The Swiss Senator Lounge in Zurich is a great space in which to unwind before a flight. Unlike the dingy lounge in Geneva, the Zurich lounge near the A gates is spacious, with 3 floors (top floor is the smokers lounge) and a great variety of configurations for both work and relaxation. The food in the lounge (for breakfast) was adequate for me...as they had muesli, breakfast meats and hard boiled eggs (which were easy to peel) They also had a nice variety of breads and cereals. For anyone looking to jump into sweets, they offered ice cream, candy and pastries. On the beverage front, the sky was the limit with wines, beer and of course the standard non-alcoholic fare. Wifi is free for 24 hours, one just needs to register. The staff are friendly and helpful...one just needs to make a request and it's promptly addressed. Overall, a great experience and nice place to chill before a flight

    Busy lounge at midday!

On the second floor, past the piano or guitar player, same door as the business class lounge. Business class ticket will get you into either, but I asked if I could go into the Senator Lounge (I can never remember the requirements!). When I mentioned I had United 1K, she asked to see my card. I remember traveling with colleagues and the staff at other airports requiring to see a physical card - I was really happy that the staff at ZRH accepted my United MileagePlus app, with 1K status listed. Wireless is available, they'll print you a voucher for 24 hours, so you don't have to text and get a code. When you enter the lounge, immediately take stairs up, which I found a bit odd (half a floor with no obvious elevator). There's another level with wide windows (overlooking the runway maybe? I didn't haul my little carryon up the stairs just to check it out). Its another staircase up. The bathrooms are small, women's had two stalls (each a closed room), and very poorly ventilated - layering strong perfume over the smell of crap, I got out of there as soon as possible. Its a bit strange that near the food area you can look into the business lounge, it lets in light, but feels like a bit of a cage. Lunch food came out at 11am, sandwiches with cold cuts, gnocchi with tomato and corn, paella, and two soups (potato and leek and beef with semolina). I tried the soups. The bowls barely hold a ladleful. The potato and leek was a little watery and could have been warmer. The beef broth with semolina was too much tiny semolina and greasy. Not gourmet, but filled the belly. The lounge is small, and felt cramped by 11:30am.

Very cheap champagne. The first class experience is very average with respect to other airlines .

The seats were comfortable, and there was plenty of seating. There's an outdoor terrace that overlooks the runway. I know what you're thinking. Nope, there's no smoking allowed on the terrace. I thought that was great. The breakfast was limited. I can only describe it as adequate. It was very basic in terms of taste. The chicken sausage was good. The eggs had a film of water mixed with egg at the bottom of the pan. Nothing really looked great, and nothing was truly warm. The coffee machine was broken. No one seemed happy about that. I guess we hit it on a bad day. There is a soft drink station with 2 liter bottles and a tiny bucket of ice cubes. Needless to say, the 3 ice cubes melted right away. Lol! However, it did cool off the Coke Zero. I'll give it that. I felt like I was in a different time dimension (England in the 1980s). It's what you'd expect from a pub, but not a premium lounge. Yep, Primeclass needs some work. Other than that, I found the Zurich Airport to be quite efficient. It's the lounge that needs to step it up to make it an even better experience. Go there to get away from the hustle & bustle of the terminal, but don't expect much in the way of food.

Checked back home already in case this happens and looked for an interesting Lounge. The Aspire Lounge looked the most interesting to us. So we headed there and paid the fee (we flew Economy). 48CHF per person was a fair deal. The Lounge has a nice size, not too big, not too small. And has a deck outside with great views over the airport and the airstrip. You can see some from inside as well. Staff was very friendly to us and entering the Lounge was a quick affair. Be aware that it depends how full and busy it is. You might be sent away as a walk-in in case the place is full. Which is understandable. There is a good number of magazins and newspapers, TV and free WiFi. But of course most come for the unlimited food and drinks. There were hot and cold dishes. Cheese and meat. Pasta and more. Some cakes and sweets. Snacks. Also different kind of bread, croissants. There was some liquor. White and Red Wine. Also good Prosecco. Beer, soda and water of course. Yes, we were in some Lounges with a bigger selection. But we just came to enjoy a bit of food and drink, to rest and relax a bit. And for that it was a fair deal offered here. We had a good time. And surely we'll be back again.

If this is a Swiss breakfast then color me surprised. The cool gazpacho and the hot beef stock soup were both excellent alternatives. But otherwise, the biz class lounge must have over a hundred people inside right now and you can hear a pin drop, that's how calm, quiet and civilized it is here. Take heed, American airports: no one will miss it if you turn off the blaring televisions set to CNN and treat the lounge experience like the Swiss do, once they step up their breakfast game.

However, for subsequent customers, it still looks disgusting to have all the trash and crumbs around on the floor. PREVIOUS REVIEW1 The lounge in Terminal A was great start of the day before departing for Corfu. Clean, spacious, and offering an excellent variety of superfresh and delicious food options. The only downside: Seems like Hinz und Kunz have access these days, and the lounge was excessively crowded and less the stylish oasis of quietness. Apart from Wi-Fi, there is a wide selection of newspapers and journals as print copies or downloads.
