the popular shops by the Bainbridge Island Ferry Terminal too. read more

we only ordered the oysters - $40 for a dozen. it took quite a long time to receive them, aligning with other reviewers re:the wait. they opened in march and summer is close to over so they've also gone through a busy season, which means... it shouldn't take that long when they're not full. we opted not to try anything else out of interest, and i'm glad we didn't since that took long enough. ironically after our long wait, the table next to us received their salad and bev's within the same timeframe. the oysters tasted good which i'd hope so, but both of us found pieces of shell in at least 3-5 oysters. there were a lot of teens working, which made me wonder who is shucking them. i appreciate that they're training teens though, despite it being a fancier restaurant. overall just okay, knowing we can get the same quality oysters for less $ and no shells to be found, with a turnaround of minutes in Seattle though - unlikely i'll return. read more

We sat at the bar since it was busy. After that, it fell apart. Bartender Ian was the issue. No intro, slow to engage, felt selective with who he gave attention to. Just bad service, plain and simple. Food started strong. Clams with white beans and chorizo were solid. Then the basics got missed. Zero menu knowledge, overexplaining, and both steaks came out wrong. I ordered medium, got raw and cold. My girl ordered well, got medium. We stopped eating. Check-in came late, no effort to fix anything. $133 total, which is high for what we got. This wasn't about a seafood place messing up steak. It was about poor, selective service. If Ian is your bar standard, that's a problem. Not coming back. read more

Before posting this review, I made a genuine effort to share my concerns directly with the restaurant. I called and left a voicemail and also completed the feedback form on their website, providing both my phone number and email address. Despite those efforts, I never received a call, email, or text in response. Unfortunately, we chose this restaurant for a special lunch with friends, and it ended up being the low point of an otherwise enjoyable day. The service was extremely disappointing. At one point, I found myself clearing dishes and glasses from our own table because they had accumulated and no one was attending to them. What made the situation even more frustrating was that the restaurant did not appear especially busy, making the poor level of service difficult to understand. The food was equally underwhelming. The shrimp cocktail was unpleasant to eat. I ordered the steelhead sandwich and managed only a few bites; the fish was dry, lacked flavor, and was simply not enjoyable. The Po' Boy was also dry and bland, and we even found shell fragments in the crab. I am sharing this feedback because we trusted this restaurant for a gathering with friends and left feeling disappointed by both the meal, the service, and the establishment. read more

Excellent shrimp Louie salad, but the staff seemed overwhelmed. I wanted to give it a try since it opened recently, and the place was packed at around 5pm on a nice-weather Saturday. I stood in line for about 15 minutes while the hosts tried to figure out where to put walk-ins like me. I kept eyeing the single bar seat available, but didn't want to interrupt their intense discussion over their seating whiteboard while the party of two ahead of me waited with increasing frustration. Eventually the two were seated at a corner of a communal table. I got a seat at the bar after the hostess took 5 minutes to wipe down; after 20 minutes the bar had cleared to five available seats. The bartender was slammed, so it took a while to order a salad and can of beer ($24 and $6 for a Rainier tall boy). The salad took just a few minutes to arrive, and was generously portioned and delicious, with a great house-made thousand island dressing and lightly dressed greens. After finishing, it took another 20 minutes of trying to catch the eye of the super-busy bartender to cash out, even after signaling to the staff helping him at the beginning. All told, seems like very tasty food at a Bainbridge Island price point (i.e. very high), and it'll take them some time to figure out heavy traffic. Everyone was nice, and the ambiance was hopping, with good tavern-like music in a bright, upscale non-tavern space. read more

I have been dining as a visitor to Winslow for 30 years. Lots of eateries come and go few have the culinary bones to survive. A bit of a an off street location and well worth the hunt. Front of house is friendly and accommodating. We were a six top no reservation on July 3rd during a street fair. We shared a high top with a couple. The menu is tight and extremely diverse built around local seafood. Lots of small plate options which makes for a great foodie adventure. Do not miss the Sardine Toast, Hamachi Crudo, Oysters du jour and garlic fries. Shrimp, chicken wings and caesar were well prepared with well developed flavors. Craft cocktails and a well paired wine list was an added bonus. Ambiance was a bit austere and would expect some local art to grace the walls and help reduce the bright sounds. read more

This is my first time here and my friend could not rave this place enough. The food was delicious but unfortunately our server, Joshua was not very efficient with the service. It took 20 minutes to take our order and then in comparison to the table next to us they received their food with 10 minutes. The table behind us who arrived 30 minutes after us received their oysters and fries immediately. Once our oysters, we were only served 1 dozen when we had asked for 2 dozen, our server stated he thought he only heard 1 dozen. My friend also ordered another glass of wine but did not receive. Lovely new place on Bainbridge! We've been twice and have tried multiple things on the menu. The wedge, ceviche, razor clam dip, the crudo, the burger, fries--all amazing! The biggest hit at the table was the chili shrimp but I can't speak to that because it was too spicy for me. Same with the steelhead BLT. But I think that's a me problem. Peanut butter pie cannot be missed. Service can be a smidge slow when busy but that's to be expected. Great cocktails, very fun atmosphere. We'll be back! read more

Very Highly Recommended! Located at the former site of Restaurant Marché, Sweetwater Tavern is just that, "Sweeeeet...! Chef "Pete" has brought together a fusion of Pacific NW and Spanish styles to wow even the most discriminating pallet. The restaurant was well staffed, and our busboy, Desmond, kept a watchful on our table throughout the evening. The Menu is extensive, and we were pleased to learn that it changes seasonally. We started with a dozen Indigo and Otter Cove oysters. Perfect! The iced jalapeno dip was a first for me, and it was a sensational taste mate for the Otter Cove oysters. I asked Tim, our waiter, to pick a wine. His choice was outstanding! Not the typical Sauvignon Blanc or Chardonnay I would have expected, his choice brought back fond memories. Yes, he picked a "green" wine from Spain - an Albariño - crisp, aromatic, dry and acidic with a hint of citrus. We followed the oysters with sardine toast (insane), and a Caesar salad which of course had the requisite fresh anchovies. My wife chose the Ceviche Tostada and I had the Scallops. Everything was cooked and served to perfection. Yes, I'm a food critic, and I'm highly critical of most restaurants on Bainbridge Island. However, our neighbors had insisted that we try the Sweetwater Tavern, and, as Anton Ego, the feared critic in the animated film ""Ratatouille," said, "I'll be back for more. read more

We've lived on Bainbridge for a long time and were excited about this new spot for a good night out. The hostess greeted us (6 pm) by saying that our table would be needed at 7:30. 90 minutes for dinner didn't seem to be a problem. The place was incredibly loud and clamorous inside and in fact it was hard to hear our waitress when she arrived to take our order. Order was completed. After about 15 minutes our waitress returned to say there was a problem with the petrale sole which I ordered and I I would need to order something else. I ordered a fish sandwich. She returned about 5 minutes later to say that they'd found a good piece of fish (!). I said no thanks and stuck with the sandwich. Shortly after this my two friends' dinners arrived. They started eating, time passed, and they kept eating, and still my sandwich didn't arrive. They felt bad eating when I had no meal. We've never experienced this before at a restaurant. My friends actually finished their meal before my sandwich arrived, which was about 20 minutes after I ordered it. All in all it was close to 45 minutes before I got my fish sandwich - a nice piece of salmon on a very processed white bread bun. We were given the check without being offered the dessert menu or coffee. They needed us out of there by 7:30, and my dinner had taken 45 minutes to arrive. This was a celebratory meal with friends, and was a complete disappointment. These folks are in way over their heads. We won't be returning. read more
