Big fans of this place! It worked well for us. My 7 year old did well and my 5 year old did fine enough to pass the guaranteed level in 9 sessions (starting from scratch with no swimming experience) I've seen a few reviews that say the coaches are too tough - this may not work well for everyone but it certainly worked well for my kids. They were squealing with excitement every time we would pull up to Swimming Fishies. The upbeat atmosphere gets the kids excited. My kids particularly loved Coach Gavin and Coach Addy. The owner Danielle seems to genuinely care about her students and their safety around water. You can tell she is very passionate about what she does. In this modern culture where everyone gets a participation trophy and the kids seem to be the ones running the show, I really appreciated a place where the teacher is in charge and the student needs to listen and follow instructions. We did not have a good experience with swimming fishies. We had been to 1 swim school before and 2 since, and this one was by far the worst. It is all gimmicks and marketing. For 1 lesson they talked to her about scooping her hands for ice cream and tying a band around her legs and by the next lesson they thought it was time to throw her in and let her go at it. They claimed she was "swimming"....she was struggling, floundering with no technique, and gasping for air when she would come up. That is how they promise their kids learn to swim faster, their standard for "swimming" is actually nearly drowning to anyone else watching. The coaches were young, inexperienced, and would give attitude to the kids if they lost their patience with them. We signed up as soon as they opened and even then I never saw the owner in the water doing classes or training her coaches. My 4 year old daughter hated coming and would cry and plead that I never send her back. (I would too if I was drowing multiple times in class every week). It became too much for her to handle and too uncomfortable for me to sit by and watch so I notified the owner that I was giving my notice to cancel classes. She didn't respond for weeks and then had the audacity to use the date she read the email as the date of notice cancellation. I let her know the date was wrong and she never responded. I disputed the charge and got threated by her husband to be sent to collections. I sent them their own policy (which I had luckily pre-saved since they tried changing it), copy of my original email, and the correct calculation of when I should have been charged until. Never heard back and they didn't even try to send me to collections because they were in the wrong. We have since found a different swim school that is amazing. They don't use gimmicky swim devices, they are kind but firm, my kids love going, and the owner is in the water all day every day. My daughter has learned more in 2 weeks at her new swim school then she did in months at swimming fishies. read more

Very disappointing experience. The lessons seemed to consist of 15 minutes of tears and frustration with little opportunity for children to take a break and regroup. Communication was also extremely difficult--emails went unanswered when we needed assistance. Be sure to carefully read all policies before enrolling. The makeup class and cancellation policies can be very restrictive, and we felt they were applied in ways that were not customer-friendly. Overall, the experience was stressful, and getting out of the program became more of a headache than expected. I would not recommend spending your time or money here. read more

Oh swimming fishes! I so would like to give a 5 star review but sadly I can't. So here are my pros/cons of the program for parents to be fully informed & prepared. Pro: they got my son swimming! It's a clean facility. And that's all I've got! Cons: Pricing & packages are not clear online & websites difficult to navigate. 1st visit started almost 30 min late. Last visit the instructor was too busy checking her watch every 5 min to be teaching my child. And lastly KNOW YOUR CONTRACT!! I was very clear I only needed lessons till the end of May but somehow ended up in a reoccurring payment plan that charged for June. So I paid over $1200 for the 6 lessons my son actually attended but he can swim so yea! The owner, Danielle, is very nice & came highly recommended but needs to slow down just a bit and listen to the client. I felt overwhelmed and confused with the amount of information given by her and frustrated by a website that is nearly impossible to navigate. Overall not sure I'd recommend or at least make SURE SURE you get everything in writing and understand what you are getting! This was a very costly mistake! read more

I initially hesitated to speak up, but after my experience with the owner, I want to warn others about these expensive swim lessons. My 5-year-old daughter and I had a very negative experience. If my mom hadn't prepaid for the lessons as a gift, we wouldn't have returned after the first day, and definitely not after the second lesson. The instructors are all teens trained by the owner, which would be fine if they were competent. Two particular female instructors ignored my daughter's cries, carelessly tossed her around, and dismissed her distress. She was excited for these classes but became traumatized and reluctant to return. I had to insist on switching instructors, but even then, I had to constantly remind them not to assign those two girls to my daughter. Multiple private classes occur simultaneously in the pool, and I noticed a smaller girl who seemed to be suffering even more. Her mother didn't watch the lessons, possibly at the request of the staff. I secretly recorded some of the sessions because the treatment looked like borderline child abuse. Reviews suggest others have had similar experiences, with the instructors using fear to push kids into survival mode. They claim a 99% success rate after nine half-hour classes, which I find hard to believe. My daughter still can't swim and learned very little, certainly not worth the $90 per class. Additionally, I had an issue with a towel purchase. I bought a $20 towel robe with a $50 bill but didn't receive my $30 change. Despite multiple reminders, the owner, Danielle, failed to provide the change, suggesting I remind her later or use it for ice cream. Even after buying ice cream, I was still owed $26. When I texted her about it, she was annoyed and unhelpful, ultimately refusing to return my money and making me feel like I was at fault. If you don't mind a business with poor integrity and traumatizing swim lessons, this place might be for you. But if you want your child to learn to swim in a supportive environment, save your money and go elsewhere. read more

Swimming Fishies is the best swim school around! Truth bomb...our daughter at 2.5 did not do great!! We did 9 lessons and she didn't know how to swim after. Was I bummed, yes but Danielle did tell me this could be possible at her age. We still had a great summer and her confidence around the water was great. She learned how to hold her breath, blow bubbles, kick, etc. This year she is 3.5 and WOW what a world of difference!! Her first 3 lessons were still HARD and anxiety driven for both her and us as parents but lessons 4-9 were a complete 180. She can swim across the pool, float and has all the confidence in the world! She is now a mermaid and wants to go to swim lessons and practice at home! To all you 2 year old parents please hang in there. Trust the process. Age 3 is where it's at but doing them at 2 was still valuable. We are beyond grateful to Swimming Fishies, Danielle and her team for working with our girl and making her into the mermaid she now is! read more

We had a pretty negative experience with this school. Organization, accountability, and social awareness specifically with management significantly lacks. We did 3 months of semi-privates twice a week and there seemed to be a complete disconnect/path of any type of forward progression. We finally addressed it and they decided to do an on the spot test to move to the next level.... And of course he had been ready for weeks! We have decided to forgo the remaining portion of our month because of such a negative experience. read more

We can't recommend Coach Danielle and her team enough! Danielle's tender-tough touch while working with our Grandson Sammy (3yrs) was an awesome approach that worked wonders, he went from being afraid of being under water, and in fact being in the water without his "floaties" to happily going under water to "dive" for toys on the bottom of the pool, all while learning how to float, swim to the side, breathe above the water, blow out while under water and so much more. But more importantly, she gave him confidence in and out of the water! Maddie also does an amazing job with her thorough attention to details and ability to convey what she is trying to teach. Our Granddaughter Taylor (5yrs) is now not only floating on her back without help she has also learned how to swim freestyle and continue to breathe while doing so. Taylor has lost all fear of the water and it is all we can do to keep her out of the pool as she absolutely loves being in the water. There are moments of "tough love" as with any good coach, but if you are looking for RESULTS, then this is where you need to take your child/children. read more

Just don't. This place is expensive and claims to give private lessons with an experienced instructor - the only instructor advertised on the website. Teenagers teach the lessons. There are multiple lessons going on simultaneously, several lessons with kids that scream through the entire lesson. If your kid isn't screaming then the school owner doesn't have time to talk to you because she is busy consoling the other parents. On top of that, as soon as your kid comes to the pool they tie their legs together with an exercise band before even seeing if the kid can swim, that could be one of the reasons kids were screaming. read more

My son was 6 when he came here & he still could not swim by the end of it. I didn't say anything @ the time bcos I wasn't impressed afterwards so didn't want him to go back there. The girl who taught him was kind but she was really young. She could be anyone, teaching kids to swim. Not the owner; I never met her. Their test at the end is to see if your kid can swim across the pool. Yep my son did that, whilst swallowing a whole bunch of water to get there. You can get secondary drowning from that. I wasn't aware this was happening until he hurled on the way home from the last swimming lesson/test. He felt so much pressure to swim he never admitted to swallowing water until I finally suspected it. To be clear: he wasn't feeling pressured by the teacher or myself. I had told him that he would be able to swim by the end ( per their claims) & so he might have felt like he was a failure or something if he didn't? I wonder how many other kids have done this. Surely they can tell when a kid is swallowing water or breathing properly. Seems they didn't spend enough time on the basics, first. Writing this review 4 years later as I'm now looking for a swim teacher for my daughter & stumbled across this place again. Needless to say, I certainly won't be going here. In my opinion, the whole guarantee thing needs to be abolished and more expert teachers brought in. read more

Am I able to give more than 5 stars?? Because this company definitely deserves it!!!! My daughter went through her second year with Coach Danielle for her refresher and WOW. Everything that my daughter learned the previous year snapped back into place and Coach sharpened up those techniques AND taught her how to save herself from the drowning position. I had tears seeing my daughter learn how to save herself in such a terrifying position for any parent. That right there makes it worth every cent and I will ALWAYS have Coach Danielle to thank for that security. She tells it how it is because she CARES and will not settle for less. As a mama I have been so grateful to find this swim school. Last summer I was desperate to make sure my 3 year old was safe around water. She did the 9 days of lessons, worked HARD, and was swimming + water safe by the end This year we came back and did the 3 day punch pass to get her refreshed and remembering her skills... Once again the coaches trained her HARD and today she looks like a swim team pro at age 4 This swim school is so unique and such a gem!! We had the absolute best experience with Coach Danielle! Our two year old son learned so much in just a few short weeks. She made swimming fun which makes for a great learning environment. He quickly learned the breathing techniques, how to float on his back, and kick his legs. By the end of the course, he was able to grab on to the wall and pull himself up. We did a 3 week spring program with her and her coaching is legit, my son really did swim across the pool and learn to flip and float on his back by the end of just 9 lessons. He had some bad days where he cried a little but I just took a short walk and he was back to being focused. Our 7 year old son has always been deathly afraid of water. Even washing his hair in the bath was a struggle. We came to Coach Danielle in desperation, hoping that she would at least give him basics in case he ever fell in the pool. YOU GUYS...MY KID IS SWIMMING LIKE A FREAKING FISH NOW. I can't say enough about Coach Danielle. My daughter is high anxiety and high fear, and very stubborn. We couldn't even wash her hair without her being terrified water would get in her eyes. So I was very apprehensive with swim lessons. Coach Danielle reassured me over and over that she would be fine. I was absolutely stunned that she swam to the side of the pool at the beginning of the second lesson!! And she could fully swim by the end of the lessons. She went from high fear of the water to jumping in off rock structures at pools and swimming to the wall. Also, my daughter LOVED Coach. Coach Danielle is AMAZING! She has great coaching technique that it tailored to children. She used analogies that they understand and it helps them tremendously. She and her assistant Daisy are lots of fun and make the classes so enjoyable and my kids connected with them immediately. I loved their encouraging, but firm spirits. Before we moved from Seattle we knew we wanted our daughter to learn how to swim, so I started researching good swimming coaches in the area. Coach Danielle Swimming Fishes came up first in the list with the best reviews. When we moved I looked her up and got up early one day in January or early February to sign up for summer classes. June and July classes were sold out in 10 minutes, I kid you not. I was lucky to get evening classes (we wanted 5:30pm) in the beginning of August. It was worth the wait though. When I ask coach Danielle if I need to buy any floating devices for our daughter's class she replied "no, I am teaching your kid how to swim, no floaties") and it was true. We came for the first lesson and that day coach Danielle helped her overcome her fear of water (a new purse we got as a surprise for her, helped, so, highly recommend a prize for the first lesson) but after that first class, the following lessons by themselves were a reward for our daughter. She wanted to go to each class, she was so excited. After a week coach Danielle jumped with our daughter off the board and since then, there were no more fears, our daughter was diving for toys, she wanted to jump into the water, she learned how to get out of the water to breath, she was floating, she was grabbing the wall of the pool and was getting out of the water. Coach Danielle was also teaching us, as parents on how to practice swimming with our daughter, giving us tips and helpful ideas. Now we will take it from here and, knowing the right way, will continue coaching our daughter to be "the best swimmer ever" because "she can do it"! (those are the motivational, positive phrases we picked up from coach Danielle during our classes). Needless to say, after watching our daughter not being afraid and conquering her fear of water, I decided to sign up with coach Danielle to learn how to swim as well. Today, I swam across the pool 3 times, at my 3rd lesson.
