We loved this unique and fun little place, with all the old pictures on the wall. It's set up like an old country store with seating on the front porch, and inside as well. If you navigate from the Visitor's Center, it is conveniently located like 5 minutes away. Parking is very limited, but like others have said, if you wait a few minutes, someone will leave. We ate inside because I wanted to look at all the pictures and stuff on the walls. Stormy was an amazing server. She attended to our every need, and helped us with directions to where we were going. We both had the brisket sandwich, and I can't say enough about this brisket. Perfectly smoked, moist on the inside, and the PERFECT amount of crisp char on the outside to give it a little crunch. It's topped in battered onions. My hubby had a side of the Mac and cheese with his, and I was jealous that I didn't get any. It looked perfectly gooey and incredibly cheesy! I absolutely love this place! There are so many neat WV things to find, the food is delicious, and the service is impeccable. My fiancé and his coworkers go out to eat there almost every Saturday morning for breakfast and they always have a great time and he says their breakfast is delicious. We love that we're 5 minutes away from here this vacation! Let's start with the pepperoni rolls, just WOW! Seriously they're amazing, the sweet bread, delicious mild pepperoni and the creamy cheese is a match made in Almost Heaven! We also got snuck the brisket sandwich by the sweet staff member on a Monday bc they had left over from Sunday and she just knew we would miss it if we didn't get a chance to try! We appreciate her so much for that, it was truly awesome; juicy, sweet land savory, and pull apart fantastic on some brioche buns with cheese and its signature sauce!!! We also had their hotdogs, and I tell you, coming from Western PA... I'll be putting coleslaw on my hotdogs from today and on! What a great find. After spending the morning hiking the park we decided we needed to try a WV hot dog. Found this cool place on yelp as having the best hot dog. A sign out front announced the hot dog special. Two dogs with mustard, slaw, chili, and onions. Also included chips and drink. Our order arrived fairly quickly. The dogs were really good. We ate on the front porch on a nice fall day. The place is a small store that serves good food. Glad we stopped. read more

The smiling service begins when you cross the threshold. Kind and thoughtful people abound here, ownership must have it down pat! The food was home cooked and like grandma's. Breakfast plates are super good, baked goods were great and the biscuits and gravy were outstanding. It's a homey "buy local" welcoming place that is also priced very reasonably. We visited for lunch while exploring the New River Gorge area while on vacation. This little restaurant is located inside a general store, though to me it reminds me more of a combination souvenir shop/ranger station! Lol. It's cute inside and they do have some basic dry goods, snacks, and refrigerated beverages. The souvenir / gift selection is quite cute, especially if you like kinda funky/quirky critters and phrases. It took some willpower on my part to not buy anything extra! Parking is a little limited and backing up onto the main road is a little nerve wracking but we ultimately didn't have any troubles. The store has a super nice patio where we sat to eat. It's well-covered, as a rainstorm blew in but we still stayed dry! Both my parents and husband both ordered the special of the day: two West Virginia style hot dogs and chips. A WV hot dog comes with chili, slaw, mustard, and onions. I love regional variations on food! This one didn't disappoint; although my mom was at first reticent to try the chili/slaw combo, even she wound up loving it! Great quality dog as well. I ordered a burger with crinkle cut fries for myself. The burger was very large and I liked the bun it was served on. It had a chargrilled flavor which isn't my absolute favorite but I still enjoyed it overall. The fries were pretty standard. I wanted a sweet tea to drink but I didn't like theirs on first sip -- too much lemon. I dumped it out and got a Coke instead. Overall, pretty solid food! The service was very pleasant at the walk-up counter and even entertained my extra-chatty and curious dad, lol. Hubs and I got two pepperoni rolls to go for a snack for later since we didn't want to leave WV without trying one. The yeast roll was delicious and the pepperoni was slightly spicy and very savory. We have traveled through New River Gorge so many times and never made the stop, but this trip was different. (More to come) But after quick research we came across Swiftwater General Store. The reviews were great, but truly they don't begin to show how amazing it is. It truly is like a modern day general store. Simple but amazing. When we walked in the general manager greeted us with the biggest smile. He suggested the brisket sandwich that was smoked for 18 hours. It was DELISH!!! We got a couple hot dogs, fries, pasta salad, and these incredible cookies from this wonderful place. We have made so many stops, but this one had my heart. It's what restaurants should be. Food done well and the staff that are just good people. He didn't mind our crazy and the kids steam rolling on it. He made us feel like we were at home and it was one of the best meals we have had out in ages. Those cookies just made the last leg of the trip the best! Cool little place just off 19 to grab a meal, some basic supplies for your outdoor adventures, or souvenirs. Seating inside is limited, but you can eat outside or take your food to go. Prices are reasonable, and the wait was not long, although we were admittedly the only customers in the store. Do not overlook this place! We grabbed 2 meals from here and they were both incredible. The biscuits and gravy and potatoes were delicious. They have a brisket special on Sunday and it was without any doubt the most tender, flavorful brisket we've ever had. This place is great. If you are staying at adventures on the gorge and need some necessities, drinks or food, stop in. We came here for the breakfast. From the outside, you wouldn't really know they served a great breakfast. We had the breakfast burrito, two pancake platters and a biscuits and gravy. We couldn't eat it all. Everything was great and the prices were great also. They had 3 different coffees brewed also which were good. The staff is super friendly. Also, the place is super clean.
