I went there twice yesterday, once to buy…read morepostcards and once, before we left the town, to pick up various leaflets about places to visit, and ferry timetables. There are lots of glossy postcards for sale at two prices (for small or large). This is probably the best place to buy cards because I didn't see any for sale anywhere else. There are also lots of beautiful Scottish gifts, from china mugs and other kitchenware to shortbread and fudge. The two ladies working in there yesterday were really helpful. Found near to the large car parks near the water, on the main road. Definitely well worth a visit on your way to, or from, the town centre on foot.

There is entertainment all day for all the family, including pipe bands and highland dancing, not to be missed. This event promotes all the lovely food shops in Castle Douglas and happens every year. Well worth a visit with all the family x

We needed to get from North Ireland to Scotland and we weren't exactly sure that day or time we…read morewould be doing this. The first part of our trip we had more planned out but the northern Ireland was ?? We knew we were going to visit giants causeway but other things were a maybe. We dropped off car near the airport and picked up car from different company as we last minute decided easier to already have a car. Hubby booked us the upgraded status which allowed for changing times is we missed the 11:30. Better internet. Comfortable louge area with drinks and snacks. Can't resist free .. even though we paid for the privilege. There was wine, juices, sodas. Brownies were yummy. Olives, cheese, chips ect. Very Comfortable way to travel. Thought we were bougie till saw some had better view with huge windows and recliners. Jealous

I give 11 out of 10 for homestart Wigtownshire ;) Mary,…read moreFiona, Claire and Noeleen are all very lovely caring, genuine ladies. The homestart volunteers have been an amazing lifeline, and the group is amazing too. The groups are fab as they are a great place to meet other mums and dads, lots of craft and activity ideas for your kids, we often do some of the same activities at home with the other children. The groups always encourage the children to try various healthy eating foods, and there is always someone to chat to and often the other mums etc have valuable parenting tips and shared experiences. Homestart Wigtownshire have great trips and activities out as well, and the Christmas party is always sooo much fun! So if you are considering homestart, id say go for it. I was a bit shy at first but can say look forwards to the group play and meet sessions (Tweenies) and now consider the homestart ladies as very genuine, welcoming friends :)

Eat out here with family 2 or 3 times a year and always enjoyed a good meal (and a quiet drink)read more

The Bruce Hotel is located on Queen Street, Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire. It is set into one of the…read moremain streets in Newton Stewart so it is not easily recognisable from a distance however as you get nearer, the unassuming frontage appears. There is very limited parking on the street but they do have a small car park to the rear. When you enter you will find a quaint wee hotel, with modest decoration. The ground floor is made up of the bar and the main dining room with rooms on the first and second floor. Although modest the rooms are comfortable and represent very good value for money. The food is well presented and tasty which attracts a good local trade which is gives a bit of an indication. I have eaten here a number of times both in the bar and in the main restaurant and can say I have only had very good meals.

Harbour fishing is popular at the Port, and there is a footpath, Garnets Way, starting near the old Corn Mill.
